Publication number: 20170324208Abstract: Embodiments reduce crosstalk between electrical interconnects by offsetting pairs of electrical interconnects in an electrical system to produce a staggered interconnect pattern for which magnetic flux through a loop formed by a victim interconnect pair is effectively canceled. Magnetic field vectors generated by an aggressor pair of interconnects can pass through a loop-bounded surface defined by a victim pair of interconnects in the system. In the staggered interconnect pattern, the victim interconnect pair is offset with respect to the aggressor interconnect pair so that the field vectors passing through the victim pair's loop-bounded surface in one direction are substantially balanced by the field vectors passing through the victim pair's loop-bounded surface in the opposite direction, thereby minimizing the effect of the aggressor pair's magnetic field on the victim pair. Since crosstalk is proportional to the rate of change of the magnetic flux, reducing the magnetic flux can reduce the crosstalk.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2017Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventor: DARKO R. This optical source includes a semiconductor optical amplifier (with a semiconductor other than silicon) that provides an optical gain medium and that includes a reflector. Moreover the hybrid external cavity laser includes a photonic chip with: an optical waveguide that conveys an optical signal output by the semiconductor optical amplifier; and a ring resonator, having a resonance wavelength, which reflects at least a resonance wavelength in the optical signal, where the reflector and the ring resonator define an optical cavity. Furthermore, the photonic chip includes: a thermal-tuning mechanism that adjusts the resonance wavelength; a photo-detector that measures an optical power output by the ring resonator; and control logic that adjusts the temperature of the ring resonator based on the measured optical power to lock a cavity mode of the optical cavity to a carrier wavelength.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2015Publication date: November 9, 2017Applicant: ORACLE INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONInventors: Ashok V. Publication number: 20170324220Abstract: For epitaxial-side-down bonding of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), it is important to optimize the heat transfer between the QCL chip and the heat sink to which the chip is mounted. This is achieved by using a heatsink with high thermal conductivity and by minimizing the thermal resistance between the laser active region and said heatsink. In the epi-down configuration concerned, the active region of the QCL is located only a few micrometers away from the heatsink, which is preferable from a thermal standpoint. However, this design is challenging to implement and often results in a low fabrication yield if no special precautions are taken. Since the active region is very close to the heatsink, solder material may ooze out on the sides of the chip during the bonding process and may short-circuits the device, rendering it unusable. To avoid this happening, the invention proposes to provide a trench all around the chip with the exception of the two waveguide facets, i.e. the ends of the active region.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2014Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Richard MAULINI, Alfred BISMUTO, Tobias GRESCH, Antoine MÜLLER

Publication number: 20170324222Abstract: An ignition plug 10 comprises an elongate cylindrical body 12 of an electrically insulating material having a first end 12.1, a second end 12.2 opposite to the first end and a first face 14 at the first end. A first elongate electrode 16 having a first end 16.1 and a second end 16.2 extends longitudinally in the body. The first electrode terminates at the first end thereof a first distance d1 from the first end of the body in a direction towards the second end of the body. The body hence defines a blind bore 18 extending between the first end of the first electrode and the first end of the body. A second electrode is provided on an outer surface of the body and terminates at one of a) flush with the first face 14 of the body and b) a second distance d2 from the first end of the body in a direction towards the second end of the bod.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2015Publication date: November 9, 2017Inventors: Petrus Paulus KRÜGER, Barend VISSER
