  • Patent number: 9937548
Abstract: A joint is produced in at least two overlapping workpieces using a joining tool including a punch reciprocally disposed in a cylinder. The workpieces are disposed between the tool and a die. The tool applies a compressive force to deform the workpieces into a joint at a joining area between the tool and die. Continuous ultrasonic energy is applied to at least one of the workpieces in the joining area for at least part of the time during production of the joint to increase the ductility of at least one of the workpieces in the joining area. This induces an acousto-plastic effect in the material being formed which temporarily reduces its strength so as to exhibit increased ductility. The joining method may be used in self-piercing riveting and clinching techniques and enables viable joints to be formed in high strength materials or thick sheets of material.

  • Patent number: 9937551
Abstract: Disclosed is an emulsion formed using, as an emulsifier, 0.01 to 30 parts by weight of a perfluoroalkylethyl phosphonic acid salt represented by the general formula: CnF2n+1CH2CH2P(O)(OM1)(OM2) [III] (M1: a hydrogen atom, ammonium salt, or organic amine salt, M2: an ammonium salt or organic amine salt, n: 1 to 6), based on 100 parts by weight of a perfluoropolyether oil represented by the general formula: RfO(C3F6O)p(C2F4O), (CF2O), Rf? [I] (Rf and Rf?: C1-C5 perfluoroalkyl groups, p+q+r: 2 to 200) or the general formula: F(CF2CF2CF2O)nCF2CF3 [II](n: 2 to 100), or a perfluorocarbon compound. In spite of using, as an emulsifier, a compound having a perfluoroalkyl group containing 6 or less carbon atoms, which is said to have low bioaccumulation potential, the emulsion exhibits excellent emulsification stability, and therefore can be effectively used as a surface-treating agent, such as a mold-releasing agent.

  • Patent number: 9937552
Abstract: A cylindrical drum is driven for rotation about its axis by a drive mechanism. A braking mechanism selectively applies braking forces to the drum to impede or brake its rotational movement. A first movement sensor senses movement of the drive mechanism while a second movement sensor senses movement of the drum. An electronic comparator circuit compares these sensed movements and generates a control signal when the drive mechanism movement and drum movement are not in synchronism. In response to such loss of synchronism, a control mechanism causes the braking mechanism to apply braking forces.

  • Patent number: 9937588
Abstract: A friction stir welding method which permits advantageous production of a product which has a sound welded area without joint defects, by joining together two members formed of the same material or respective different materials selected from a cast aluminum alloy and 2000 series, 4000 series, 5000 series and 7000 series aluminum alloys which are considered difficult to be joined together by the friction stir welding method. An initiation tab member formed of a 1000 series, 3000 series, 6000 series or 8000 series aluminum alloy is disposed in abutting contact with end faces of joining portions of first and second members (in an abutting part), on the side of initiation of the welding operation, and the friction stir welding operation is performed by moving a probe of a rotary tool through the initiation tab member into the joining portions of the two members.
