In one example application, the internal unit would be implanted either subcutaneously or otherwise within the body of a subject. The internal unit contains optoelectronics circuitry, a component of which may be comprised of a fluorescence sensing device. Abstract: The present disclosure discusses systems and methods for identifying biomarkers that can help with the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment choices of patients with neurodegenerative diseases. Diffusion based magnetic resonance imaging can often fail for patients with a neurodegenerative disease because parameters fractional anisotropy, mean diffusivity, and radial diffusivity are based on simple models that can fail in the presence of neurodegeneration, such as demyelination. The present disclosure discusses systems and methods that enhance dMRI images and enable tractography to be performed on images of a damaged nervous system. The damaged tracks identified by the present system can be used as a biomarker for the assessment of patients. In some implementations, the biomarkers are converted into clinical scales that can be used to compare patients to one another or over time.

Abstract: A system for superimposing virtual anatomical landmarks on an image includes a medical positioning system (MPS) for producing location readings with respect to points within a region of interest in accordance with an output of a location sensor disposed in a medical device. A coordinate system of the MPS is registered with an image coordinate system. A control unit receives a signal from a user to record a location reading when the medical device is at a desired point in the region of interest where the user desires to place a virtual landmark, modifies the recorded location reading for motion compensation, transforms the motion-compensated location reading from the MPS coordinate system to the image coordinate system to produce a target location, and then superimposes a representation of the virtual landmark on the image at the target location.

Abstract: A system and method for collecting operation data associated with a medical apparatus including an internal device implanted in a subject and an external device that is magnetically-coupled to and drives the internal device. The medical apparatus may be monitored to obtain raw data associated with the operation of the medical apparatus and one or more calculations may be performed on the raw data, wherein the raw data and/or calculated values may be associated with voiding frequency and voiding volume of the subject. A report may be generated from the raw data and/or calculated values. In addition, one or more signals may be sent to the external device and/or a docking station, or communicated by other means, to indicate to the subject that the operation of the medical apparatus should be altered.

Abstract: Aspects of gait matching are described herein. In one embodiment, a method of gait matching includes identifying a gait cycle timing in a data sequence captured by an inertial sensor, splitting the data sequence into a gait cycle segment, resampling the gait cycle segment, and estimating a rotation matrix for the resampled gait cycle segment. The rotation matrix, in one embodiment, can be estimated by minimizing a root mean squared deviation between the resampled gait cycle segment and a reference gait cycle segment. The method further includes calculating an aligned gait cycle segment from the resampled gait cycle segment using the rotation matrix, and generating a similarity measure between the aligned gait cycle segment and the reference gait cycle segment.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to the parenteral procurement of bodily-fluid samples. The present invention is also directed to systems and methods for parenterally procuring bodily-fluid samples with reduced contamination from dermally-residing microbes. In some embodiments, a bodily-fluid withdrawing system is used to withdraw bodily fluid from a patient for incubation in culture media in one or more sample vessels. Prior to withdrawing bodily fluid into the one or more sample vessels for incubation, an initial volume of withdrawn bodily fluid is placed in one or more pre-sample reservoirs and is not used for the incubation in culture media.

Abstract: Many electrodes are positioned inside a skull for obtaining several electric voltage variation wave information. A processing unit computes subtract operation between two neighboring electrical voltage variation wave information respectively and then can obtain electrical voltage difference waves. Furthermore, each electrical voltage difference wave is separated into a first band wave signal and a second band wave signal. After which, several first band wave envelope signals and second band wave envelope signals are obtained. It conducts a co-relation processing about the first band wave envelope signals and the second band wave envelope signals. So, a co-relation table is obtained for determining a position where an intracranial brain wave abnormality occurs. In this invention, a unique scientific approach to determine the spatial position of seizure onset occurred inside the brain. In addition, the position of intracranial brain wave abnormality can be concretized and visualized by the co-relation table.
