Abstract: Methods and systems for providing depth-resolved real-time visual feedback to a physician during cosmetic dermal filler injections with micrometer spatial resolution utilizing a noninvasive optical coherence tomography/elastography, 2D-3D virtual and real time system. This system can be automated to direct proper volumes and viscosity of the necessary injection substances. The methods and systems allow for assessment of the elasticity of the tissue before and after the injection to evaluate the efficacy of the injection, with predetermined virtual results before and matched post injection images. The elasticity assessment method preferably utilizes a focused air-pulse to induce a micrometer scale displacement in the skin and the optical coherence tomography system to image this displacement. By utilizing a model-based reconstruction method, the viscoelasticity of the tissue at a specific measurement position can be obtained and virtual and post injection real time projections can be imaged.

Abstract: The invention provides a neck-worn sensor that is a single, body-worn system that measures the following parameters from an ambulatory patient: heart rate, pulse rate, pulse oximetry, respiratory rate, temperature, thoracic fluid levels, stroke volume, cardiac output, and a parameter sensitive to blood pressure called pulse transit time. From stroke volume, a first algorithm employing a linear model can estimate the patient's pulse pressure. And from pulse pressure and pulse transit time, a second algorithm, also employing a linear algorithm, can estimate systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. Thus, the sensor can measure all five vital signs along with hemodynamic parameters. It also includes a motion-detecting accelerometer, from which it can determine motion-related parameters such as posture, degree of motion, activity level, respiratory-induced heaving of the chest, and falls.

Abstract: Drowsiness onset detection implementations are presented that predict when a person transitions from a state of wakefulness to a state of drowsiness based on heart rate information. Appropriate action is then taken to stimulate the person to a state of wakefulness or notify other people of their state (with respect to drowsiness/alertness). This generally involves capturing a person's heart rate information over time using one or more heart rate (HR) sensors and then computing a heart-rate variability (HRV) signal from the captured heart rate information. The HRV signal is analyzed to extract features that are indicative of an individual's transition from a wakeful state to a drowsy state. The extracted features are input into an artificial neural net (ANN) that has been trained using the same features to identify when an individual makes the aforementioned transition to drowsiness. Whenever an onset of drowsiness is detected, a warning is initiated.

Abstract: Many medical procedures involve the implantation of an element in a vascular body. Current imaging techniques allow the positioning of such expandable elements to be checked, before and after implantation, using contrast bursts into the blood from a pigtail catheter. When the implantation of the medical device needs to be performed quickly, the pigtail catheter is pulled back briskly. This process is prone to error, because at the point of implantation, a medical professional has many other factors to consider, as well as the withdrawal of the catheter. If an implantable device traps the pigtail catheter during or after expansion, undesirable results can occur, such as having to pull sharply on the catheter to remove it, and in the process, disrupting the newly implanted device. This application discusses a technique for automatically generating a region of implantation around a medical device prior to and during implantation.

Abstract: An intra-oral dental radiological image sensor is mechanically reinforced by two front RA and rear RB mechanical reinforcing plates each inserted between a respective face of an image capture module and a respective front 20A and rear 20B shell bottom of a casing. The front reinforcing plate is a solid plate, made of material transparent to X rays, covering the photosensitive front face (scintillator) of the module, and harder than the front shell. The rear plate, less thick than the front plate, is harder than the rear shell and comprises an opening O provided to surround, without covering them, components present on the rear face of the module, under a rear shell dome.

Abstract: A housing of an electronic cassette has an inclined surface which is formed between a side surface and a rear surface thereof and inclined relative to the side surface and the rear surface. An antenna opening through which a radio wave is transmitted is formed on the inclined surface. Since the antenna opening is formed on the inclined surface, the antenna opening is not blocked by a rear plate of a holder of an upright radiographic stand or a supine radiographic stand, and the antenna opening is not blocked by a side panel of an outer grid. Both in the case where the electronic cassette is set to the holder and in the case where the outer grid is attached to the electronic cassette, it is possible to perform stable wireless communication.
