Abstract: An absorber for an absorption refrigeration system for a vertically mounted plate absorber has fins positioned over the plate to promote distribution of a fluid under flow as a nearly continuous thin film. The absorber has rows of fins that are evenly spaced with the fins occupying a portion of the active width of the plate with adjacent rows offset by the width of the plate. A combined evaporator-absorber module is constructed with the absorbing face of the absorber parallel with an evaporating surface of an evaporator where absorber solution and refrigerant fall as parallel falling sheets of liquid. The absorber is covered with a porous hydrophobic membrane to isolate the falling absorber solution from the falling liquid refrigerant.

Abstract: A system includes a heat exchanger coupled to an air conditioning system, and a flash tank is coupled to refrigeration cases, and houses a first refrigerant. The system includes solenoid valves coupled to the flash tank, where the solenoid valves reduce a pressure of the first refrigerant flowing from the flash tank to the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger may be coupled to the solenoid valves, and the heat exchanger may be configured to receive an amount of the first refrigerant from the solenoid valves, receive a second refrigerant from the air conditioning system, where the second refrigerant is associated with an air conditioning load, and provide cooling to the second refrigerant, using the first refrigerant. Finally, the system includes a check valve coupled to the flash tank, where the check valve reduces a pressure of the first refrigerant flowing from the flash tank away from the solenoid valves.

Abstract: A refrigeration system for a temperature-controlled storage device includes a refrigeration circuit, a cooling circuit, and a controller. The refrigeration circuit includes a compressor driven by a brushless DC motor operable at multiple different speeds, a first heat exchanger, an expansion device, and a cooling unit in fluid communication via a first working fluid. The cooling circuit includes a pump and a second heat exchanger in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger via a second working fluid such that the first heat exchanger is liquid-cooled by the second working fluid. The controller operates the brushless DC motor at multiple different speeds to accommodate multiple different thermal loads experienced by the refrigeration system. Each of the speeds corresponds to a different thermal load. The controller modulates the speed of the brushless DC motor to maintain a desired temperature of a temperature-controlled space within the temperature-controlled device.
