  • Patent number: 10414021
Abstract: The present invention is objected to polish the surface of the object material with a high quality at a high polishing rate. The object surface is polished using a wet polishing method. Slurry is produced by scattering abrasive particles into pure water. In the abrasive particle, where components which has a mechanochemical effect and which reacts to the friction heat generated in polishing the object material are joined with each other and integrated to a particle. There, respective component is joined with each other using a mechanical alloying process, while maintaining the inherent material properties. When the slurry is used in a lapping process of sapphire, silicon carbide, gallium nitride and the like, the polishing process can be substantially shortened and the processing cost is drastically reduced. Further, it secures a high quality of the polishing surface. The abrasive particle can be used repeatedly in the polishing process.

Abstract: The present invention introduces a new concept of applying a parallel mechanism in automated fiber placement for aerospace part manufacturing. The proposed system requirements are 4DOF parallel mechanism consisting of two RPS and two UPS limbs with two rotational and two translational motions. Both inverse and forward kinematics models are obtained and solved analytically. Based on the overall Jacobian matrix in screw theory, singularity loci are presented and the singularity-free workspace is correspondingly illustrated. To maximize the singularity-free workspace, locations of the two UPS limbs with the platform and base sizes are used in the optimization which gives a new design of a 4DOF parallel mechanism. A dimensionless Jacobian matrix is also defined and its condition number is used for optimizing the kinematics performance in the optimization process. A numerical example is presented with physical constraint considerations of a test bed design for automated fiber placement.

Abstract: Systems and methods related to providing configurations of robotic devices are provided. A computing device can receive a configuration request for a robotic device including environmental information and task information for tasks requested to be performed by the robotic device in an environment. The computing device can determine task-associated regions in the environment. A task-associated region for a given task can include a region of the environment that the robotic device is expected to reach while performing the given task. Based at least on the task-associated regions, the computing device can determine respective dimensions of components of the robotic device and an arrangement for assembling the components into the robotic device so that the robotic device is configured to perform at least one task in the environment. The computing device can provide a configuration that includes the respectively determined dimensions and the determined arrangement.

Abstract: A safety sensor system and method is provided. The method includes projecting from a projector a pattern of light to a first position. The pattern of light being generated by a shape control element with each of the first pattern of light having a pattern pose. A first image is captured with a camera of the first pattern of light. The pose or shape of the pattern of light is changed using the shape control element. A pattern pose or shape information is determined from both images. It is determined that the second image is valid based on the pattern pose or shape information differing by more than predetermined measurement errors or the pattern pose or shape information differing less than predetermined measurement errors from values that are based on the control values transmitted to the pattern pose and shape control element.

  • Patent number: 10414049
Abstract: The present application is directed to a robotic system for maintaining product inventory and dispensing products upon request from a customer or other user. Product items are stored in an inventory storage unit (ISU), one item per bin. Controller logic allows items to be stored in, and retrieved from, arbitrarily-assigned storage locations. The bins hang on rails within drawers. Upon a request from a consumer (or other user) in a fulfillment operation, the robot retrieves a bin holding the first item from the ISU. Upon a request from an operator in a replenishment operation, the robot transfers an empty bin to an operator station (such as a replenishing unit). Upon a request from an operator in a purge operation, the robot transfers bins containing the affected items to the operator station. The controller logic further allows certain operations to be prioritized and performed for the replenishment and purge operations.

Abstract: A force feedback gripping device employs a mechanical gripper (23), an electromagnetic actuator (22) and a force feedback controller (21). The mechanical gripper (23) is operable to be actuated to one of a plurality of gripping poses for gripping an object. The electromagnetic actuator (22) includes a magnetorheological elastomer (“MRE”), wherein the MRE is operable to be transitioned between a plurality of shapes dependent upon a variable strength of a magnetic field applied to the MRE, and wherein each shape of the MRE actuates the mechanical gripper (23) to one of the gripping poses. The force feedback controller (21) is operable to control the variable strength of the magnetic field applied to the MRE based on an estimation of a gripping force of the mechanical gripper (23) and on a sensing of a load force of the object responsive to the gripping force of the mechanical gripper (23).
