Abstract: A method for modulating a valve regulating the flow rate of gas towards a burner is presented. The valve with the associated closure member configured to operate with a predetermined characteristic curve, the flow rate delivered being proportionally related to the strength of a first current signal sent to the modulator such that the flow rate can be modulated, using the proportionality, within a range of modulation between a maximum flow rate and a minimum flow rate. To deliver controlled gas flow rates that are below the minimum flow rate, the modulator is driven with a second PWM voltage signal capable of generating a particular second PWM current signal, to move the closure member of the valve according to the second signal. First and second time intervals correspond to successive durations of high signal and low signal, respectively, the sum being equal to a period of the second signal.

Abstract: A heat exchanger for exchanging heat between first and second duct portions of a ventilation system includes first and second heat pipe portions in the first and second duct portions, respectively. Each heat pipe portion can be a heat pipe subassembly including one or more vertical heat pipes fluidly coupled to top and bottom headers, which are respectively connected to the top and bottom headers of the other subassembly to form a refrigerant loop. One or more flow restrictors can block air flow through a respective section of the first or second duct portion. The blocked section can be operatively aligned with a segment of the respective heat pipe portion along which there is a low probability of refrigerant phase change. Each flow restrictor can be an adjustable damper. The damper(s) can be selectively opened and closed as the ventilation system switches between heating and cooling modes.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to a front grille and a motor vehicle hood assembly, as well as methods of installing the front grille to the hood assembly. The front grille includes a peripheral frame with left and right members and a plurality of fasteners extending rearward from the left member and the right member. The hood assembly includes medially extending tab members and insertion gaps arranged proximate to left and right sides of a front aperture defined in the hood assembly. Each tab member is separated from each other tab member by at least one of the insertion gaps. During mounting, the plurality of fasteners of the front grille are inserted into the insertion gaps, and the front grille is slid upward relative to the hood assembly, causing the fasteners to slidably engage the tab members. Sliding engagement of the fasteners reduces stress on the front grille from hood deflection.

Abstract: Provided are a superhigh temperature heat pump system and method capable of preparing boiling water not lower than 100° C., belonging to the technical field of heat pumps. The system comprises a compressor (1), primary and secondary evaporators (5, 6), an expansion mechanism (4), primary and secondary condenser/coolers (2, 3), water pumps (7, 8, 13), water tanks (9, 10), and a valve (14). The solution is based on the compressor exhaust heat enthalpy utilization minimum entropy gain principles/technology, and utilizes exhaust heat enthalpy sensible heat and latent heat in stages. The present invention has an output water temperature higher than 100° C., expands the functions of current heat pump water heaters which can only prepare hot water lower than 100° C., and can replace electric water heaters, save energy and increase energy utilization rates.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to multi-stage falling particle receivers and methods of falling particle heating. As the particles fall through the receiver, the particles are periodically collected and released by flow retarding devices. The periodic catch-and-release of the particles falling through the receiver reduces particle flow dispersion, increases particle opacity and solar absorption, and reduces erosion and damage to surfaces caused by direct particle impingement.

Abstract: A cryogenic refrigerator system with heaters is constructed in modular form to serve as a portable servicing system to warm up and then cool down a target object by circulating a gaseous cryogen through a target object cryostat without moving the target object or breaking its vacuum. The main module is a refrigerator cryostat containing a fan that circulates gas through one or more heat exchangers which can warm or cool the gas by heaters and by one or more GM or Brayton cycle expanders. Additional components including one or more compressors, a gas charge and vent assembly, a control system, gas lines, power lines, and vacuum jacketed transfer lines can be assembled in the main module or additional modules. An example is a system that can be wheeled through a hospital to service a MRI cryostat.
