Publication number: 20190317156Abstract: A battery management system (BMS) described herein determines the internal resistance for a cell that may have an internal short circuit. In one aspect, the BMS monitors the voltage across each of a plurality cells that are coupled in series. If the voltage across one of the cells differs from the voltages across the other cells, the BMS can flag the cell as potentially having an internal short circuit. Once flagged, the BMS can use a simulator that stores a model cell that has similar characteristics as the cells monitored by the BMS to determine the internal resistance of the flagged cell. In one aspect, the simulator changes the value of a surrogate resistor that is parallel with the model cell until the voltage across the model cell matches the voltage of the flagged cell. The value of the surrogate resistor indicates the internal resistance of the flagged cell.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2019Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Jimmy M. QUIAMBAO, James L. Publication number: 20190317159Abstract: A method of calibrating a network of magnetometers (C1, Ci) including the displacement of a magnet holder tool (10) above the network, and solving an optimisation problem to determine a localisation of the magnetometers in the network. This localisation minimises based on an optimisation criterion, the difference between a real attribute (D, m1, m2) of the magnet holder tool and an estimate of the attribute determined without knowledge of the displacement, starting from the localisation and measurements made by the magnetometers in the network during the displacement.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2019Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Franck Vial, Saifeddine Aloui

Publication number: 20190317160Abstract: The inventive concepts presented herein relate to methods of identifying molecules identification of molecules using apparatuses including: electromagnetic write-head(s); magneto-resistive read sensor(s), and processor(s). An exemplary method includes scanning one or more of a plurality of biosample tracks of a biosample substrate using an electromagnetic write-head to magnetically excite one or more molecules of interest using an alternating magnetic field. The one or more molecules of interest are disposed on one or more of the biosample tracks. A resonant response of the one or more molecules of interest is measured using a magneto-resistive sensor. The resonant response is compared to a table of known resonant responses to identify the one or more molecules of interest.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 28, 2019Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Allen K. Publication number: 20190317162Abstract: Transport apparatus pneumatically conveying NMR test samples (2) from or to an NMR spectrometer (1) through a tubular transport channel (3) includes a device (4) generating positive pressure in the end of the transport channel that is remote from the spectrometer. The transport channel has a tube system which has a gas-tight outer tube (5) having an outer diameter Da and an inner diameter da and an inner tube (6), arranged coaxially with respect to the outer tube, having an outer diameter Di<da and an inner diameter di. The inner diameter di of the inner tube is greater than or equal to the outer diameter DP of the test samples, and the inner tube includes mutually spaced cross-holes (7) designed as through-holes. This provides accurate current position determinations for the sample in the transport channel, and reduced risk of damaging the sample during transport.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2019Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Reto SCHMID, Sven SIEBER

Publication number: 20190317163Abstract: A metamaterial liner for an MRI bore. The metamaterial liner may cover only a portion of the MRI bore, allowing travelling wave excitations within the lined portion. By restricting the waves to the lined portion, improved signal to noise ratio may be provided. The lined length may be adjustable, for example by forming the metamaterial liner of removable annular segments. A method is provided of adjusting the length of the lined portion by removing metamaterial segments. The segments may be included in interchangeable modules. The MRI liner is suitable for any magnetic field strength, and in particular may provide improved signal to noise at reduced technical difficulty at magnetic field strengths between conventional field strengths suitable for a birdcage coil and conventional travelling wave field strengths.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2018Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Ashwin K.
