Publication number: 20200408861Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system are disclosed for improving uniformity of RF magnetic field in an MRI system, and thereby improving both signal-to-noise ratio and uniformity of imaging sensitivity across a sampling volume, to provide more uniform MRI images. A passive LC resonator develops induced EMF and induced currents in a primary RF magnetic field; the secondary magnetic field produced thereby can counteract magnetic field amplitude gradients to produce a more homogeneous RF magnetic field. In systems with separate transmit and receive coils, a shunt detuning circuit is pulsed ON to prevent interference during the transmit period. In a dual-frequency MRI machine (e.g. 19F and 1H), the RF magnetic field at the lower operating frequency can be homogenized by tuning the resonance of the passive resonator between the two operating frequencies. Another resonator can improve RF field uniformity at the higher operating frequency. Variants and experimental results are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2018Publication date: December 31, 2020Applicant: THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AS REPRESENTED BYTHE SECRETARY,DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICESInventors: Bu S. Publication number: 20200408863Abstract: A new method is developed for ultrafast, high-resolution magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) using learned spectral features. The method uses Free Induction Decay (FID) based ultrashort-TE and short-TR acquisition without any solvent suppression pulses to generate the desired spatiospectral encodings. The spectral features for the desired molecules are learned from specifically designed “training” data by taking into account the resonance structure of each compound generated by quantum mechanical simulations. A union-of-subspaces model that incorporates the learned spectral features is used to effectively separate the unsuppressed water/lipid signals, the metabolite signals, and the macromolecule signals. The unsuppressed water spectroscopic signals in the data can be used for various purposes, e.g., removing the need of additional auxiliary scans for calibration, and for generating high quality quantitative tissue susceptiability mapping etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2018Publication date: December 31, 2020Applicant: THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOISInventors: Zhi-Pei Liang, Fan Lam

Publication number: 20200408872Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein that relate to positioning in a cellular communications system. In some embodiments, a method for determining a three dimensional location of a wireless device in a cellular communications network comprises obtaining a plurality of measurements for a wireless device, where the plurality of measurements are Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) related measurements. The method further comprises computing a three dimensional position of the wireless device using the plurality of measurements and a vertical surface model, wherein the vertical surface model is a translated and scaled version of an initial vertical surface model. The new vertical surface model provides translation and scaling of the initial vertical surface model to a suitable range before it is used to determine the three dimensional position of the wireless device such that accuracy is improved, e.g., in large rural cells.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2018Publication date: December 31, 2020Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Torbjörn Wigren

Publication number: 20200408873Abstract: Various embodiments determine a position of a wireless device and enable the wireless device to retrieve the determined location. In one embodiment, a system comprises of at least one wireless transmitting device, a plurality of wireless receivers, and at least one server. Each of the plurality of wireless devices receive signals from the wireless transmitting device with unknown position and send time stamped information to the server. Each of the plurality of wireless device also sends unique identifying information about the wireless transmitting device. The server calculates a position of the wireless transmitting device by considering the inputs received from the plurality of wireless receivers. The wireless device obtains its position from the server. The process can be executed on demand or at regular frequent intervals.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2020Publication date: December 31, 2020Inventor: Nicholaus J. Bauer
