Abstract: Instrumentation and a method for unicompartmental knee replacement procedure are described. The surgical instrumentation may include a unicondylar posterior femoral cutting guide, a unicondylar tibial cutting block assembly and a unicondylar femoral cutting guide. The method may include inserting the unicondylar posterior femoral cutting guide into a joint gap while the knee is in flexion, resecting the posterior femoral condyle of the femur while the knee is in flexion, the surface of the resected posterior femoral condyle defining a reference plane, and setting the position of a unicondylar tibial cutting block on the tibia relative to the reference plane by using the resected surface of the posterior femoral condyle. The unicondylar femoral cutting guide may then be used to make one or more femoral cuts.

The apparatus includes a graspable handpiece and has an end fitted with a single active electrode, a generator system configured to generate a radio frequency electrical signal adapted to bias the active electrode to generate a plasma glow discharge between the active electrode and the tissue when the active electrode is in the proximity of the tissue. The apparatus also includes a stabilizing cable configured to close a circuit with the handpiece and the plasma glow discharge and to allow a return of a part of the current generated in the plasma discharge from the tissue toward the generator system.

Abstract: A handpiece for a surgical instrument having a valve position sensing circuit arranged to detect the position of a valve arranged to control the flow of fluid through the suction lumen of the instrument. The distal end of the handpiece is arranged to couple to a cutting accessory. The handpiece includes: a housing; a suction lumen within the housing extending from the distal end of the handpiece to a proximal end of the handpiece; a valve arranged to control the flow of fluid through the suction lumen; and a valve position sensing circuit arranged to detect a position of the valve. The valve position sensing circuit can be used to alert a surgeon if the valve is closed when it would be preferable for it to be open. For example, if the motor is overheating, the in-joint temperature is too high, or the RF component is activated.

Abstract: An intravascular catheter for peri-vascular and/or peri-urethral tissue ablation includes multiple needles advanced through supported guide tubes which expand around a central axis to engage the interior surface of the wall of the renal artery or other vessel of a human body allowing the injection an ablative fluid for ablating tissue, and/or nerve fibers in the outer layer or deep to the outer layer of the vessel, or in prostatic tissue. The system may also include a means to limit and/or adjust the depth of penetration of the ablative fluid into and beyond the tissue of the vessel wall. The catheter may also include structures which provide radial and/or lateral support to the guide tubes so that the guide tubes expand uniformly and maintain their position against the interior surface of the vessel wall as the sharpened injection needles are advanced to penetrate into the vessel wall.

Abstract: A manipulable portion of a catheter system advances out of a lumen of a catheter sheath at a distal end of a shaft, which is also within the lumen of the catheter sheath. The catheter system causes different advancement and retraction trajectories of a manipulable portion out of and into the lumen based at least upon different relative movements between the catheter sheath and the shaft. A projection and a corresponding receiver may be used to control relative positioning of the catheter sheath and the shaft, as well as to control positioning of the manipulable portion. The catheter system may control metering rates of a control element coupled to the manipulable portion during advancement and retraction of the manipulable portion. A control element of the catheter system has varying amounts of length outside a distal end of the catheter sheath during advancement and retraction of the manipulable portion.
