Abstract: This disclosure relates to a rib-rolling mechanism for processing tobacco ribs and includes a pair of relatively rotatable rollers having peripheral surfaces defining therebetween a throat through which it is adapted to pass tobacco, the rollers having shafts, the shafts of the first of the rollers being journaled for rotation in fixed bearings and the shafts of the second of the rollers being journaled for rotation in movable bearings, a device for resiliently urging the second roller toward the first roller, the latter device including a rod connected to each of the movable bearings, a sleeve in external telescopic relationship to each of the rods, springs coupled between each of the sleeves and the second roller for urging the latter toward the first roller, and elements for axially shifting the rods to vary the force exerted by the springs in a direction to urge the second roller toward the first roller.

Abstract: A pressure-roller apparatus comprising two compression rollers providing a pressure nip therebetween for the introduction of sheets or other thin members to be compressed and fed. The degree of pressure in the nip is variable by means of one or more adjustment roller assemblies comprising adjustment rollers which are substantially shorter in length than said compression rollers and which engage one of said compression rollers at one or more points intermediate its ends to provide an intermediate and balanced pressure adjustment which avoids bowing of said compression roller.
Abstract: A sugar cane mill comprises two lower cylinders mounted on respective support beds and an upper cylinder carried by two bearing connected to respective cover members pivotally mounted on a respective support bed. Elastically deformable blocks connect each bearing to a respective cover member to permit movements of the upper cylinder with respect to the cover members in a direction approximately perpendicular to a plane defined by the axis of the upper cylinder and the resultant of the pressure forces during normal operation of the mill. The blocks extend on either side of the plane.
Abstract: A pressing installation for use with a copying arrangement which installation includes a pair of opposed pressure rollers mounted on shafts mutually inclined toward one another with bearing blocks being provided for supporting the rollers. The bearing blocks are pivotably connected on one side of the pressure rollers by a leaf-spring joint arrangement with an adjustable clamping arrangement being provided on the other side of the pressure rollers for maintaining the bearing blocks in a fixed position. The spring arrangement forms a fixed spring joint free from play between the bearing blocks.
