  • Patent number: 7162954
Abstract: A process is disclosed for determining cutting positions of web strands (B1, B2), which are brought together into a strand to be bound (H1) in a rotary printing press and cross-cut. A measured value for the cutting position of the web strands (B1, B2) is formed in the strand to be bound (H1) and one individual strand measured value for the cutting positions of the web strands (B1, B2) is recorded for each of the web strands (B1, B2) before bringing together. The cutting positions of the web strands (B1, B2) are determined from the individual strand measured values and the common measured value recorded for the web strands (B1, B2) of the strand to be bound (H1) in the strand to be bound (H1).

  • Patent number: 7096782
Abstract: A driving apparatus in a printing press includes a plate cylinder driven by a printing press motor, an inking device drive-coupled to the plate cylinder, and a driving connecting/disconnecting mechanism. The mechanism connects and disconnects transmission of driving from the plate cylinder to the inking device, and includes first and second gears which are engageable with each other, supported rotatably, and constantly drive-coupled to one and the remaining one, respectively, of the plate cylinder and inking device. The second gear has a second engaging portion engageable with a plurality of first engaging portions of the first gear which have the same shape and are equidistantly arranged in a rotational direction of the first gear. When the first and second engaging portions engage, the plate cylinder and inking device are drive-coupled; when they are disengaged, they are disconnected.

  • Patent number: 7017486
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for printing on material in web form print images are successively applied to the web by a transfer cylinder. The web is continuously drawn into the printing station and the speed at which the web is moved in the printing station during a printing operation is greater than the speed at which it is drawn into the printing station. After the printing operation the web is positioned in the printing station for the following printing operation relative to the transfer cylinder which is not in contact with the web during a part of a revolution of 360°, and at the same time the path of the web is altered in accordance with the change in the speed thereof. The web is driven by the impression cylinder which is associated with the transfer cylinder and around the peripheral surface of which the web partially passes. Positioning of the web for the respectively following printing operation is implemented by a change in the rotary movement of the impression cylinder.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device and a method for detecting, identifying and relocating defects in a material strip of great length. In order to enable defects to be relocated reliably and quickly with relatively little effort, the material strip is checked for defects, and position indicators are applied to the material strip continuously over its length. In the event of a defect being observed, an associated defect position indicator is stored, and during the subsequent relocation of a defect, a current starting position indicator is established, and the material strip is moved over a conveying length which is calculated from the established starting position indicator and the stored defect position indicator.

  • Patent number: 6712000
Abstract: A cylinder for a rotary printing press is supported by bearings that are situated outside of the spaced side frames of the press. Each bearing is arranged in a bearing bushing that is, in turn supported by the press lateral frame. All of the bearing is located away from the lateral frame.

  • Patent number: 6705219
Abstract: The web-fed rotary offset printing machine utilizes a blanket belt onto which two or more colors are offset and which prints the two or more colors at once onto a material web. The blanket belt travels about guide rollers which have a lesser mass and/or a lesser diameter than the form cylinders which offset the colors onto the blanket belt. If several impression nips—blanket to web nips—are formed along the travel path of the material web, they are located so close to one another that fan out register errors cannot occur.

  • Patent number: 6684776
Abstract: A method for determining the presence of slipping of a driven nip roller relative to the web in a web printing press includes systematically changing the speed of the nip driver while monitoring the corresponding change in web tension difference across the nip. The linearity and a slope of the relationship between the tension difference and the speed of the nip driver are determined. When the tension difference is non-linear relative to the speed of the driver or the slope of the relationship is substantially less than an expected slope, then slipping is determined to be present. An operator slip indication may be provided which includes the direction of the slip, positive or negative. The operator may then take corrective action to re-establish a non-slip condition, or automatic corrective actions may ensue.

Abstract: In order to provide a rotary printing machine for direct printing, in which the printing-assembly cylinders are guided in a stable manner by means of a cost-effective device, the forme cylinder and the impression cylinder of a printing assembly are mounted, adjustably in terms of their mutual spacing, in side walls. At least one of the two cylinders is mounted on both sides in slides movable on straight guide elements which are arranged in each case on at least one of two opposite panels of an aperture in the side walls.

  • Patent number: 6662721
Abstract: In a rotary press, a first press roller adapted to retreat during printing and advance during plate changing to contact a web is provided on a travel route of the web between a printing unit and a dryer. A second press roller having the same function as the first press roller is provided on the travel route of the web between air infeed unit and the printing unit. A web presser for pinching the web is provided on the travel route of the web between the infeed unit and the second press roller. With the web being pinched by the web presser, the first press roller and the second press roller can be moved by the web in a retreating direction. After plate changing is completed, the press rollers can smoothly ascend regardless of their pressure, and can promptly and smoothly return to the state before plate changing.

Abstract: A fanout compensator for a printing press, which comprises a rotary body formation, which has foot sections and head sections alternatingly next to each other along a longitudinal axis. The foot sections and head sections form a wave-shaped surface in order to deform a web to be printed on. The web wraps around the rotary body formation, in a wave-shaped pattern at right angles to the direction of conveying of the web. Fluid channels, which open on the surface of the rotary body formation, are formed in the rotary body formation. The rotary body formation has a fluid connection connected to the fluid channels in order to guide a pressurized fluid to the fluid channels and through the fluid channels to the surface of the rotary body formation.
