Abstract: Presented is a unique lighted flea comb suitable for all coat types and is specifically designed to extract fleas from a pet's fur even when the lighting condition is not optimal or during the absence of light. This feature allows a pet owner or a comb user to get a clear view of fleas or like parasites, and allow the comb user to easily remove them with the multi row and tightly spaced bristles of the comb. The proposed lighted flea comb is also built with a comfortable ergonomic handle with a groove for user's finger and curved body for superior control.

Abstract: A hair brush which has a specific arrangement of rows of substantially elliptical (eg oval) cross-section shaped bristles. Each bristle resembles a blade which has a tendency to flex on its minor axis and resist flexing on its major axis. By arranging such bristles in rows, the direction of flex is controlled, and hair can be moved in different directions to promote detangling but not at the expense of the quality of brushing.

Abstract: A method of grooming a horse including selecting a grooming kit according to a horse attribute. The method involves selecting a grooming kit according to a horse attribute, the horse attribute being categorized according to a categorization scheme. The categorization scheme has a plurality of categories including: a first category corresponding to a gray or white horse coat type; a second category corresponding to a light bay or chestnut horse coat type; and a third category corresponding to a black or dark bay horse coat type. A prescribed sequential grooming regime is followed according to the categorization of horse and the selected grooming kit. Each of the grooming kits has a specific combination of brush types for a sequential order of brushing steps.

A plurality of adjustable teeth may be slideably coupled to the non-rotatable shaft and a plurality of spacers may be positioned on the rotatable shaft. At least a portion of one or more of the plurality of spacers may engage at least a portion of a respective one or more of the adjustable teeth. A rotation of the rotatable shaft rotates the spacers and causes a lateral movement of the adjustable teeth along the non-rotatable shaft.

Abstract: A pet grooming tool has a handle, a support member, and a grooming mechanism for de-shedding and grooming coarse, long, thick fur and fine, short fur or the undercoat of an animal during the grooming process while using a single tool. The grooming mechanism has a rod, a plurality of spacers, a plurality of single-sided combs, and a plurality of double-sided combs, with each of the combs having a cutting edge. The spacers and combs are arranged such that this single tool can be utilized for different animals having varying lengths and thicknesses. This tool minimizes the need for expert technique and experience in grooming an animal.

The brush surface includes at least a first region having first pressure-transfer properties, and a second region having second pressure-transfer properties which differ from the first pressure-transfer properties. A plane at a right angle to the rotation axis intersects both the first and second regions. The brush has a cylinder shape with a central cylinder axis. The rotation axis is eccentric and in a position which differs from a position of the central cylinder axis. Upon rotation, the brush massages the body of the livestock animal in the contact region thereof by transferring the varying pressures onto the body of the animal by successively bringing the first and second brush surface regions into contact with the body of the animal.

Abstract: Livestock grooming articles and methods regarding the use of such livestock grooming articles are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a livestock grooming article can include coatings configured to inhibit or reduce the buildup of adhesives on the livestock grooming article that are applied to livestock animal hair. In one or more embodiments, the livestock grooming article can increase the appearance of volume to the hair of livestock.

Abstract: A system for removal of hair includes an instrument having a frame with a trailing handle segment and a leading treatment segment, a manually manipulative actuator mounted relative to the trailing handle segment of the frame and a drive member operatively coupled to the actuator and extending at least partially within the leading treatment segment of the frame. The drive member is movable between an initial condition and a deployed condition in response to corresponding movement of the actuator. A blade assembly is mountable relative to the leading treatment segment of the frame. The blade assembly includes a blade housing mountable relative to the treatment segment of the frame, a blade mounted to the blade housing and having hair teeth for grooming a pet and an ejector member mounted relative to the blade housing. The ejector member is couplable to the drive member of the instrument and positioned to facilitate removal of hair from the blade upon movement toward the advanced position.

Abstract: A pet grooming tool including a handle and long tines terminating in short, shallow catchment hooks. When the tines are drawn through the pet's fur, the catchment hooks untie tangled and matted fur incrementally without snagging and compounding the whole mass and without cutting through or removing attached fur. The hooks include a blunt leading edge that grabs and unties fur entanglements without cutting the fur. The long tines deliver the catchment hooks to the under coat while leaving the guard coat alone. The handle is ergonomic with a contoured shape for ease of use, effective engagement of the tines with the fur and a pleasing grooming experience for the pet owner and the pet.

Abstract: A device for delivering an agent to the skin or the hair or the fur of a recipient. In one form the device has a comb-like extent of tines which are of a carrier material that will melt on contact with skin and thereby deposit an agent that is mixed with the carrier. In other form there is an abrading material in the mixture so as to abrade the skin and thereby allow the agent to be deposited. In the latter case the agent may be an inoculant. The tines may also be placed on a glove so that the agent can be delivered by moving the tines over a selected area to deposit the agent. The device can be in the form of a finger condom having a tine strip. The methods allow delivery of the agent using the various forms of the device and to accomplish various purposes.

The scraper uncovers the hair collectors when the device is pressed down for use, and scrapes the hair collectors to eject hair collected when the device is released. Ejection of collected hair can also be controlled manually. A collection chamber may be provided, and multiple combs may be mounted on a rotatable dowel that recede within the rotatable barrel, or with sliding plates around and offset from the dowel as the dowel is rotated. A door or window on a surface of the collection chamber can be opened to empty the chamber of collected hair.

Abstract: Monitoring activity of an animal in a system for housing freely moving animals including a plurality of animal ID stations, includes the steps of a) recording a first visit of said animal at a first of said animal ID stations, b) recording a subsequent second visit of said animal at a second of said animal ID stations, and c) determining a distance covered by said animal as the distance between said first animal ID station at said first visit and said second animal ID station at said second visit. With such simple means, parts of which are already present in e.g. most robot dairy stables, important information about activity of animals can easily be gathered.

Abstract: An improved pet grooming tool is provided for grooming pets and removing loose or detached hair from their fur coats, while removing substantially no or acceptably little live hair and without the need to include any blade portion for engaging the loose or dead hairs. The tool can also collect the removed hair as opposed to permitting most of it to fall to the floor. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the grooming tool includes an elongated handle portion having proximal and distal ends, a head portion at the distal end of the handle, and a carding portion on the head. A tool axis extends in a proximal direction from the head to the proximal end and in preferred embodiments of the invention, corresponds to the direction in which the tool is drawn across the animal's coat (the grooming direction). Abstract: Disclosed is a pet grooming and pest killing device that comprises a handled comb having a working end comprising a plurality of comb tooth electrodes powered by a battery power supply within the handle of the device. The comb teeth employ an alternating configuration wherein adjacent teeth employ opposing polarity and the tips of the teeth are shrouded by a protective insulator. The spacing of the teeth is such that a tick or flea will become trapped between two teeth, allowing current to flow from one electrode to another through the pest and thus killing it upon contact. The ends of the teeth are insulated to prevent shocking of the pet during the combing process. In this way, pet hair can be tended to while also killing loose ticks, fleas and other pests within the pet's hair while grooming.

The undercoat rake includes grooming teeth comprising at least two different types of grooming teeth, each having a base portion, a tip portion, and a shoulder between the base portion and the tip portion. First teeth of the two different types of grooming teeth may have a tip portion that is greater in length than the corresponding tip portion of second teeth to create a variable depth grooming profile. The disclosed structure advantageously removes undercoat fur of a furred animal that has been shed or is soon to be shed. The variable depth grooming profile has been found to be highly effective to rapidly and efficiently thin the undercoat of a furred animal.
