  • Patent number: 6510816
Abstract: An equine body brush is specially formed to produce a combined cleaning and brushing action for each single stroke of the brush in a desired stroke direction by using two distinct stiffness of bristles arrayed in a linearly tapered height arrangement. The leading edge bristles are shorter and harder than the following bristles which are longer and softer. The hard bristles first pull up the dander, loose animal hair and other debris and the following soft bristles sweep them away before they get a chance to settle back down. The correct cleaning and brushing directional action can be maintained regardless of which hand the user employs by virtue of either a unique pair of handles disposed on opposite ends of the central bristle-carrying brush portion, or a smaller palm-sized hand brush.

  • Patent number: 5862780
Abstract: An improved tool for grooming pets, especially for the removal of loose hair and hair that is soon to become loose, comprised of a base (10) with comb extensions (12,14) mounted on either side at an angle of less than 90 degrees to the base. The comb extensions (12,14) are comprised of tines extending from a solid backbone or shoulder (16) that protrudes from the base (10). The comb extensions (12) on one side of the base have tines that are larger and spaced further apart than the tines of the comb extensions (14) on the other side of the base. A cleaning tool (18) comprised of a base (20) with tines (22) protruding therefrom is held in a compartment (24) on the side of the invention when not in use. As the invention is stroked through the hair of the animal, the angle of the comb extensions (12,14) causes a deep and prolonged penetration of the coat.

  • Patent number: 5546895
Abstract: A pet door consisting of an opening filled by the bristles of a brush or brushes. An animal moves through the opening by pushing aside the flexible bristles, which reliably and quietly reseal the opening after the animal passes. Moving through the brushes is as natural to an animal as moving through tall grass or underbrush. The brushes perform a grooming function by removing dirt and debris from the animal's coat as it enters. The brushes have high insulating value due to the volume of air trapped among the bristles.
