Abstract: A compact portable grill has upper and lower sections of a base, a grill body and a cover which may also be used as a cooking pot or wok. The cover, grill body, upper section and lower section, are all of equal height. When the cover and upper section are inverted, the grill body fits within the cover, the upper section of the base fits within the grill body and the lower section of the base fits within the upper section of the base in a compact, tight arrangement suitable for shipping or transporting in a short cardboard box. The lower section of the base and a lower portion of the grill body may hold a grate for roasting or grilling. In the former configuration, fuel is added through a sliding door in the upper section of the base. Paper is added and lighted through a door in a lower section of the base to start the briquets. Aligned openings in telescopic joints are held together by eye-bolts.

Abstract: The insulated barbeque unit of the present invention is comprised of a rectangular box which is formed from two rectangular half boxes hinged along one of their edges. The unit can fold from a closed position wherein the two box halves are in the form of an enclosed rectangular box, to an open position wherein the two box halves are pivoted 180.degree. with respect to one another. The housing of the unit is formed from two spaced apart inner and outer walls which have insulative material therebetween. Foldable legs are attached to the device and may be moved from a stored position within the rectangular box to an operative position wherein they support the box in spaced relation above the supporting surface.

Abstract: A portable charcoal grill includes a bowl and a tripod leg arrangement with an ash catcher supported by the legs. The ash catcher includes a pan that is wedged into the leg structure and is held in the wedged position by spring clips carried by the legs and having arms engaging the bottom of the pan.

Abstract: A collapsible, folding barbecue cooking unit is provided having a generally rectangular base formed by a base plate with upstanding side and rear wall portions. A pair of side plates and a back plate are hingedly connected to the upstanding side and back wall portions and are positionable in upright interlocked relation during use. A pair of horizontal grill elements of slightly smaller dimension than that of the base plate are capable of being supported within the cooking unit by opposed handle elements that are selectively engageable with grill positioning slots formed in the side plates. For storage, the grill elements are positionable within a rectangular grill storage receptacle defined by the base plate and the upstanding wall portions thereof with the handle portions of both of the grill elements being exposed outwardly of the unit. The side wall and rear wall portions are then foldable to overlapping relation against the uppermost grill element within the grill storage enclosure.

Abstract: A barbeque grill with paper start facility comprising an open top receptacle defining a floor that includes one or more draft openings of adjustable size, a tinder receiver, that receives the paper, in association with the receptacle at its central axis and in alignment with the draft openings, a charcoal support grid and means for removably mounting same in the receptacle over the receptacle floor and above and adjacent the upper end of the tinder receiver, a charcoal receiver in the form of an open ended sleeve of impervious sheet metal material that includes a pair of oppositely located handles adjacent its upper end, which charcoal receiver is proportioned to be disposed in substantially congruent relation with the tinder receiver and on the charcoal support grid above the tinder receiver, and a food cooking grid and means for removably mounting same in the receptacle above the charcoal grid after the charcoal is ignited by igniting the tinder.

Abstract: A barbecue grill has several dish-shaped racks which can be optionally assembled and disassembled, and supported to rotate and control the degree of heat applied to the meat and prevent burning it, part of the racks being far away from the fire for holding meat or other food for slow cooking, warming, or cooling. The bottom of the grill has a plate for holding charcoal and holes in the plate for dropping charcoal or ash, to an ash collecting drawer. At two sides of the body, are side plates which incline outward. If ash is full in the ash receiver drawer, it can be drawn and poured out. Support legs insert into the grill body to support the body in use, and can be inverted to form a portable handle, so that, after used, the dish-shaped racks can be disassembled and stored in the body, and the side plates are folded to cover the body, and the support legs are inverted to become a handle making the grill very convenient to be carried.

Abstract: A portable food cooker for water smoker or direct heat cooking of food products comprising a support pedestal mounted on wheels and containing a heating unit, an open-ended wall section removably supported with a lower open end on the pedestal in communication with the heating unit and extending upwardly therefrom, a removable cover for closing the upper end of the wall section and defining with the pedestal and wall section a confined cooking compartment, one or more food support grills mounted at selected elevations in the compartment, and a pan located in the compartment below the grills and above the heating unit to contain water for water smoker cooking or, alternatively, fuel for direct heat cooking. The pan catches and contains material falling from food on the grill during the cooking operation, and an annular reservoir in the bottom of the wall section collects materials falling into the lower portion of the cooking compartment.

Abstract: A portable compactly stored outdoor cooking stand can be used either with a self-contained charcoal compartment or over an open campfire, and can cook in many cooking modes including, open flame grilling, frying, steaming, boiling, baking, etc. Thus, a stand for straddling a campfire site vertically arranges one or more of three encompassed cooking utensils, namely a grill cooking surface, a pan for holding food or charcoal, and a vented cover for release of smoke, fumes, or steam. The pan and cover mate to form a portable suitcase-like carrying case with a handle that contains all the other elements for transport and compact storage when not in use.

Abstract: A stove includes a housing having side-by-side chambers each of which may be alternately used either as a firebox or an oven. One chamber is located directly under a grill while the other chamber is located under a griddle so that the location of the fire can be selected to obtain the most advantageous heat-distribution for the type of cooking engaged in--but the arrangement is such that no matter which firebox location is selected, both the grill and the griddle are heated to some extent.

A device is supported by the firebox which is adaptable for extinguishing the flames of canned jellied alcohol or the like seated on the support.

Abstract: A barbecue grill includes a bowl and a cover each having vents with the cover having a cover and the unit having the locking bar that locks with the gripping handle in a closed position. The locking bar has vent closures that close the vents in the bowl in a closed position. The bowl is supported by three U-shaped legs identical in construction that are secured to the bowl by fasteners and the fasteners provide support points for a fuel support grid within the bowl.

Abstract: A radiant heat collector is disclosed in the form of a reflector oven. The oven collects heat from a heat source adjacent to the oven. The reflective surfaces are detachably secured to end plates, which plates are of a generally rectangular configuration. Tie rods may be used to retain the grill assembly, or tabs on either the grill or on the reflective surfaces, or on both, and may be used for this purpose with or without tie rods. The assembled reflector is of a generally elliptical section shape (rather than parabolic) to enhance the thorough heating of the material placed on the grill to be heated. The elliptical section encompasses one end of an ellipse about one focus line and a source of heat may be conveniently located at the other focus line. The major axis of the ellipse dips downward from the section to the heat source and the rack or grill is positioned under the section focus line esssentially to one side of the major axis.

For storage and for transporting a folded truncated pyramidal firebox, a folded truncated pyramidal support member, a diffuser, a grill, a griddle, a windbreak and cover are disposed over the oven. The cover is releasably secured to the top of the oven and the folded truncated pyramidal firebox, the folded truncated pyramidal support member, the diffuser, the grill, the griddle and the windbreak are retained therebetween in a compact form. In use, the oven with the drawer may be employed as the base of the cooking unit or, in the alternative, the oven may be disposed above the extended truncated pyramidal firebox, the extended truncated pyramidal support member and the diffuser. In the alternate arrangement, the cover serves as the base for the cooking unit.

Abstract: A portable camp stove comprising a housing having two concave sections each having an open end and hinged to one another for juxtaposition with their open ends facing one another. One of the concave sections has a heat generating element secured therein beneath a heat transmitting support frame. The other of the concave sections has a collapsible wall assembly secured thereto and positionable to an operable vertical position extending above the open end thereof. A combustible product support platform is securable internally of the wall assembly, when in the operable vertical position, to support a combustible product thereon at a desired height. The wall assembly has at least one angulated reflective wall. A reflective base wall is also provided under the support platform for collecting ashes and radiating heat upwardly.

Abstract: An adapter for using with a kettle-type charcoal or gas grill to cook and smoke meat, and a method of smoking meat using the adapter. The adapter includes a vertical cylindrical peripheral wall of a diameter just smaller than the kettle grill itself. Handles are attached near the top of the wall on opposite sides. The fasteners used to attach the handles extend through the wall and support a grill rack about 12 to 18 inches above the level where the rack would be if it were in its normal position in the lower or "kettle" portion of the grill. A second grill rack is supported about six inches above the bottom of the adapter. Small clips are hooked over the edge of the kettle portion of the grill and support the adapter by means of an outstanding tab. Four such clips are generally required to support the adapter with stability. The method includes salting the food, especially if it is fish or fowl, before cooking.

The members are either flat or have simple shapes that have little bulk and, when assembled, provide a rigid, strong and stable structure with easily operated heating units. When disassembled, the parts can be wrapped in a pouch of flexible material and folded into a flat, relatively flexible configuration.

Abstract: A versatile cooker assembly includes a rectangular fire pan and a cover which may enclose the other parts of the assembly when they are packed for storage. These additional parts include a pair of supporting end plates and a pair of side plates in addition to a grill. Fasteners selectively hold the cover onto the fire pan, or the supporting end plates to the fire pan to mount it off the ground, with transverse ribs on the end plates providing support for the grill at different levels above the fire pan. The front and rear side plates fit tightly into recesses at the edges of the end plates to form a wind screen or a baking chamber; and the cover of the unit may partially or completely enclose the top of the assembly for smoking or baking purposes.

Abstract: A combustible readily ignitable rectangular container is erected from its originally flat folded state and inserted into a free-standing octagonal vented metal ignition sleeve resting on a grill surface. Crumpled paper is placed within the bottom of the ignition sleeve beneath pivoted vertically swinging grate members thereof and below the bottom of the combustible charcoal container. The quantity of charcoal briquettes is dumped directly from a briquette package into the combustible container to fill the same. The crumpled paper is ignited, which in turn ignites the combustible container and the charcoal briquettes in an efficient manner. After a short interval, a handle member is inserted through apertures of the metal ignition sleeve and the latter is bodily lifted from the grill surface to dump the ignited charcoal briquettes thereon, the vertically swinging grate members swinging downwardly to permit the dumping of the burning briquettes.

Abstract: A cooking utensil intended, in particular, for use on an open fire on the ground comprises a wok-shaped metal dish, a handle releasably secured to the center of an upwardly-facing cooking surface of the metal dish and three legs releasably secured to the underside of the metal dish for supporting the metal dish on the ground in a cooking position. In another embodiment a second wok-shaped metal dish is provided upon which a fire can be built.

Abstract: A cooking apparatus includes a vessel or bowl that has a plurality of openings circumferentially-spaced around a central vertical axis with the support structure for the bowl including a plurality of identical legs and an ash catcher. The ash catcher is designed such that one end portion of each leg is received into a slot and the other end portion is received into the opening and receives wing nuts so that the unit can be assembled without the use of any tools.

Abstract: A more convenient and versatile charcoal fired cooking apparatus is disclosed. A free-standing charcoal and water pan assembly having support legs allows lifting off of the body or shell of the cooker together with two food support racks held on brackets thereof. The water pan is also liftable from the legs of the free-standing assembly to enable direct grilling of food when desired. A removable dome rests on the top edge of the cooker body.

Each wall in each pair of walls releasably interlocks with each associated wall of the other pair of walls. At least one of the walls is detachably mountable to the base. The cover is hingeably attachable to one of the walls when that wall is erected on the base and is hingeably attachable to the base when the walls are detached from the base to form a portable housing. A collapsible stand may also be provided for supporting the erected grill housing.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a portable cooking grill of the kind intended for use outdoor charcoal cooking. In one embodiment, the grill according to the invention may be relatively small and easily carried on camping hikes. In another embodiment, the grill of the invention is completely collapsible but is useful as a large multipurpose apparatus for use in charcoal cooking for a large number of people. The invention provides adjustable features, including at least one grill unit and/or a cooking pan which can be handled while hot but very safely. Moreover, the supporting frame of the grill and the added cooking members such as grill units, pans or the like are structured to permit these added members to be placed in horizontal or inclined positions and at preselected levels above the ground.

Abstract: A portable cooking apparatus is provided which comprises two or more substantially planar cooking structures, hinge means connecting the cooking structures, a plurality of legs capable of detachable affixment to said cooking structures, and a leg carrier assembly affixed to the cooking structures, wherein the leg carrier assembly includes at least two guide members, each of which contains at least one aperture of a size and shape sufficient to admit at least one of said legs, the guide members being affixed to a first cooking structure such that a leg may rest in the apertures of at least two guide members simultaneously, and at least two retaining elements, each retaining element being affixed to a cooking structure such that, when the cooking apparatus is collapsed, each retaining element at least partially opposes end-wise movement of a leg as the leg rests in the apertures of the guide members.

Abstract: A barbecue unit having a lower, open top member and a cover for placement over the lower member in either one or two locations. In a first, stored location, the cover is collapsed on the lower member so that, together, they require only a minimum amount of space for storage. In the second position, the cover overlies the open top of the lower member and the sides of the cover are supported by rigid bars on the upper, opposed sides of the lower member. A grill on the open top of the lower member thus can support food items to be barbecued, and the space above the grill and below the cover can be used to collect smoke for smoking the food items. The bars on the lower member are pivotally mounted thereon so that they can be retracted to allow the cover to be collapsed on the lower member for storage purposes. A number of pivotally mounted legs on the lower member support the same above a support surface and the lower member has a lower, inner grill for supporting charcoal briquettes.

Abstract: An apparatus for converting a kettle-type food cooker into a food smoker includes an upright cylindrical housing having an open top and bottom with a grill support at its upper end and a water pan support at its lower end. The housing is positionable between a fuel-holding base and a cover for the food cooker in a vertically stacked arrangement to define a smoking chamber. The grill support and pan support both include brace members extending across the interior of the housing. The lower brace member has a downwardly offset central portion and a cross bracket for removably receiving and supporting the water pan. The housing also includes an access opening at its lower end, and a movable door to cover the access opening and permit the supply of fuel to be replenished.

Abstract: A solid fuel burning heating apparatus, used as a parlor stove, is also used for cooking. The stove is provided with a self-clearing top smoke chamber having a top cover over an aperture. A cooking tray is supported in the aperture when the stove is operating. The tray has a surface for holding coals and an opening communicating between the aperture and the interior of the stove. A perforate cooking surface is supported above the tray.

Abstract: An easily and conveniently portable barbecue grill in which the bowl has an outwardly and upwardly extending flange around its perimeter and the lid has an outwardly extending flange around its perimeter, which flanges cooperate to produce a secure attachment between the lid and the bowl when the lid is placed on the bowl in a certain way. In the preferred embodiment, the bowl flange has two or more indentations equally spaced around its perimeter to form a number of inwardly facing reentrant portions on that flange, and the lid flange has at least one gap in its perimeter.

Abstract: A compact knockdown charcoal cooker which includes an outer pan frame, a nesting fire tray and the outer pan frame forms the base for hinged back and side plates and in support of removable ferrule secured legs. The pan and tray are embossed with radial ribs from a rectangular crossed embossed depression in providing strength at light weight and in resistance to warpage. A grill is adjustably supported above the fire tray on notches in the front edges of the side plates and in corresponding perforations in the back plate. Assembly pins secure sides and back against collapse and all detachable elements are storable in the collapsed knockdown cooker in a rectangular package.

Abstract: A folding roaster comprises a front trapezoid plate, a rear trapezoid plate, two folding side plates, an uppermost screen, a middle screen and a lower screen or bottom ash pan in that all plates are developed for putting screens on the roaster and the uppermost screen is put on the top edges of the plate for roasting use, the middle screen is put on the middle portion for supporting burning charcoal and the lower screen is put on the lower portion for supporting burning wood thereon.

Abstract: A folding barbecue composed of bottom and four wall panels, the bottom panel is pivotably connected with respective wall panel, any two adjacent panels are provided with a passage at adjacent edges and secured by passing one pin upwardly through said passage, and said pin has its lower end to serve as the leg support of the barbecue. This barbecue may be folded into a flat shape adapted for carrying or storage and also may be treated as a disposable commodity due to low cost.

Abstract: This invention relates to a small portable grill, wherein the fire box and the hood or cover have a depth and are removably hinged together, pivoted handle means on the hood to retain the fire box and hood in closed position, and manipulate the hood in both open and lateral position, the fire box bottom wall being provided with a series of equispaced indentations whereby each indentation may readily support a single charcoal briquette and of a spacing that each briquette touches adjacent briquettes, removable grill rods are supported over said fire box and said fire box has pivotal legs for supporting the grill above a surface and provides means for carrying the grill in closed position. Therefore this grill is especially suited for use on patios or porches or balconies and is ideal for fishermen, campers, picnickers and hunters.

A vertical frame is provided with a lower ground engaging end and a plurality of vertically spaced apart, forwardly opening, receptacles for removably engaging cooking and fire box frames. Lateral stabilizers, having lower ground engaging ends, are rotatably attached to each side of the vertical frame for adjustable disposition forwardly thereof.

Abstract: The insulated barbeque unit of the present invention is comprised of a cylindrical unit which is formed from two half cylindrical pieces hinged along one of their edges. The unit can fold from a closed position wherein two cylindrical halves are in the formation of a cylinder, to an open position wherein the two cylindrical halves are pivoted 180.degree. with respect to one another. The cylindrical housing of the unit is formed from two spaced apart inner and outer walls which have an insulative material therebetween. The insulative material protects the outer wall of the unit from the heat which is within the unit during the time that the unit is being operated as a barbeque.

Abstract: A collapsible grill comprises a plurality of rods which are attached at their ends to a pair of flexible cables. A pair of bars are attached by several turns to the respective ends of the first rod and constrained to prevent escape from near the ends by a pair of pins in the first rod near its ends. The bars have hooks which engage detents on the last rod, which may be formed of indentations or the like, so that when assembled for use, the bars are held by the spring action of the last bar and the first bar to place the bars under compression and the cables under tension. The grid is thus spread out for use. One or more additional cables may be attached to the rods. The rods may have handles at the end remote from the turns formed by a simple fold-back of the ends. Forked stakes may be used to support the grill during use.When not in use, the hooks may be disengaged, the bars and rods made near parallel and rolled up held by the chains, and constrained by a hook on the last bar to be retained in a bundle.

Abstract: A portable cooking apparatus comprises a container having a lower end part to be heated, and a tunnel member arranged to receive at its upper end region the lower end part of the container and to receive at its lower end region a burner; the container and the tunnel member are so shaped that the container is movable from an elevated position where it rests with its lower end spaced above the burner to be heated by the burner flame, to a lower position where its lower end will extinguish the burner flame.The apparatus may also comprise a base pan to receive the lower end region of the tunnel member and provided with a handle which is movable from a lowered position where it acts as a carrying handle to a raised position where it acts to hold the tunnel member securely sandwiched between the base pan and the container.

Abstract: A portable campfire fireplace for containing a campfire and for providing a cooking surface which is adjustable with respect to the fire, in which side walls form a firebox and are hinged to fold flat, side by side. A post extends upwardly from eyes at one corner of the firebox and a bracket for holding a grill is slidable and rotatable on the post. A collar and set screw hold the bracket in place on the post. All pieces of the fireplace can be attached to one wall of the firebox for storing and transporting the fireplace. A false bottom may be disposed in the firebox for charcoal cooking, to hold the charcoal near the top of the firebox.

Abstract: In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a portable campfire grill assembly includes a support having a flat bracket upper end portion with several side slots cut therein, a handle having a bight with a slot formed in its upper wall adapted to mate with one of the bracket slots when the bight is fitted thereon, and a rectangular lock that is slipped down over the top of the bracket and fitted over the bight to securely lock the handle and bracket to one another.

Abstract: An outdoor cooking apparatus having a collapsible support which is pivotally mounted in the recess of an automotive spare tire rim. The pan of the cooking apparatus is pivotally attached to the end of the support and the pan and the recess form an enclosure for containing the collapsible cantilevered support when the support is collapsed and pivoted about its pivotal mounting and the pan is pivoted about its pivotal attachment to the support. When the support is collapsed and the pan pivoted, the pan's peripheral edge abuts the spare tire rim flange enclosing the support and any attachments on the support between the pan and the spare tire rim. The spare tire rim could, in one embodiment, be replaced by a portable housing having a carrying handle attached to it.

Abstract: An outdoor cooking grill has a U-shaped support stand comprising a horizontal carrier beam attached to the upper ends of vertical legs; first and second fire grills are suspended from the horizontal carrier beam and are held together by clip connectors so that food, such as meat, is retained between the grill members. First and second fire grates are provided on opposite sides of the grill with each fire grate having one side supported by brackets on the vertical post with the other side being supported by a movable grate connected at an opposite end to an anchor block resting on the ground. Movement of the anchor block toward or away from the grill serves to position the fire grate inwardly or outwardly with respect to the food on the grate to adjust the cooking rate.

Abstract: A portable barbecue grill which can be folded together to form a very flat package and the grill portion of which can be adjusted in different distances from the fuel tray. The device comprises a frame, two U-shaped double legs and two guide rails which can be folded parallel to the frame. It further comprises a rotisserie bar being capable of being inserted in the guide rails when in the unfolded position and by which the grill portion can be moved upwardly and downwardly with the aid of two chains.

Abstract: A cooking apparatus for barbecuing or smoking includes a cooking container, a support collar, and a support base which are removably secured together. The support base and the cooking container are each provided with a central air opening, and the cooking container and the support base are clamped against the support collar by a stud which extends through the air openings. The clamping force provided by the stud is transmitted to the cooking container and to the support base by compressible and resilient spring plates within the cooking container and the support base, and each spring plate is provided with an air passage to permit air to flow from the base, through the central air openings, and into the cooking container. A burner assembly may be removably secured to the spring plate in the cooking container by the stud.
