Abstract: By combining a fluoroscein-based dye with a mercaptan based permanent waving composition and maintaining the pH of the resulting composition between about 2.5 and 4.5, a composition is achieved which simultaneously colors and permanently waves the hair. In addition, even if no coloring or dyeing of the hair is desired, the use of a colorless or complimentary fluoroscein-based dye with the mercaptan based permanent waving composition achieves a composition which imparts a substantially improved curl configuration to the hair as well as substantially longer lasting curls. Preferably, the mercaptan based permanent waving composition employed comprises an ester of either thioglycolic acid, thiolactic acid, or the amide of 2-aminoethanethiol.

Abstract: Artificial human hair follicles which encapsulate human hair ends and used for hair implantation. Human hairs are cleansed, the ends are then primed with a suitable silicone primer and up to two coatings are provided in order to form thereon a human hair follicle emulation that will be effacatious for the implantation of the treated hairs into the human derma. The artificial follicled human hairs may be implanted individually or in bundles of up to fourteen hairs with each hair strand and each bundle provided with a follicle-emulating bulbous root. In the preparation protocol, a single hair strand is first cleansed, the end is primed to receive a silicone polymer coating, a first coating is applied and before complete cure of the first coating, a second coating comprising a bulbous silicone elatomeric follicle is applied in such a fashion that the first coating will extend for a predetermined distance beyond the artificial follicle.
Abstract: A hairpiece is attached and fitted by first removing from the scalp of the wearer, a length of the wearer's natural hair along a band below the wearer's natural hair line, and attaching the hairpiece along the band of removed hair in order to produce a long-term and closely fitting securement of the hairpiece to the scalp. Preferably, the band of removed natural hair extends along a generally circumferential length around the wearer's scalp while retaining a small amount of short strands of the natural hair within the band to promote bonded adhesion of the hairpiece foundation along the band.
Abstract: Artificial hair for hair-implantation, which is composed of a monofilament of a synthetic resin, wherein amorphous silver is adhered in spots to the surface of the monofilament by vacuum depositing said silver of the monofilament.
Abstract: A method for lengthening of normal hair includes the preparation of filaments which match the color of the normal hair, the attachment of the filaments to the normal hair by braiding the filaments with portions of normal hair, wrapping the braids with portions of filaments and applying a heat hardenable sealer to the wrapped braid. Heat is applied to the wrapped braid using an apparatus which includes a pair of tip members which are adapted for mounting on the arms of a conventional heated curling iron. The tip members include pointed portions and opposing flat surfaces which facilitate the application of heat to limited and selected areas.
Abstract: A wig including an artificial scalp portion and artificial hair planted thereon. The scalp portion and hair are both composed of fiber filaments formed of a fine powder of a single type or composite type of inorganic or organic substance with excellent heat releasing characteristics and of synthetic fibers, natural fibers, natural hair or regenerated fibers. The fine powder is mixed in the fibers, or those fibers are coated with the powder, using a synthetic resin adhesive for obtaining the fiber filaments. The inorganic powder may be a metallic powder including copper, titanium oxide, aluminum iron, zirconium or ceramic as the primary component, and organic powder may be a powder having synthetic resins or natural fibers as the primary components.
Abstract: A method of securing hair to patches of skin which includes applying a film of medical adhesive and before it dries to press the ends of the hair into the film. Applying a second sealing film of medical adhesive and allowing it to dry. Applying a layer of Flexible Collodion.
Abstract: A process for lengthening the hair of persons having short hair and for thickening the hair for those having a relatively snall amount of hair, which process comprises the steps of aligning supplemental hair with the natural hair, adhering the supplemental hair to the natural hair utilizing a colored thermpolastic glue, intertwining the warm adhered natural and supplemental hair together to permit a binding of the supplemental to the natural hair, and then styling the combined hair. A technique for preparing the thermoplastic glue is also disclosed.
Abstract: A hair ornament and method of manufacturing such hair ornament comprising a plurality of spaced fiber strands each composed of a number of gradually curled synthetic fibers laid parallel to each other. Each of the fiber strands has a formed portion in which fibers extending toward one end thereof are spread horizontally and bent while being partly overlapped. The formed portions of the fiber strands are partly superposed on adjacent ones and arranged into a bowl-shaped configuration as a whole, the fibers including adjacent fibers fixed to each other by an adhesive applied over the entire area of the hair ornament and fixing the fibers in the formed shape.
Abstract: A matted (delustered) artificial hair which is disclosed herein comprises a fiber made of a synthetic resin. A large number of irregular scrubbed flaws is formed circumferentially on the surface of a monofilament having a substantially circular section. A method for preparation of such an artificial hair which method comprises placing a bundle of monofilaments of a synthetic fiber and each having a substantially circular section between two abrasive-coated plates each having a soft layer on a surface thereof, and allowing the two abrasive-coated plates to reciprocate in the opposite directions at an angle of 45.degree. to 90.degree. with respect to the longitudinal direction of the monofilament while applying a slight pressure in the presence of an abrasive, whereby a large number of scrubbed flaws is formed circumferentially on the surface of each monofilament.
Abstract: Heretofore it has not been fully appreciated that in order to make a hairpiece undetectable it must be possible to position the hairpiece on the head of the wearer with a precision which is nothing short of incredible. However, once correct positioning has been achieved, other factors which were previously thought to affect detectability turn out to be relatively unimportant.A removable rigid mask is fabricated to partially cover and precisely fit the temples and forehead of the hairpiece wearer. A transferable marking is placed on the wearer's head along the base or edge of the hairpiece, and the marking is transferred to the rigid mask. The mask is then cut along the marking, and the edge of the resulting cut mask is utilized to align with the base or edge of the hairpiece to provide a simple, rapid, and precise method for repeatably putting on the hairpiece with the precision required to make the hairpiece appear natural and undetectable.
