Patent number: 5921253Abstract: A method and device for making a weft of a weaving for wigs is disclosed. The method and device makes the weft mechanically, thus uniformly forming wig strands supported by the weft. Both the wig strands, forming the warps of the weaving, and the weaving yarns, forming the weft of the weaving, are made of the same material, such as human hair or synthetic resin material, so that there is no heterogeneity between them and this allows wearers of wigs to have a soft and comfortable feeling. Such weft is made by using an automatic machine without applying any bonding agent on the weaving or sewing the weaving using a sewing machine. Therefore, wigs can produced in commercial quantity while conserving labor cost.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1998Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Inventor: Ho-Taeg Jeong

Patent number: 5868145Abstract: Disclosed is an improved hair extension and thickening process which reduces shedding, resists physical and chemical degradation, and which, further, provides for safely, easily, and cleanly removing the supplemental hair from the natural hair. A weft of natural or synthetic supplemental hair is suspended upon a mounting surface. A small bundle of supplemental hair is segregated from the weft. A liquid latex is applied thereto, and the latex is twisted into it so that the supplemental hair is thoroughly coated, intertwined, and bonded together at the junction so formed. Cyanoacrylate adhesive is applied to further bond the bundle of supplemental hair. The supplemental bundles are then permanently separated from the weft. The supplemental bundle may later be bonded to a person's natural hair through the use of a hot melt acrylic adhesive. Release and separation of the supplemental bundle from the person's natural hair is conveniently, safely, and cleanly obtained through the use of acetone.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1998Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Inventor: Carolyn H. Patent number: 5406971Abstract: A hair replacement device is constructed from hollow, polyurethane tubing reinforced with copper wire to prevent stretching and to allow the device to be molded, and re-molded, to conform to the contours of the scalp. The copper wire is coated with a flesh color substance. The device defines a peripheral segment and longitudinal and lateral tubing intertwined and glued at intersecting areas to form a generally basket shaped device. Hair is conventionally attached to the plastic tubing, and a skin panel insert may be added where desired. The hair of an individual may be draw through the open framework and blended with the hair attached to the device.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1993Date of Patent: April 18, 1995Assignee: Taylor Topper, Inc.Inventor: Greg A. Patent number: 5218977Abstract: A wig-like cool cap wherein an artificial hair is implanted to an artificial scalp portion. The artificial hair is composed of carbon fiber or fine thread form comprising twisted plural carbon fibers, while the artificial scalp portion comprises a central network portion (1) and an outer surrounding membranous portion (2). The central network portion (1) is composed of carbon fiber or fine thread form comprising twisted plural carbon fibers and is constructed in a network. The outer surrounding membranous portion (2) is arranged at an outer circumference of the central network portion and has a plurality of micropores. Because carbon fiber has very large coefficient of thermal conductivity and is superior in heat-releasing characteristic, it can prevent stuffiness and sweat peculiar to conventional wigs. Further, because carbon fiber is superior in resistance against chemicals, hair care products, coloring reagent and the like can be freely used.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1991Date of Patent: June 15, 1993Inventor: Masakatsu Takahashi

Patent number: 5188639Abstract: By combining a fluoroscein-based dye with a mercaptan based permanent waving composition and maintaining the pH of the resulting composition between about 2.5 and 4.5, a composition is achieved which simultaneously colors and permanently waves the hair. In addition, even if no coloring or dying of the hair is desired, the use of a colorless or complimentary fluoroscein-based dye with the mercaptan based permanent waving composition achieves a composition which imparts a substantially improved curl configuration to the hair as well as substantially longer lasting curls. Preferably, the mercaptan based permanent waving composition employed comprises an ester of either thioglycolic acid, thiolactic acid, or the amide of 2-aminoethanethiol.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1992Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: Shiseido Co., Ltd.Inventors: Thomas M. Patent number: 5154195Abstract: A method of attaching a hairpiece and a hairpiece attaching element are disclosed. The method has the steps of: providing an anchor around the outer periphery of a hairpiece body and the hairpiece attaching element which includes a core and a cover slidably fitting on the core, the core having a first engagement means engaging the anchor and a second engagement means engaging bundles of a plurality of natural growing hairs growing from the head of a wearer; engaging the anchor with the first engagement means; and then moving the cover so that the bundles of natural growing hairs engage the second engagement means so as to cover the natural growing hairs engaging the core and retain the engagement of the natural growing hairs.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1990Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: Hexa Process CorporationInventor: Manabu Irisawa

Patent number: 5133370Abstract: A method for constructing a capillary prosthesis, toupee or other form of hairpiece which conforms to the shape, exactly, of the cranium of the head of the person who is intending to wear it comprising:a) preparing a negative mold from plaster of paris or the like, on the cranium, and allowing it to cure;b) preparing a positive mold from the negative and allowing it likewise to cure;c) placing on the positive a thermosetting sheet of plastic and applying heat and pressure to form the plastic to the configuration of the positive and trimming the excess plastic to thereby accomplish a first sjablon;d) fitting the sjablon to the cranium of the person and ascertaining the high and low spots thereon;e) using the sjablon in modifying the positive to neutralize high and low areas and making a subsequent sjablon, or sjablons, as necessary until no high or low areas are noted upon refitting on the cranium of the person;f) affixing hair to the final sjablon so that there is produced a hairpiece which may be press-vacuuType: GrantFiled: August 8, 1989Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Inventor: Dale L. Patent number: 5121761Abstract: The methodd provides for the attachment of extensions or wefts of hair to the naturally growing hair of a person. First, the location of where the extension is to be attached to the person is determined. Then, the hair is parted along that location. The hair along the part is gathered together in small clumps. A crimpable anchor device is located onto each clump of hair. Each anchor device is positioned along the respective hair clump to a position near the scalp of the person. The anchor devices are crimped so as to secure their positions. Then, the extension is sewn to the clumps of hair using needle and thread. The needle and thread pass through the respective clumps at locations between the anchor devices and the scalp. The naturally growing hair is allowed to fall in place so as to cover the points of attachment.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1990Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Inventor: Karen L. Meister

Patent number: 5107867Abstract: A reversible process for attaching permanent extensions to human hair in which strands of supplemental hair are joined with a thermostable adhesive to form a plug of supplemental hair, a coating of thermosetting adhesive is applied over the thermostable adhesive and cured, strands of the person's natural hair are threaded through a section of heat shrinkable tubing, the plug of supplemental hair is inserted into the heat shrinkable tubing, and heat is applied to the heat shrinkable tubing so that the thermosetting adhesive liquifies and joins the plug of supplemental hair and natural hair, and the heat shrinkable tubing shrinks in size to compress and seal the junction. The permanent extension can be removed by reapplication of heat to the heat shrinkable tubing.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1991Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Inventor: Mark C. Barrington
