The hair retainer has one end engageable with and disengageable from one end of base plate. The lugs (4, 104) are effective to render the hair clip more retentive on the user's hair. The hair retainer (2, 102) can swing or slide relative to the base plate (1, 101) so as to expose and use the comb-tooth-shaped lugs (4, 104) as a hair brush or as a comb, with the hair retainer then serving as a handgrip.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for styling hair includes a latch mechanism for releasably securing a hair styling device about a plurality of hair strands. The latch mechanism is adapted to interconnect first and second pivotally interconnected elongated members of the hair styling device and includes a first latch member disposed substantially adjacent a first end of the first elongated member and a second latch member disposed substantially adjacent a first end of the second elongated member. The first and second latch members are adapted to releasably engage one another. At least one of the first and second elongated latch is elastically deformable. In the preferred embodiment, each of the latch members includes a first segment having a free end spaced apart from an adjacent surface of its respective elongated member. Each free end cooperates with the adjacent surface to define an opening therebetween.

One of the elongated members has a plurality of separating members that extend toward the other elongated member when in a closed operative condition. These separating members are operable for separating the strands of hair captured between the two elongated members.

Abstract: A hair clip includes a base plate (1) secured to an ornamental cover and a pair of hooking arms (13) extending from the base plate, in which each arm has an extension protruding from an outer edge at the base portion of the arm. The extensions (13c) come into a sliding contact with an engaging part (4b) of a hair retainer (4) when it is moved towards its closed position. A shackling member (15) is provided for holding the hooking arms (13) at their overlapping position even after the arms have been unlatched. The hair clip further has a restoring member (14) which urges the shackling member (15) to return to its another position where the arms are freed, when the hair retainer (4) is opened such that the engaging part (4b) can no longer be latched by the hooking arms (13). Such a mechanism makes easier the unlatching of the hair clip, which is simple in structure and easy to manufacture and assemble.

The first member has at one end, a pair of laterally formed first hinge rings, the other end a roughly rectangular lock having an off-center receiving space with a pair of superposed catchs therein and three rows of the pyramid shaped projections on the inward periphery extending along longitudinal direction. The second member has at one end a single hinge ring, the other end a rectangular hasp and a two, oppositely formed "S" shapes which are connected at one end to form a closed elongate elastic plate extended downwards from the under side forming a multiple elastic region thereinbetween. This disclosure has been characterized in a stepped locking means and a multiple elastic region that provide selective engagement enabling the barrette serving for different hair bundles in varied styles.

The framework is a thin flexible sheetlike material presenting a plurality of openings for receiving a fabric garland therein. Multiple frameworks may be used with the same clasp to permit ready substitution of different fabric garlands as desired by the user.

Abstract: The closure of a hair clip comprises two curvilinear pressure tangs which are mobile relative to each other in the longitudinal direction. Their end parts overlap to define an overlap area. The two tangs are linked together in the overlap area to form a continuous loop facing a baseplate of the closure. A hair clip incorporating a mount of this type is easily adjusted in position and the hair is better distributed within it.

Abstract: An arched hairclip comprises generally an elongate base piece and an elongate tongue piece in arcuate form and pivotally connected with one of their corresponding ends. The base piece has on one end a retainer and the other end a pair of hinge rings. The tongue piece has on one end a buckle member and the other end a pair of the hinge pins, an undulated spring strip integral with and underneath the tongue piece has a cylinder member on free end which displaceably stops against the inward wall of the buckle member providing a great flexibility to the hairclip. This disclosure has been characterized in the adjustable function which prevents a hair bundle therein from being broken by the shearing action and protects the hairclip from sliding off a hair bundle.

Abstract: Disclosed is a spiral spring hair barrette assembly, useful for holding ponytails and other decorative hair configurations. The barrette consists of the combination of a comb and a flat spiral spring to which the comb is attached. The spiral spring has an inside and outside surface such that when the barrette spring is coiled, the inside surface coils around the ponytail being held. Projecting from the inside surface are combed teeth which also fix the barrette in place relative to the hair. The barrette is decoratively covered with fabric of various designs and materials.

Abstract: A partial wig has a fabric support to which the hairs of the wig are secured, the support being semi-circular with a diametrical straight edge. A barrette anchorage member comprises a folded over fabric defining a conduit extending along the straight edge of and stitched to the wig support. The conduit receives a spring member of a hair barrette having a base plate to which an ornamental bow is secured and a hair retainer which rotatably latches to the base plate with the spring and anchorage members sandwiched therebetween. The spring member resiliently engages a slot of the retainer, locking the hair of a wearer and the anchorage member in place. Different barrettes may be used with the same wig and anchorage member assembly or different wigs or head covers such as veils with their attached anchorage members may be used with the same or different barrettes in interchangeable relation.

Abstract: A hairdressing apparatus includes a clamp having a pair of ribs which are pivotally connected at a lower end and adjustably releasably connected at an upper end, to grip hair therebetween. A comb portion includes a back with teeth projecting therefrom, and upper and lower legs projecting from the ends of the back parallel to the teeth. The projecting ends of the comb legs are releasably connected to the upper and lower ends of the clamp portion to secure the comb portion and clamp portion together. A method for styling hair utilizing the hairdressing apparatus includes the initial step of brushing the hair rearwardly to form a ponytail having long and short hair strands. The clamp portion of the hairdressing apparatus is then clamped on the ponytail at a location to grip both the long and short hair strands, and spaced away from the head. The end of the ponytail is then rolled towards the head, the roll being parallel to the clamp apparatus, until the clamp apparatus is wrapped into the roll.

Abstract: A barette for clipping hair made entirely from metal stampings comprises an elongate arcuate first clamp member and second clamp member. The first clamp member has a folded section formed on either end thereof by folding over the terminal end portions of the sheet metal blank from which the member is formed. As embossed raised portion formed centrally on each folded section defines a receiving space therein for a hinge insert and locking insert. A pair of elongate extensions formed on the hinge insert enable pivotable attachment to a corresponding end of the second clamp member, and a pair of elastic extensions on the locking insert enable releasable securement with a hasp provided on the opposing end of the second clamp member. Retaining appendages formed on the base of both the hinge insert and locking insert engage corresponding mating surfaces provided on their respective folded sections to fixedly secure the inserts in the receiving spaces after sliding insertion therein.

Abstract: A barrette comprises an elongate, arched holder made from a plastic strip and an elongate, arched metal clip member. The holder has embossed end portions which are folded against the concave side of the holder and held in place by clamping tabs extending from the longitudinal edges thereon, with each folded end portion having a raised embossment defining a receiving cavity with an L shaped entrance slit around a periphery thereon. Opposing end portions of the clip member are inserted laterally into corresponding cavities on the holder and retained therein by cooperating snap appendages and engagement surfaces including a protruding catch on each end portion of the clip member which engages a rectangular aperture on a corresponding raised embossment. Further securement is provided by an inclined catch on the inner terminal edge of each folded end portion which snap engages a corresponding aperture on the clip member.

A modification of the invention includes the sheath formed with a tubular chamber filled with a temperature sensitive liquid crystal to effect visual color change in response to ambient temperature. A further hair band organization utilizes a clasp member, wherein the clasp member includes a flexible arcuate top plate spaced from a bottom latch plate, with the latch plate including a medial friction plate equivalent to the hair band formed with bifurcated end and a central body mounting a resilient sleeve thereabout to provide frictional engagement between the medial friction plate and the bottom latch plate when in an assembled configuration.

In other embodiments, the hair of the wearer serves as the beard of an ornament having a Santa Claus or other bearded character theme. Still further embodiments incorporate the wearer's hair as the grass skirt of a hula doll, as the tail of a pony, as the feathers of a bird, and so on. Abstract: A hair barrette designed to receive in releasably locking fashion an ornamental pin normally only attachable to a person's clothes. The hair barrette features a main body with an aperture formed at one or both ends with each aperture being dimensioned to receive a pivot pin clasp or pivot post of an ornamental pin. The ornamental pin is affixed to the hair barrette by inserting the pivot pin and pivot post of the ornamental pin through an aperture and inserting the pivot pin clasp of the ornamental pin through either another aperture or a slot formed in the main body. The pivot pin is then pivoted into attachment with the pivot pin clasp. Between the two apertures is positioned a bridge member which bends the pivot pin slightly outward so as to enhance the holding power of the pivot pin clasp.

Abstract: A decorative baby hair piece has a decorative adornment of embroidered ribbon attached to a lace backing element or a large bow without the backing element and a hair lock attached with glue to the decorative adornment. The hair lock includes two elongated, flexible, plastic strips having ends laser welded together and opposite ends left open. The open ends facilitate positioning baby hair between opposing surfaces of the two strips. Elongated male and female flexible plastic elements having corresponding lock forming shapes are formed integrally with the two strips and coact when pressed together to form a zipper type lock. Thus, with baby hair positioned across the male and female locking elements and the plastic strips pressed together to zip lock the locking elements together, the hair and the strips are simultaneously locked together for securing the decorative baby hair piece to the baby's hair.
