  • Patent number: 6050274
Abstract: A unitary applicator formed in a single mold, which may be formed with the container, filled, sealed and ready for packaging and shipping at a lower cost. The applicator head may also be manufactured for later attachment to a container, such as by fusing, welding or bonding, or by preconstructed mechanical connectors. A mold with movable parts allows construction of the applicator with two shots of material. The first shot forms structural parts of the applicator and container, and a subsequent shot of softer material forms the applicator surfaces. In addition, non-slip surfaces may be formed by the second shot on parts of the container that is hand held during applications of the flowable material to skin or other substrates or surfaces. The use of non-open cell materials to form the contact surface improves hygiene by reducing contamination of the applicator. The reduction of dead space in the cap minimizes waste by allowing almost all of the contents to be dispensed.

  • Patent number: 5881743
Abstract: A co-molded makeup applicator assembly includes a resilient body and a rigid handle cover. The generally elongated and unitarily molded body is formed of a resilient material. The body has a first end and a second end, at least one of the first and second ends defining an applicator for applying makeup. The handle cover is co-molded over a portion of the body and is formed of generally rigid material. The handle cover cooperates with the body to form an integral handle and applicator assembly. Preferably, the handle cover is substantially coextensive with the body between the ends thereof and defines at least one longitudinally extending slot through which a portion of the body extends to facilitate non-slip grasping of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 5860432
Abstract: A brush (200) has a straight stem (201) defining a main axis (X-X), a flexible core (202) having a first end integral with the stem and bristles (204) implanted radially in the core. The ends of the bristles define the surface (205) of the brush, this surface having a first face. The intersection of any meridian plane passing through the main axis with the surface of the brush defines two peak lines (207) having a specific curvature. The core is curved, the peak lines (207) are concave and the first face (207.1) is substantially straight and parallel to the main axis (X-X).

  • Patent number: 5853012
Abstract: In a cosmetic applicator, a first resilient member having a first density is provided and includes a tip end, an exterior surface and a lower end. A second resilient member having a second density for retaining and depositing a cosmetic material is coupled to the first resilient member. The cosmetic applicator also prevents contamination of the user's hands by cosmetic material by providing an interior area defined by the first resilient member for receiving at least two fingers of the user. Alternatively, the first and second resilient members can be mounted on or in a sleeve that can be manipulated either by the user grasping the sleeve's exterior surface, or sliding at least two fingers into an interior area defined by the sleeve. A cap containing a cutter for trimming a tip portion of both the first and second resilient members can also be provided, thereby allowing the user to obtain a fresh clean application surface when desired.

  • Patent number: 5850664
Abstract: A device for the application and manipulation of paint includes a handle having a distal end and a proximal end and a working tip. The working tip is comprised of a flexible, polymer material and has a proximal end that includes structure defining at least one aperture or channel. A cavity is located at the distal end of the handle into which the proximal end of the working tip is inserted. The working tip is secured in the cavity by a flowable adhesive material which at least partially penetrates the aperture or channel prior to curing. The cured adhesive material adheres to at least a portion of an interior surface of the cavity and forms solid pins in the apertures or corresponding ridges in the channels of the proximal end of the working tip, thereby securing the working tip within the cavity. Methods for creating a device in accordance with the present invention, either with or without a ferrule are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5845659
Abstract: A lotion applicator, particularly adapted for applying suntan lotion or oil to the body of a user, includes an elongated handle in which a supply of lotion is stored and a cylindrically shaped sponge roller which facilitates an even distribution of lotion over the user's body. Lotion is delivered to the sponge roller by a plurality of freely rotatable applicator balls which are in communication with a reservoir of lotion. The balls are provided with grooves which allow them to more efficiently deliver lotion to the sponge roller, and the rotatable movement of the sponge roller effects the concurrent rotation of the applicator balls so as to maintain a continuous supply of lotion to the roller. The handle of the applicator is provided with a flexible neck portion which allows the handle to be angularly adjusted relative to the roller to thus increase the capability of the user to apply lotion to hard-to-reach areas of his or her body.

  • Patent number: 5842488
Abstract: The invention is a folding lotion applicator for applying liquids, lotions, and other materials to hard-to-reach places on the user's body. The applicator includes an elongated applicator handle for griping. The applicator handle is pivotally connected to an elongated pivot arm which extends from the applicator handle and includes an opposing applicator end with a pad for applying lotions. The pivot arm can be pivoted to a plurality of pre-determined pivot angles wherein a biasing member/tightening nut is employed to urge the pivot arm against the applicator handle wherein opposing detent surfaces interengage thereby locking the pivot arm in the desired or selected pivot angle. A portion of the applicator handle is formed to define a receiving seat to receive the pivot arm when it is completely folded adjacent to the applicator handle. In this way, the lotion applicator can assume a compact arrangement suitable for situations where economy of space is desirable.
