  • Patent number: 7140376
Abstract: A collapsible shade structure includes a plurality of foldable frame members each having a folded and an unfolded orientation. A fabric material is provided for substantially covering the frame members to form a side panel for each frame member, each side panel assuming the unfolded orientation of its associated frame member. Interconnecting portions of the fabric material form a hinge portion between each frame member. Alternatively, frame retaining sleeve portions may be used to interconnect and retain two or more frame members from two or more adjacent side panels and to act as hinge portions. The structure may be folded and stored by folding the side panels and their corresponding frame members on top of each other about the hinge portions to have the side panels and frame members overlying each other.

  • Patent number: 7077147
Abstract: A collapsible and foldable canvas structure has only two structural panels, each formed by a piece of fabric material spread across and secured about its periphery to a resiliently flexible wire frame. One of the panels is laid flat on the ground or other supporting surface; the other rises vertically from a median section of the first and is held by straps or by sheets of fabric material not structured or framed by any wire but joined to the top of the vertical panel and to the outer edges of the flat one. A window cut on the center of the vertical panel provides access from one side to the other. The panels are substantially commensurate. They can be brought back together and twisted along with the remaining components of the structure into a compact package.

  • Patent number: 7059094
Abstract: A frame structure has a structural unit containing six elongated posts, each post having first and second ends, the structural unit capable of having at least an unfolded state where the six posts are substantially contained in one plane and a folded state where the six posts extend substantially parallel to each other. The frame structure has post-midpoint joints formed in each of the posts for supporting the posts of the structural unit foldably at approximate midpoints of the posts; a central joint for supporting the posts of the structural unit at the first ends of each of the posts rotatably in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the unfolded state. The six posts of the structural unit are positioned in the unfolded state such that the posts extend radially from the central joint within substantially one plane, so that a line connecting the second ends of the six posts of the structural unit forms substantially an equilateral hexagon.

  • Patent number: 6941704
Abstract: A deployable structure includes a structural mechanism consisting of a plurality of rigid links 1 connected together by rotational joints 2 to form an array of Bennett linkages 20. The Bennett linkages 20 are interconnected so that the structural mechanism, including all the Bennett linkages 20, has a single degree of mobility. The structural mechanism has a profile with a curvature that varies during movement to deploy the structure from a state in which its profile is flat to a state in which its profile is curved. This allows is very convenient as the structure may be assembled, stored and/or transported in the flat state, prior to deployment into the curved state. As such the structure has many application including the frame for a tent.

  • Patent number: 6892743
Abstract: A portable, modular greenhouse system that can be used to protect plants from harsh conditions. A green house according to the invention comprises a frame and a cover. The frame preferably comprises at least one panel constructed from a mesh of rigid wire, with a spacing between adjacent wires which is large enough to permit a gardener's hand to pass therethrough. The panels are preferably flexible and resilient, so that they return to their original shape after being bent. The cover preferably has sleeves formed in opposite edges thereof. Slats may be inserted into the sleeves, so that when the cover is on the frame the slats are located near the bottom of the frame, thereby weighing down the cover to keep it in place. The ends of the slats may be inserted through the mesh of the panels to further secure the cover to the frame.

  • Patent number: 6879317
Abstract: A collapsible data entry panel comprises, an upper layer of flexible sheet material having formed keys on its outer surface and conductive areas or contacts on its inner surface, a lower layer of flexible sheet material having conductive circuits or traces on its inner surface, and resilient, flexible frame around the peripheral margins of the sheet material layers that pulls the layers taut so that they are parallel to and spaced apart from one another. Depression of a formed key will cause a corresponding, underlying contact to connect with the conductive trace carried by the lower layer, and thereby complete a circuit representative of the depressed key. The data entry panel of the invention is collapsible to a surface area less than ½ of its extended configuration by twisting the respective ends of the panel in opposite directions, while applying a slight inward pressure. In its collapsed configuration, the panel can readily fit into a shirt pocket or purse.
