  • Patent number: 6945279
Abstract: An impermeable rubber hose is thinned for the purpose of reducing weight and costs. A rigid resin film is used as an intermediate layer. When the resin film is gradually rolled up into a cylindrical shape from a planar shape and fed to an extrusion head and rubber is simultaneously extrusion-molded inside and outside the cylindrical film, the film produces a break or a twist to make extrusion molding difficult. It is an object of the present invention to make simultaneous extrusion molding possible even in such a condition. To attain the above object, a thermoplastic resin film (5) which forms an intermediate layer (2) and of which the melting point is lower than the vulcanizing temperature is formed in a long belt-shape. Slits (7) are provided at fixed intervals on the right and left long side sections (8, 8) of the film (5) in the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 6942654
Abstract: An intravascular catheter having a shaft, at least a portion of which includes a braid reinforcement with an axial wire or fiber disposed between the helical members that form the braid. The axial member prevents the elongation of the shaft of the catheter thereby maintaining one-to-one correspondence in axial manipulation of the catheter, even when the shaft is placed in tension. By positioning the axial member between the helical members, the axial member does not create a protrusion and does not become fixed to any adjacent polymer layer. Thus, the axial member limits axial strain of the catheter, without creating the undesirable effects of friction caused by an axial protrusion and without creating the undesirable effects of limited flexure caused by an adjacent polymer layer becoming fixed to the axial member.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fluid conduit, and to a multi-conduit umbilical for use in the transportation of chemicals with small molecular size and shape e.g. methanol ethanol and other hydrocarbon fluids used in the oil industry. The conduit comprises a flexible fluid hose encapsulated by at least one metallized layer which is formed and arranged to minimise permeation of a fluid being transported in the fluid hose. In use in a multi-conduit umbilical the metallized layer minimises permeation into adjacent fluid hoses containing chemicals. The invention is characterized in that the fluid hose(s) have differing levels of encapsulation and thereby permeation, along a given length according to the operational requirements of the fluid conduit/umbilical. Typically such fluid conduits/umbilicals will have lengths in excess of 100 km.

Abstract: A respirator hose for connection between a ventilator and a breathing appliance during respiratory therapy includes a tubular body defining a first lumen for conveying a breathing gas from the ventilator, and a helical reinforcement member with a hollow core coiled around the tubular body to define a second lumen for conveying a second fluid in support of the respiratory therapy. The helical reinforcement member has a configuration to resist kinking and crushing of the tubular body that would close-off flow of the breathing gas. A fitting at one end of the hose can be keyed to simplify connections between the lumens and fluid communication ports of the ventilator.

Abstract: A leak-free flexible conduit and method of making the same is described. By attaching a flexible outer hose to a flexible inner hose without directly clamping the outer hose to the inner hose, the life of the inner hose is increased. Furthermore, the outer flexible hose creates a heat-resistant, airtight seal that prevents exhaust leaks from the inner flexible hose from escaping, substantially reduces the heat lost to the atmosphere, decreases the amount of vibration, reduces noise, and protects the inner flexible hose from corrosive elements and contaminants, thereby also extending the life of the inner flexible hose.
