Forming Grooves On Inner Surface Patents (Class 156/138)
  • Patent number: 5421927
Abstract: In a process for manufacturing toothed belts of any length, a tubular sleeve comprising a layer of cords (1) and at least a layer of elastomeric material (2) is preformed in an autoclave without being vulcanized so as to produce, on the inner surface thereof, a plurality of grooves (5) spaced apart from one another according to a predetermined toothing pitch (P). The sleeve is helically cut to obtain a continuous strip (7) to be subsequently wrapped over two wrapping drums (8, 9) suitably spaced apart from each other depending on the circumferential extension to be given to the belt. The obtained annular element (10), when the wrapping has been completed, is trued up by means of the provided grooves, between a molding matrix (11) and opposite mould (12) and is submitted to a pressing step and simultaneous cross-linking of the elastomeric material (2) by closing said elastomeric material between the molding matrix (11) and opposite mold (12) according to stages in succession.

Abstract: A method of producing an endless toothed belt of synthetic or plastics material, or similar extrudable material, having a wire- or thread-like reinforcing insert which extends in the circumferential direction of the belt and having a fabric cover covering the toothed side of the belt. A finite belt strand is formed in a closed mold cavity from introduced liquid plastics material and from a fabric strip which is introduced along that shaping surface of the mold cavity which forms the toothed side of the belt strand, thus coating the toothed side of the belt strand with the fabric strip. That side of the belt strand which is remote from the toothed side of the belt is provided with a plurality of grooves extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt strand.

  • Patent number: 4231826
Abstract: A cured and inverted V-belt sleeve having a plurality of spaced circumferential V-grooves that bound oversized V-belt side portions of inverted V-belts is provided by fabricating a belt sleeve with a tensile member interpositioned between inner and outer uncured elastomeric layers, skiving circumferential strips of elastomeric material from the outer layer, and molding and curing the skived belt sleeve. Individual coverless or "raw edge" V-belts or V-belts banded together at their top surfaces are provided with an optional molded circumferential depression that forms an arch in the belt bottom surfaces and juxtaposed embedded reinforcements.

  • Patent number: 4106966
Abstract: A method of making endless power transmission belts each having at least a toothed outside surface is provided by building a belt sleeve on a drum and providing a reusable tubular polymeric curing jacket having a toothed inside surface around the sleeve with the teeth thereof adjacent the sleeve and curing the sleeve with the jacket therearound while subjecting the jacket to pressure such that the toothed inside surface of the jacket defines corresponding outside teeth on the sleeve; and, upon cooling the jacket and sleeve such jacket is readily removed for reuse thereby substantially reducing the cost of providing a toothed outside surface on a belt sleeve and belts defined therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4083838
Abstract: A continuous process for making endless toothed belts using a reinforced toothed belt preform of indefinite length by spirally winding the preform around toothed wheels spaced a variable distance while fusing the spiral wraps into a belt tube. One of the wheels forms a closed arc shaped mold chamber sealed toward the outside by a molding belt with one end of the chamber sealingly closed by the entering length with the laterally exiting flexible length or tube advancing axially through the other end and cut to the desired width to form individual belts. The circumferential length is varied by varying the distance between the wheels. The preform can be accurately formed from an unfinished belt by fusing around the fixed radial distance supported reinforcement using wheels in cooperation with a closed chamber prior to forming the tube.

  • Patent number: 4078032
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating continuous lengths of cleated belting. The method includes the steps of feeding a continuous length of belting base material alternately forwardly with or over and backwardly with, a cleat positioning mold first into, then out of and then through the space between vertically moveable press platens. The cleats are assembled with and cured to the base material in longitudinally adjacent groups. Each group of raw cleats and a corresponding section of the base material is moved with the mold forwardly into the press, cured, and then moved rearwardly with the mold out from between the press platens. The cured section is separated from the mold. A new group of uncured cleats is positioned for a succeeding section. The base material, including the cured section, is moved forwardly relative to the mold until the last cured cleat of the group of cured cleats is positioned at the first of the cleat positions of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4066732
Abstract: A method of making toothed power transmission belting having preferably an elastomer-free sprocket-engaging toothed surface is described. A temperature sensitive tackifier is applied to a toothed mold surface and the belt face cover is stitched to the tacky surface, and then preferably further immobilized by winding tensile cord circumferentially about the mold. Elastomeric material is introduced into the tooth and body portions of the belt and the belting is cured. The temperature is elevated at some point during the process, whereby the tackifier loses its adherence to the mold, permitting easy demolding of the product.
