Folding Patents (Class 156/204)
  • Patent number: 8647459
Abstract: A method of preparing and applying folded leaflets or coupons to packets in a cigarette packer includes the steps of cutting single leaflets from a continuous strip material, scoring them with transverse crease lines and then causing each one to wrap around one of a set of winding members operating in conjunction with a fixed restraint; a leading portion of the leaflet is taken up by the winding member, which is then set in rotation while also revolving in close proximity to the restraint, in such a way as to bend the leaflet along the crease lines and form a succession of folds.

The novel duct will replace ducts of steel and thus have enough restraint towards flexure to be hung without any substantial flexure in connection to a mounting procedure. The advantages are a substantial reduction in price per meter of duct installed, and it makes manufacturing, handling and mounting easier as well as transportation and storing as the duct (1) can be folded or rolled in a flattened and space saving condition. The duct (1) can be bent in a mounted position, i.e. be allowed to be changed in direction having a minimum radius of about 1000 mm.

Abstract: A method/apparatus closes and finishes an open end of a product that can be fused together with heat. The apparatus includes a bending stage, a fusing stage, and a pressing/cooling stage, which all can be integrally formed, with the bending stage positioned upstream of the fusing stage, and the pressing/cooling stage positioned downstream of the fusing stage. The apparatus can further include a trimming stage positioned upstream of the bending stage for preparing the ends of a panel. The product has a pair of spaced layers with edges that form an open end. Either one or both of the layers can be heated and rolled toward the other layer while being heated so that they contact and fuse together. The layers can overlap and fuse at their contact surfaces, or the edges can abut to form a butt joint, or the edges can overlap slightly.

Abstract: A pleated filter is made from a monocomponent monolayer nonwoven web of continuous monocomponent meltspun partially crystalline and partially amorphous oriented fibers of the same polymeric composition that are bonded to form a coherent and handleable web having a Gurley Stiffness of at least 100 mg and which further may be softened while retaining orientation and fiber structure. Rows of pleats are formed in the nonwoven web, and the web is cut to a desired size and shape to provide a pleated filter element containing a self-supporting porous monocomponent monolayer matrix of fibers bonded to one another at least some points of fiber intersection and having an average initial submicron efficiency of at least 15% at a 1.52 meters/sec face velocity. The filter element is deformation resistant without requiring stiffening layers, bicomponent fibers, adhesive or other reinforcement in the filter media layer.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for tabbing a piece of folded material includes a fixture into which a folded material is manually inserted and retracted. A dispensing device automatically dispenses a length of adhesive tape that may be pinked on at least one edge, and a cutting device separates the length of pinked tape from its source. A lower platen slides below the inserted media and traps a piece of the adhesive tape between the lower platen and the media. An upper roller or sliding member moves over the opposite side of the media for folding the remaining portion of the adhesive tape over the opposite side of the media and causing good contact between the adhesive surfaces of both portions of the folded adhesive tape and the media, thereby completing the sealing action. The media then is retracted manually.

The seals are formed from folded stacks, discrete segments, or pleated material arranged to provide a resiliently compressible seal that can be located at one or more locations within the absorbent article, e.g., along a central portion of the rear waist region of a diaper. The seals may be constructed from relatively thin materials that (through folding, stacking, pleating, etc.) can provide a resiliently compressible seal that is thick enough and appropriately shaped to conform to the wearer's anatomy well enough to provide the desired sealing. At the same, time, the continuous web material used to form the seal is preferably thin enough to be economically delivered to the manufacturing line in roll form. The seals may be provided in the form of compressed seals that expand when one or more openings are formed in a sealed cavity containing compressed resilient material.
