The present method is especially advantageous where the struts of the strutted film, as a result of their method of manufacture, are not readily heat sealable. Where necessary, the method may also be applied to provide a manifold for a group of individual tubes.

    Abstract: A machine and method for applying heat shrink labels or the like to articles such as containers having cylindrical body portions and an end portion or portions adjoining the body portion and sloping inwardly therefrom. The label is secured to the article by adhesive between the leading end and the container and by adhesive between the overlapping leading end and trailing end. The label is of a width such that it projects beyond the junction or junctions of the end portion or portions with the body portion, resulting in free standing edge or edges which are then heat shrunk onto the container by heat from an external source. A tongue is interposed between the heat source and the seam at each free standing edges or edges. This tongue serves as a heat shield to moderate application of heat to the seam.

The pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tool for use on a robotic arm for applying adhesive tape around bundles of wire, cables and the like. On the application of suction, the central tube can hold a length of adhesive tape and the tool can be advanced into contact with the bundle of wires around which the tape is to be applied. On the application of pneumatic pressure, the central tube releases the tape and the pressure applied to the interior of the outer tubes advances them forwardly, against the force of a return spring.

The welding unit (14) is biased outwardly towards the wall of the tubing and is guided along the welding seam by either a guide ring (21) or a roller (20) engaging a gap (48) between adjacent tubing sections. Several degrees of freedom are provided for accommodating lack of concentricity and translation of the welding unit along the length of the tubing without moving the centering carriage.

    Abstract: In the packaging field certain types of packages are manufactured from pre-shaped, cylindrical casings made from a heat-shrinkable laminate. The casings are formed by winding a material sheet around a mandrel and subsequent sealing together of the overlapping ends of the sheet. However, because of the stiffness of the material the leading end of the sheet protrudes tangentially from the mandrel during the winding and prevents an accurate adaptation of the material sheet to the surface of the mandrel.According to the method and arrangement of this invention this disadvantage is avoided in that the leading end of the sheet is pre-heated on the side facing the mandrel to such a degree, that the shrinking is initialled. The shrinking of one side only results in that the leading end of the material sheet is given a curved shape with a radius that coincides with the radius of the mandrel, and consequently the leading end is no longer an obstacle to the winding.

Predecorated neck labels are formed from a web having a pair of cross-dimension score lines in precise location to facilitate flat folding. The neck labels preformed from the web are adapted to overlying the neck and closure of a bottle, for example, to provide a tamper-proof feature. Such labels are formed from a web by cutting a presized blank having, if desired, a partial-depth slit along the longitudinal dimension to provide a parting line, winding the blank on a mandrel while successively forming the score lines in precise location, and then overlapping the ends and seaming the same to make a tubular sleeve having precisely-formed sides adapted to uniform flat-folding. The sleeves are stripped from the forming mandrel, flat-folded and packed into tightly-nested stacks for subsequent use.

A cylindrical mould having two semi-cylindrical mould halves is formed with its inner diameter equal to the outer diameter of the plate cylinder being produced. One mould half is placed with its semi-cylindrical inner surface facing upwards and a printing plate is placed inside. Then the hollow cylinder coated with epoxy resin is placed on this plate, and the other printing plate is placed on the cylinder. The second mould half is secured to the first half, and a conical core is forced into the cylinder to expand it radially so that the plates are held under pressure against the mould surface. Then the mould is heated and the resin allowed to set under conditions of temperature and pressure.

The cover plate is castellated with peripheral teeth arcuately spaced from one another extending radially from the outer edges. The dust tube is formed from plastic sheet stock having a series of perforations adjacent one edge sized and spaced to receive the teeth of the cover plate. The sheets are wrapped onto the cover plate with the teeth projecting through the openings to form an outer cylinder. The adjacent end edges of the cylinder are heat welded or otherwise secured so that the cylinder is retained on the cover plate to form a cylindrical dust tube.

    Abstract: A stake flag consists of a segment of flagging strip adhesively secured to the end of a wire stake. The apparatus includes a roller chain conveyor, driven at a continuous rate of speed, having fixed carriers for conveying the stakes transversely in parallel spaced relation. A conveyor for a strip of flagging material carries the strip in a path coincident with the path of the wire stakes, with one end of the stakes overlying the strip. A stake hopper, with automatic release, releases stakes sequentially to the conveyor carriers; and a glue gun deposits a quantity of glue on each stake end, and on the adjacent underlying portion of the strip, to provide immediate adhesion of the stake and strip. A rotating cutter blade coacts with a backing roller to sever the flagging strip into flagging segments adhering to respective stakes; and a rotating mechanism rotates the stake in the conveyor, after severance, to fold and press the segment onto itself and onto the stake.

The panel is disposed, adhesive side down, so that approximately half of its adhesive coated surface contacts the sheet material on either side of the line defined by the uppermost of the overlapping ends.
