  • Patent number: 7169247
Abstract: A substrate of label stock or the like has pressure sensitive adhesive on one side, covered by release material. The release material is folded back or removed along one edge of the substrate, exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive along that edge. A transparent laminate is secured to the substrate by the exposed pressure sensitive adhesive. A photograph of other document can be secured inside the device by lifting the unadhered portion of the laminate, placing the photograph between the laminate and the substrate, removing the release layer to expose the remainder of the pressure sensitive adhesive layer, and pressing the photograph and laminate against the lower substrate. The photograph is preferably smaller than the laminate product, so that the laminate is secured to the substrate around all edges of the photograph.

  • Patent number: 6878223
Abstract: A prefastened absorbent garment is manufactured with its longitudinal axis in the machine direction. A web of garment chassis material extending in the machine direction is overlaid with a side panel web laying substantially within the garment chassis borders. The side panel web is attached to the chassis web and has fasteners thereon. The side panel web can be split in two and folded to place its fasteners in proximity to complementary fasteners disposed at the opposing end of the garment on the chassis web when the chassis web is folded.

  • Patent number: 6872267
Abstract: A method of producing refastenable side seams in an absorbent garment results in an absorbent garment that is adapted to easy application and removal. The refastenable side seams can be produced in either a cross direction or a machine direction. Each of the refastenable side seams is a dual side seam that includes a standing butt seam formed between a front lap seam and a back lap seam. The resulting garment can be opened and closed on either a front side of the garment or a back side of the garment.

  • Patent number: 6869494
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of achieving low tension, highly conformable elasticized areas in a nonwoven web construction such as may be suitable for the waistbands or leg openings of disposable absorbent pant garments, cuffs on sleeves of medical garments, or the like. A web, or webs, of nonwoven material which make up the substrate for the elasticized area are provided to be very light weight and flexible and provide the minimal amount of substrate to which an elastomeric liquid barrier material is affixed. The absorbent, or liquid retention, section of an absorbent garment article made according to the present invention will have its own barrier layer facing the backsheet, in order that the backsheet may be composed of a light and conformable material.

  • Patent number: 6855284
Abstract: A presently-preferred process for bending a workpiece includes placing a first portion of the workpiece on a substantially flat surface so that a second portion of the workpiece overhangs an edge of the substantially flat surface, and securing the first portion of the workpiece on the substantially flat surface by clamping the workpiece between the substantially flat surface and a substantially v-shaped end portion of a male die. The presently-preferred process also includes causing the second portion of the workpiece to pivot around a tip of the substantially v-shaped end portion by rotating a bending die around the tip while the bending die contacts the second portion of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 6846374
Abstract: A process for making a prefastened and refastenable pant includes providing a plurality of discrete articles having side panels and waist regions including an activatable retractive material. The side panels can be folded parallel to a longitudinal centerline to overlap at least portions of first and second fastening components. The fastening components are then engaged to form a prefastened and refastenable pant. The retractive material can be activated subsequent to engagement of the fastening components, or subsequent to obtaining position control of the side panels, to provide the pant with a waistband-to-hip circumference ratio of about 95 percent or less. The prefastened and refastenable pant and apparatus for its manufacture are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6843873
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gelatinous composite article. The article has a first and a second heat formable and heat reversible gelatinous elastomer material, a first permeable layer, and a control gap. Each of the gelatinous materials is a three-dimensional shape having an upper side, a base side and at least one connecting side. The first connecting side and the second connecting side are adjacent to each other so the first and second materials are essentially side-by-side within the same horizontal plane. The first permeable layer has a top side and a bottom side. The top side attaches to the first and second connecting side. The control gap is interspaced between the bottom side of the first permeable layer. This gap degrades the rigidity between each connecting side and provides an equivalent structural property throughout the article.

  • Patent number: 6844050
Abstract: A precut plate for defining an assembly of plate parts is capable of taking at least first and second shapes. A first flat shape, wherein the plate as a whole is substantially in a plane and a second folded shape, obtained after folding about hinge parts of the plate one relative to the others to define a hollow volume, for example all or part of a package for products. The plate includes at least three layers stacked on one another. The second layer located between the first and the third layer is a flexible material layer, at least the first of the two first and third layers being a relatively rigid layer. The invention also concerns the resulting volume or package, and the method for making the plate.

  • Patent number: 6833038
Abstract: A barrier sheet having a first side and a second side, a top edge, a bottom edge, and a laterally located midpoint, wherein the sheet is folded along its length to form a folded sheet defined by at least one fold with an adhesive strip positioned at a predetermined distance from the top and bottom edges, and preferably approximately at the sheet midpoint. When making a roll of barrier material, a barrier sheet material is provided and folded at least once laterally. The sheet then incorporates an adhesive strip applied to one side of the sheet at a predetermined distance from the top and bottom ends, preferably approximately at the midpoint. The adhesive strip is oriented lengthwise such that when the sheet is unrolled from the roll and unfolded, the strip will approximately bisect the sheet lengthwise. The sheet is then folded in a predetermined fashion, and rolled onto a roll.

Abstract: A device and method for producing individual folded labels having miter folded tabs includes a first cutting station for partially cutting the ribbon of labels to form a tab at each edge of the ribbon of labels and an interior base cut. The ribbon of label remains intact at a pair of connection points separating the tabs. The tabs are folded at an angle to produce a miter fold at a folding station. A second cutting station ultrasonically cuts the miter folded ribbon of labels along the connection points to subdivide the ribbon of labels into separate, individual folded labels.

Abstract: A masking tape tool/dispenser for imparting a lengthwise fold in a length of masking tape. Within the tool, the tape traverses proximate or through a plurality of tape guides for imparting the fold in the tape, such that a first lengthwise region of the adhesive surface is folded against a second lengthwise region of the adhesive surface, leaving sufficient exposed adhesive surface to permit adhesion of the folded tape to a work piece for paint overspray masking. The user can withdraw a continuous length of the folded masking tape from the dispenser, cutting the folded tape when the desired length has been withdrawn. During use, the tool can be hand-held or releasably affixed to a surface.

  • Patent number: 6824637
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a flexible curtain as disclosed and claimed. Edges of a polymeric material are folded back on themselves. A portion of the edges are secured and a portion is left unsecured or free. The flexible curtain is used in a windlocking apparatus to prevent the unwanted intrusion of wind, water and debris into a building opening. The free, or unsecured flap of the folded edge absorbs shock associated with storm disturbances. Edge rollers are used to laminate the edges of the curtains selectively such that only a portion of the edge is secured leaving the flap unsecured. Stitching, ultrasonic welding and gluing are alternative ways and/or additional ways of providing for the securement of a portion of the edge to itself. Perforations are made in the secured portion of the folded edge.
