  • Patent number: 3984592
Abstract: An improved metal foil composite sheet and method of fabricating the same for heating and/or cooling food products. Metal foil is coated on one surface with a heat stable, thermoplastic, epoxy and on its second surface with a heat resistant, dielectric, thermosetting base coat and a top coat of a heat resistant, heat absorptive, thermosetting material. The top coat may be applied in zones of distinct thicknesses simultaneously. Such application provides for legible printing, while preserving the desired heat absorptive properties on the entire foil pouch stock including both the printed and unprinted regions. A completed foil pouch composed of the foil composite sheet permits uniform heating and/or cooling of foods over an extended range of temperatures and times while resisting undesired deterioration.

  • Patent number: 3972765
Abstract: In preparing an epoxy resin laminate sheet by impregnating a nonwoven fabric of glass fiber with an epoxy resin to form a prepreg, laminating a predetermined number of so formed prepregs and pressing, while heating, the laminate, when the nonwoven fabric of glass fiber to be used as a substrate is treated with a liquid mixture containing a water-soluble phenol resin and a silane coupler prior to the impregnation step, a laminate sheet suitable for formation of a printed circuit board can be obtained at a low manufacturing cost. The so formed laminate sheet not only has excellent heat resistance, drilling workability and punching workability at room temperature but also is characterized by such an excellent property that when it is subjected to the boiling water treatment, the degree of reduction of electric properties such as the insulation resistance is very small and whitening of the substrate is not caused to occur.

  • Patent number: 3971884
Abstract: Crosslinkable ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resins are rendered amenable to forming adherent laminates with crosslinkable silicone rubber by coating the surface of the ethylene-vinyl acetate resin with a solution of a silane or a member of the class of compounds known as polyfunctional monomers prior to adhering the resin to the silicone rubber.

  • Patent number: 3971669
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of producing a carbon fiber felt which includes the steps of preparing a substantially unidirectional array of continuous carbonizable filaments in oxidized state, cross-laying other such filaments on one side of said array in a state of restraint from displacement from their cross-laid relationship, and needle-punching the resulting assembly from the same side. Also disclosed is a method of pre-sizing a high bulk, low density carbon fiber felt comprising the steps of impregnating said felt with a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin highly diluted in a solvent, and removing said solvent either before or while the assembly is being reduced to its final dimensions to leave the resin per se as a coating on the fibrous material serving to adhere individual elements together at cross-over points to prevent displacement thereof, all prior to the addition of the matrix material in which the carbon fiber is embedded to form the final composite.

  • Patent number: 3968304
Abstract: Rubber compounds are readily bonded to polyester reinforcing elements, particularly tire cords of polyester fibers, using a two-step dip process in which the first dip consists essentially of a low molecular weight polyallyl-glycidyl ether in aqueous media and the second dip consists essentially of an alkaline aqueous dispersion of a minor amount by weight of a mixture of a major amount by weight of a rubbery vinyl pyridine copolymer and a minor amount by weight of a heat reactable resinous composition. High H-adhesions are obtained with this process.

  • Patent number: 3962011
Abstract: Rubber compounds are readily bonded to nylon or polyamides, particularly tire cords of polyamides in which a high proportion of the amide linkages are attached directly to aromatic rings, using a two-step dip process in which the first dip comprises a liquid dispersion or solution of an epoxide having an average of from about two to four epoxide groups per molecule and a molecular weight up to about 600 and the second dip comprises an aqueous dispersion of a mixture of a major amount of a rubbery vinyl pyridine copolymer and a minor amount of a heat reactable 2,6-bis(2,4-dihydroxy phenylmethyl)-4-chlorophenol composition. High H-adhesions are obtained with this process. It is particularly useful for the bonding to rubber compounds of crystalline polyamides having a large number of aromatic groups in the polymeric structure, e.g., "Fiber B".

  • Patent number: 3948657
Abstract: An electrophotographic photosensitive member is produced by a method in which a photoconductive layer is provided on a base, a polymeric solventless-type liquid resin adhesive is placed between said photoconductive layer and an overlying insulating layer and, by applying pressure on said insulating layer to spread said resin, said insulating layer is secured closely to the photoconductive layer through said adhesive layer. Fine grains of photoconductive material may be dispersed in said adhesive to provide a second photoconductive layer. This invention relates to a method for producing an electrophotographic photosensitive member and further to a method for obtaining a novel photosensitive member by employing said method.

  • Patent number: 3940468
Abstract: A polyurethane pre-foam formulation having improved adhesion to polyester resins is disclosed. The polyurethane is of the type formed by the reaction of an isocyanate and a polyol together with a blowing agent. The improved formulation contains a polyester resin between about 1 and 10% by weight of the polyurethane together with a sufficient amount of a free radical catalyst to bring about a cure of the added polyester resin. Preferably, the improved polyurethane prefoam is foamed and cross-linked in contact with a partially uncured but gelled unsaturated polyester laminating resin which contains an unsaturated monomer such as styrene. When such a polyester and a polyurethane foam are cured together, a superior bond between them results when the polyurethane formulation is compounded in accordance with the teachings of the present invention.
