A counterbalance (4) is mounted on the head (1, 5, 16) opposite the chuck (6) on axle (8) comprising a weight (2) movable towards and away from the axis (A) and a roller (26) urged by a spring (24) against the outermost layer (28a) of the tape on reel (28) thereby detecting the diameter of tape carried by the reel (28) thus to move the weight (2) to a position to substantially counterbalance the reel as it rotates.

  • Patent number: 5354410
Abstract: A tape applicator for application of a double-sided adhesive tape to a member which can be cut and assembled to form a frame for glazing for a skylight, a window or a door. The tape applicator includes a spindle for accepting a plurality of rolls of tape and apparatus for guiding the frame member past the roll of tape to permit accurate and dependable application of the tape to the frame member. A spring mounted block urges the tape into tight, adhesively bonded relation with the frame member at the desired location. The guiding apparatus is removable to allow selection and installation of an appropriate guiding apparatus configured to accept the cross-sectional size and shape of the particular frame member to which it is desired to apply tape. A wall acts as a stop to align the tape with the frame member. When the tape from a particular roll has been exhausted, the remaining core can be pushed past the wall into a recess to allow advancement of the next available roll into position.

  • Patent number: 5338384
Abstract: A tape head apparatus for applying sealing tape to cartons moving thereunder on a conveyor has rollers as part of roller assemblies for rolling the tape under pressure onto the leading face, top surface, and trailing face of the carton. The rollers, assemblies, which are carried on a support frame, and are biased toward their extended position, with the biasing force creating the pressure of the rollers on the tape and the carton. The biasing force is augmented by a pressure enhancer which is actuated while the rollers are applying the tape to the top surface, and the augmented force remains until the tape has been applied to the trailing face of the carton. A cutter cuts the tape prior to its application to the trailing face, leaving a length of unapplied tape sufficient to apply to the trailing face.

  • Patent number: 5294281
Abstract: A chuck (4) grasping the front edge of a tire component material (S) which is supplied from a material feeder (3) generates a motional locus through an initial ascending motion and through a forward motion toward the former and through a subsequent descending motion to the former to lay the front edge onto the carcass (T). A pressing mechanism (6) operates to press the introduced material (S) on the carcass (T), and concurrently the former (2) rotates by a predetermined rotation angle to adhere the tire component material (S) onto the carcass (T). Thereafter a cutter assembly (5) operates to cut the tire component material (S) in a length corresponding to the sum of a required length for joint and a full circumferential length of the carcass. The former (2) rotates again to adhere the tire component material (S) onto the full circumference of the carcass (T), and the front edge and a last edge of the tire component material are jointed by the pressing mechanism (6) so that the adhesion is completed.

  • Patent number: 5156859
Abstract: An apparatus for bending a laminated thermoplastic sheet without displacing the lamina relative to one another includes a clamp which functions to hold the sheet during the bending procedure. A support is disposed adjacent the clamp and has a curved surface for forming a bend in the sheet and a flat surface which constitutes an abutment for the part of the sheet being bent. The support is adjustable to vary the angle of bending. A bending device for the sheet comprises a carriage having a bending roller, and a ram whose size approximates that of the flat abutment surface. The sheet is clamped with a portion thereof projecting freely above the flat abutment surface and heated. The bending roller thereupon forces the sheet against the curved surface to bend the sheet and then moves across the projecting portion of the sheet to urge such portion into engagement with the flat abutment surface.
