Patent number: 11249338Abstract: A laminating machine and process for applying an optically clear adhesive film to a glass substrate includes a porous belt assembly with a plurality of vacuum pumps. The vacuum pumps define different, separately adjustable vacuum zones on the surface of the porous belt. The porous belt is driven linearly so that an optically clear adhesive does not move relative to the porous belt, but does move relative to the table, allowing the adhesive to be controlled to a compressive, neutral, or tensile state while being nip-rolled to the substrate. Since there is no motion of the film relative to the belt, scratching, stretch elongation, dimensional errors, and other slip induced damage is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2019Date of Patent: February 15, 2022Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.Inventors: Cameron T. Patent number: 6877540Abstract: An apparatus and device for fusing two or more foam components together by thermal welding, has an interface blade adapted for placement at an interface of foam components to be fused together, and a nozzle proximate to the interface blade for distributing a heated gas at the interface of the foam components. The nozzle may be located in a shroud proximate to the interface blade. An automated foam welding apparatus has a platform for supporting foam components or other components, a clamp for applying pressure to one or more of the foam components, and one or more welding heads mounted upon a track for translation proximate to the foam components to be welded together, the welding heads having an interface blade and a heated gas distribution nozzle, and optionally a trimmer for trimming excess material from one or more of the foam components. A hand-held foam welding device is also described.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2004Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Sealy Technology LLCInventors: Bruce G. Barman, Larry DeMoss

Patent number: 6863108Abstract: An applicator and reinforcer dispensing assembly for reinforcing holes in sheets of paper and other sheet materials that applies flat reinforcement rings about holes formed in those sheets is provided. A plurality of reinforcement rings are stacked one atop each other and are dispensed by the applicator. Various mechanisms for ensuring that the reinforcing rings are properly positioned in the applicator prior to application are also provided. A combination hole punch and reinforcing ring applicator is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2004Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Inventor: Lap-Sun Hui

Patent number: 6805181Abstract: A rotary mechanism for cutting and/or sealing a web has a pair of counter-rotating rotors mounted on parallel axes and having radially projecting arms between which the web is momentarily gripped for cutting and/or sealing. Sealing is performed by heated pressure outer faces on the rotor arms. Cutting is performed by cutter and anvil bars on the opposed arms engaging the web. Bearer faces on the arms beyond the pressure faces set a gap between the pressure faces and a rectangular-section tongue and groove in mating contact faces one side of the pressure faces locate the pressure faces laterally. The cutting means are adjusted by a wedge bar bearing on the inner face of the cutter bar or anvil. The wedge bar is movable in the direction of rotation and has an outer face inclined in the same direction. Means accessible from the leading and/or trailing faces of the rotor arms are provided for adjusting the wedge bar and clamping the cutter and anvil bars.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2002Date of Patent: October 19, 2004Assignee: Lipton, division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Brian Francis Blundell, Michael John Cahill, Kevin Richard Fincham, Paul Franklin, Geoffrey William Vernon, Peter Ernest Willett

Patent number: 6799622Abstract: Bags for produce or the like are prepared by advancing a thermoplastic sheet and a mesh sheet, each having an upper edge, along a process line. The plastic sheet has a bottom portion which is folded to define a lower edge of the thermoplastic sheet at the fold line. One seals the folded portion of the solid-wall thermoplastic sheet to a lower edge of the mesh sheet. Transverse slits are then formed in the sheets, and the sheets are heat sealed together near edges of the slits to form separate bags between the slits. The slits extend across both lower edges of the bags, but are preferably spaced from the upper edges. One drops produce between the sheet upper edges into the bags, and the bags are then heat sealed adjacent to the upper edges thereof, and subsequently separated by cutting. A novel heat seal die is also shown.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2002Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Inventor: Michael J. Recchia, Jr.

Patent number: 6789593Abstract: A combination hole punching and reinforcing device for punching holes in sheets of paper and other sheet materials applies flat reinforcement rings about holes formed in those sheets concurrently as the holes are formed. The device employs a die punch, which is preferably configured as a disposable item that is detachable from the lower end of the punching ram. The die punch is configured with a punching tip at its lower extremity and a shank that is preferably narrower than the punching tip. A plurality of reinforcement rings are stacked one atop each other and are carried upon a shoulder formed at the demarcation between the die punch tip and the die punch shank. A transverse pressure plate located atop the shank applies pressure to sequentially affix the lowermost reinforcement ring in the stack to a sheet of paper concurrently with the formation of an aperture through that sheet.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2002Date of Patent: September 14, 2004Inventors: Isao Aono, John Hui

Patent number: RE41169Abstract: An appliance for sealing elastic hoses with a sleeve, which is plastically deformable and slipped onto the hose, has two jaws which are movable towards and away from each other. One jaw has two straight bars which project towards the other jaw and extend transversely of the sleeve to make two transverse indentations in the sleeve and the hose when the jaws are moving towards each other. The same jaw has a cutting edge which projects towards the other jaw and is directed transversely of the sleeve, the cutting edge making a substantially transverse cutting indication in the sleeve and the hose when the jaws are moving towards each other.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1999Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: Millipore ABInventor: Nils Arthun
