  • Patent number: 5975180
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for the production of panels, plates or sheets are cemented on opposite sides of an intermediate layer of honeycomb with transverse openings constituted by a network of strips of constant width defining the openings. The edges of the strips defining the network are cemented on opposite sides of the layer and the plates or sheets are applied on the cemented edges. Two lateral parallel grooves are formed intermediate the thickness of the longitudinal edges of the intermediate layer with the layer contracted, such that the strips are flat against each other. Then these grooves are used to guide the layer when the layer is pulled out to form the openings. The necessary reduction of the width of the layer is effected by inserting two lateral convergent guides in the grooves on opposite edges of the layer, and forcing the layer to move in the direction of convergence of these guides.

  • Patent number: 5954913
Abstract: A label applicator for applying a label to the top surface of an object moving along a path adjacent to the applicator. The applicator is comprised of a label printer mounted for vertical adjustment on support structure attached to a fixed frame. The printer has a label feed position and is adjusted vertically on the support to set the label feed position to an expected median article height. A label transport assembly, attached to the frame, receives and retains the label and then moves vertically and laterally from a home position, above the label feed position, to an article intercept position, where it applies the label to the moving article. The controller learns the home position and positions the label transport assembly at the home position to pick up labels. The label printer, the label transport assembly, and the moveable frame are located alongside the object path such that when the label transport assembly is in the home position, the object path is vertically unobstructed.

  • Patent number: 5545284
Abstract: A method and apparatus of manufacturing laminate for honeycomb structure. The invention includes first and second adhesive agent applying units, each of which applies an adhesive agent to a material strip in parallel strips, first and second pressing rolls corresponding to each of said adhesive agent applying units, and a layering table reciprocated by a predetermined stroke. The second stripes of the adhesive agent are displaced transversely by a half pitch from the first stripes of the adhesive agent. The adhesive agent applying units and the pressing rolls are disposed immediately above the layering table and the rolls press the material strip being fed onto the layered material strip, and are moved between an operating position and an inoperative position with relation to the movement of the layering table. The layering table is movable and a roll stand housing the pressing rolls moves in a direction opposite to that of the layering table.

  • Patent number: 5534105
Abstract: A method and apparatus for impermeably sealing microencapsulated or other scent slurry during the printing process. The method comprises the application of an impermeable overlay sheet over the scent slurry on a continuous web of material, using double-sided tape or other adhesive means along the periphery of the overlay sheet. Preferably an impermeable metallic foil is used for the overlay, but other impermeable sheet material (e.g., plastic sheet) may be used. The apparatus continually feeds and applies the impermeable overlay sheet also disclosed. A second, similar apparatus may be provided to mirror the first apparatus, in order to apply a second impermeable overlay sheet to the opposite surface of the scent slurry coated web, thereby preventing bleed through of the scent and/or other chemicals.

  • Patent number: 5525188
Abstract: An apparatus for taping wires of a wire harness includes first and second tape application heads interconnected together and disposed proximate to a wire guiding mechanism. Both of the first and second tape application heads have hollow inner cores which communicate with a source of negative air pressure to draw a vacuum in each tape application head which causes a strip of wire tape to adhere to the outer surfaces of the application heads. One of the application heads is brought into contact with a plurality of wires guided across the head, while the second application head rotates around a common axis shared by the two heads, whereby each of the first and second application heads generally oppose each other and apply the strip of tape to the wires.

  • Patent number: 5518575
Abstract: A tube loading apparatus for loading a flexible tube into a tube receiving section which can support the tube includes a head having a base, a pair of chucks mounted on the base and a driving mechanism for moving one of the chucks. The head is movable in the X and Y directions relative to the tube receiving section. Each of the chucks has a pair of holding members for holding the tube. One of the chucks is adapted to move in the X direction by the driving mechanism so as to change the distance between the chucks. The driving mechanism is driven when the tube is held by the holding members of the chucks, to increase the longitudinal distance of the tube while reducing the outer diameter of the tube. The thus deformed tube is inserted into the tube receiving section by keeping the deformed condition, and then the chucks are operated so as to release the tube. Accordingly, the tube can be automatically loaded into the tube receiving section.

  • Patent number: 5472554
Abstract: A masking film adhering method and apparatus for transporting smoothly and accurately a masking film tape to which a wafer is stuck to the cutting location where the masking film is to be cut. The wafer is stuck onto the masking film tape by passing the masking film tape and the wafer through upper and lower adhesive rollers. The separation of the masking film tape is then increased from a cutting table so that the masking film tape having the wafer stuck thereon may not become adhered to the cutting table, by moving the upper adhesive roller upwardly when the wafer completely passes through the adhesive roller. After the masking film is transported to a cutting location, maintaining a predetermined distance between the masking film and the cutting table, the masking film tape is cut along the shape of the wafer. Sagging of the masking film due to the weight of the wafer is prevented to avoid the masking film tape adhesion to the cutting table.

  • Patent number: 5407513
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for cyclically accelerating the leading end of a slower moving first material web to match the faster speed of a continuous second material web. The apparatus is comprised of a set of upstream metering rolls which feed the first material web at a constant slow speed, a set of downstream applicator rolls having a constant and relatively faster rotational velocity, and an acceleration mechanism which variably and alternately reverses and allows forward movement of a leading end segment of the first material web while allowing for the constant rotational velocities of the upstream and downstream rolls. The first material web is wrapped partially around the set of upstream rolls and the leading end segment thereof is wrapped partially around one of the downstream rolls. • Patent number: 5391249
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing internally apertured pressure-sensitive labels adhered to a non-apertured liner begins with a label web adhered to a first liner. The internal aperture shapes are cut through the web only and not through the liner, forming aperture slugs separate from the web. The first liner is then removed from the web, and the separate aperture slugs adhere to and are removed with the liner. Next, the web, with apertures cut out, is adhered to a second liner and the label peripheries, in registry with the apertures, are cut through the web only and not through the liner, forming labels separate from the web. Finally, the web is removed from the second liner, leaving individually internally apertured labels on the non-apertured second liner.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing light-weight construction panels having a cementitious core layer surfaced with a layer of reinforcing fabric bonded to the two faces of the core includes the use of slurry applicator having a supporting member and a doctor in addition to a moving carrier for the slurry coated fabric. The edges of the panel also are covered with the fabric and may be open mesh edges. Cementitious slurry, for example, portland cement slurry, is applied to the fabric by means of a supporting member over which the fabric is drawn and a doctor means adjustably mounted above the supporting member. The supporting member is of a non-base-reactive material such as polypropylene or stainless steel; the use of such a supporting member permits better application of the slurry to the fabric before placement of the slurry coated fabric on the moving carrier.

Abstract: The Padding Element is created by two synthetic foil runs (1, 2) arranged one over the other and which are connected by means of first welding seams (3) and second welding seams (4). In each case two adjacent first welding seams (3) and second welding seams (4) create a chamber which during the manufacturing process of the Padding Element can remain unfilled with air, be partially filled with air, or completely filled with air, as required. In this manner Padding Elements can be produced with configurations individually adaptable to the object to be packed (6). The Padding Element is preferably used for at least three-sided enclosure of the object to be packed (6) and comprises, rather like a book cover, a top cover (7), a back (9) and a bottom cover (8).
