    Abstract: A method for bonding two DVD halves (23, 24) which are so held at a distance as to form a gap therebetween, includes introducing into the gap an adhesive (36) and spreading the adhesive across both disc halves. The invention is characterized by introducing the adhesive via a central opening of the DVD by means of e.g. L-shaped metering needles (63) which are pivotally guided in a central pin that engages the central opening, or flexible plastic needles which are slidably guided in a guide tube. Through introduction of the adhesive via the central opening enables a flow to the outside, without interference from the metering needles, when the DVD halves (23, 24) rotate. There is no buildup of adhesive in front of the metering needle. The bonding process can be carried out without interruption of the application of adhesive until the spin-off has concluded.

Hot air is applied on opposite sides of the conveyor belts (46 and 47), drying the glue. The glue transfer strips (37 and 38) of the glue applicator drum can be adjusted in size, shape and position so as to apply glue to one end, the other end, or both ends of the sheet product, and if glue is applied to only one end, one of the dryers (50 or 51) can be deactivated, saving energy.

    Abstract: Apparatus and a method for sealing of protective barrier fabric seams in otherwise impermeable articles such as garments, footwear, surgical gowns and the like, are provided, the sealed seams maintaining the imperviousness of the article, including seamed joints, to water, body fluids, pathogens and chemicals. In one pass through the apparatus, a sealed seam in a protective barrier fabric joint, using a curable adhesive sealant, is provided along a predetermined and specified length of the joint. The preferred adhesive is a silicone, most preferably a two-part, thermosetting silicone elastomeric adhesive. Also provided are mixing dies for use, inter alia, in the process which are especially suited for applying the two-part adhesive sealant.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying adhesive in a web converting machine is disclosed. In some embodiments, an adhesive application assembly is used to seal the tail of a rolled product against the rolled product. After being positioned in a location upon a roller, the rolled product is rotated and a sensor detects the location of the tail end, thereby establishing a reference for determining tail length in later operations. When the tail reaches a desired position, the adhesive application assembly applies adhesive to the tail and/or rolled product. In some embodiments, the adhesive assembly includes one or more adhesive sprayers with aperture members, and is self-cleaning. After the adhesive has been applied, the tail is wound upon the rolled product. In some embodiments, an adhesive application assembly is employed to apply adhesive to a core about which sheet material is to be wound.

    Abstract: An indexible turret delivers successive stacks of a series of stacks of overlapping paper sheets to an adhesive applying or coating station where the elongated spine of a freshly delivered stack assumes a predetermined position. An elongated carriage is movable longitudinally of the spine at the coating station and carries two mirror symmetrical nozzles one of which is activated to supply a coat of adhesive to the spine at the coating station while the carriage moves in one direction and the other of which is activated to apply a coat of adhesive to the spine of the next stack of the series while the carriage moves in the opposite direction. The nozzles have elongated slots extending transversely of the spine at the coating station, and each nozzle is mounted in a discrete frame and is adjustable in and/or with such frame transversely of as well as toward and away from the spine at the coating station.

The tape dispensed from the dispensing apparatus has a predetermined length cut by the cutter. The predetermined length of tape has a first side with a self-adhesive section for attaching the predetermined length of tape to the package. The predetermined length of tape also includes a non-adhesive section, and a ribbon disposed on the first side of the tape section. The predetermined length of tape has a tear strip defined by the ribbon, and non-adhesive section of the first side together. The tear strip extends longitudinally along the predetermined length of tape. The tear strip ends in a pull tab for pulling the tear strip open and opening the predetermined length of tape attached to the package.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a prepreg in which a reinforcing substrate is impregnated with a thermosetting matrix resin. In the method, the reinforcing substrate is moved in a traveling direction. The thermosetting matrix resin is supplied to an outer circumferential surface of a transferring roller. The thermosetting matrix resin which substantially contains no solvent and which is in. a molten state is transferred from the outer circumferential surface of the transferring roller to a first surface of a reinforcing substrate while the reinforcing substrate moves. The thermosetting matrix resin which is transferred to the first surface is forced to permeate through the reinforcing substrate by pressing at least one pressing roller on the thermosetting matrix resin transferred to the first surface while the reinforcing substrate moves. The reinforcing substrate impregnated with the thermosetting matrix resin is heated to semi-cure the thermosetting matrix resin.

Each twist-tie is a strip of material having a first face. The apparatus comprises a glue applicator (e.g., a spray head), a supply (e.g., reel) of twist-tie material, a carrier (e.g., channel shaped head including magnets), and a package support (e.g., conveyor). The package support holds each package at a first station in an orientation whereupon the exterior surface of the front panel is oriented vertically. The carrier is arranged to be oriented in a first horizontal position for receipt of a respective twist-tie thereon so that the first face of the twist-tie is facing upward. The glue applicator applies glue (e.g., sprays hot glue) downward onto the first face of the twist-tie as it is advanced onto the carrier.

The housing member is further positioned for covering at least a portion of the cutting blade and separating at least one of the edges of the slit from the cutting blade to reduce frictional engagement of the cutting blade with the tubular body.

    Abstract: A method for bonding two DVD halves (23, 24) which are so held at a distance as to form a gap therebetween, includes introducing into the gap an adhesive (36) and spreading the adhesive across both disc halves. The invention is characterized by introducing the adhesive via a central opening of the DVD by means of e.g. L-shaped metering needles (63) which are pivotally guided in a central pin that engages the central opening, or flexible plastic needles which are slidably guided in a guide tube. Through introduction of the adhesive via the central opening enables a flow to the outside, without interference from the metering needles, when the DVD halves (23, 24) rotate. There is no buildup of adhesive in front of the metering needle. The bonding process can be carried out without interruption of the application of adhesive until the spin-off has concluded.
