Patent number: 6634405Abstract: A method for bonding two DVD halves (23, 24) which are so held at a distance as to form a gap therebetween, includes introducing into the gap an adhesive (36) and spreading the adhesive across both disc halves. The invention is characterized by introducing the adhesive via a central opening of the DVD by means of e.g. L-shaped metering needles (63) which are pivotally guided in a central pin that engages the central opening, or flexible plastic needles which are slidably guided in a guide tube. Through introduction of the adhesive via the central opening enables a flow to the outside, without interference from the metering needles, when the DVD halves (23, 24) rotate. There is no buildup of adhesive in front of the metering needle. The bonding process can be carried out without interruption of the application of adhesive until the spin-off has concluded.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2001Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignee: Krauss-Maffei Kunststofftechnik GmbHInventor: Martin Eichlseder

Patent number: 6464783Abstract: A method for manufacturing a prepreg in which a reinforcing substrate is impregnated with a thermosetting matrix resin. In the method, the reinforcing substrate is moved in a traveling direction. The thermosetting matrix resin is supplied to an outer circumferential surface of a transferring roller. The thermosetting matrix resin which substantially contains no solvent and which is in. a molten state is transferred from the outer circumferential surface of the transferring roller to a first surface of a reinforcing substrate while the reinforcing substrate moves. The thermosetting matrix resin which is transferred to the first surface is forced to permeate through the reinforcing substrate by pressing at least one pressing roller on the thermosetting matrix resin transferred to the first surface while the reinforcing substrate moves. The reinforcing substrate impregnated with the thermosetting matrix resin is heated to semi-cure the thermosetting matrix resin.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Matsushita Electric Works, Ltd.Inventors: Ryuichi Hamabe, Hiroshi Harada, Noriaki Sugimoto, Hiroyuki Mori, Toshihiro Yaji, Yoshinori Matsuzaki

Patent number: 6453967Abstract: A device and method of use for applying twist-ties onto flexible packages on an assembly line. Each package has a front panel including an exterior surface. Each twist-tie is a strip of material having a first face. The apparatus comprises a glue applicator (e.g., a spray head), a supply (e.g., reel) of twist-tie material, a carrier (e.g., channel shaped head including magnets), and a package support (e.g., conveyor). The package support holds each package at a first station in an orientation whereupon the exterior surface of the front panel is oriented vertically. The carrier is arranged to be oriented in a first horizontal position for receipt of a respective twist-tie thereon so that the first face of the twist-tie is facing upward. The glue applicator applies glue (e.g., sprays hot glue) downward onto the first face of the twist-tie as it is advanced onto the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2000Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Fres-co System USA, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas DiFabio, John Hall

Publication number: 20020108717Abstract: Embodiment of a disclosed seam tool comprise a rigid backing configured to be positioned about a seam region defined by at least two adjacent pattern segments. The rigid backing further includes an injection port and, typically, a gas outlet port, fluidly coupled to the seam region. The disclosed device may further include a resilient liner which contacts and forms a seal with surfaces of the pattern segments. Compensating grooves may be formed in the resilient material to allow complete filling of the seam region by weld-forming material. An injection fitting may be operably coupled to an injection port to provide an improved ability to receive weld-forming material to form welds. A method for forming a weld between plural, adjacently positioned pattern segments also is disclosed. The method comprises positioning the disclosed embodiments of the seam tool about a seam region defined between adjacent pattern segments.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2001Publication date: August 15, 2002Inventors: Robert J. Patent number: 6428651Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying adhesive the edges of a slit tubular body as the tubular body is advanced along a path of travel is provided. The apparatus includes a tape feed for feeding a release tape having an adhesive applied to a surface thereof, a cutting blade for forming a slit having opposing edges in the tubular body such that the cutting blade is interposed between the opposing edges, and a housing member positioned along the path of travel. The housing member is positioned for directing the release tape along the exterior surface of the housing member in a line parallel to the path of travel of the tubular body such that the adhesive is applied to the at least one of the opposing edges of the slit. The housing member is further positioned for covering at least a portion of the cutting blade and separating at least one of the edges of the slit from the cutting blade to reduce frictional engagement of the cutting blade with the tubular body.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2000Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Plastic Technology, Inc.Inventors: Charles M. Patent number: 6425968Abstract: A method for bonding two DVD halves (23, 24) which are so held at a distance as to form a gap therebetween, includes introducing into the gap an adhesive (36) and spreading the adhesive across both disc halves. The bonding process can be carried out without interruption of the application of adhesive until the spin-off has concluded.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: Krauss-Maffei Kunstsofftechnik GmbHInventor: Martin Eichlseder
