Patent number: 5372761Abstract: A device for repairing laminated glass by inserting a liquid, curable resin into the fracture in the glass. An absorbent material is attached to the bottom of a suction cup. When it is desired to commence a repair, several drops of the resin are placed in the absorbent material. The suction cup is then positioned over the fracture such that the absorbent material is aligned with the center of the damage. Then the center of the suction cup is depressed toward the glass until resin flows from the absorbent material. To expedite the repair process, the vacuum between the suction cup and the glass may be intensified by pulling the center of the suction cup farther from the glass without detaching the edge of the suction cup; the center is maintained at this distant location for several seconds before being returned to its original position; and the pulling and returning is repeated several times. This process may be facilitated by attaching a handle to the top of the suction cup.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Inventor: Ramon C. Anderson, Sr.

Patent number: 5221388Abstract: A process for improving the gas separation efficiency of a bundle or module of hollow gas separation fibers by selectively sealing defective fibers without sealing good fibers through which a gas A passes significantly more readily than a gas B. At the beginning of this process the same atmosphere containing A and B is in the interior and at exterior surfaces of said fibers. A curable sealant is applied to a first open end of the fibers, the opposite end of the fibers is blocked, and the partial pressure of A at the exterior fiber surfaces is increased. The resulting pressure build-up inside the non-defective fibers prevents them from being penetrated significantly by the sealant. When the tip of the fibers is cut cleanly away, the good fibers are open but the defective fibers are plugged with sealant.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: Hoechst Celanese Corp.Inventors: Michael Haubs, Walter Hassinger

Patent number: 5194109Abstract: A method for recovering and reusing a scrap multilayer plastic sheet or film comprising at least a base material layer and laminated with an adhesive resin comprising at least one of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, a styrene-isoprene copolymer, a styrene-butadiene copolymer, a styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer and an ethylene-acrylic acid ester-maleic anhydride copolymer. The method comprises heating the scrap multilayer sheet or film to a temperature lower than the softening point of the base material layer to make the interlaminar peeling strength of the adhesive resin lower than the strength at break of a layer having the lowest strength at break, except for the adhesive layer, and separating the multilayer scrap into at least two scrap layers and recovering at least one scrap layer in sheet or film form. The present invention provides effective reuse of scrap with almost no reduction in physical properties. Furthermore the cost of the production or molding of the sheet can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1992Date of Patent: March 16, 1993Assignee: Idemitsu Petrochemical Co., Ltd.Inventor: Toyokazu Yamada

Patent number: 5194193Abstract: This method for the trenchless, in situ repair of underground pipe includes the steps of isolating a section of pipe to be repaired, heating a sealing material (having predetermined physical and chemical properties) to a liquid state, pumping the liquid material, under pressure as required, into the isolated section of pipe; circulating the liquid through the isolated section of pipe; and forcing the liquid into and through cracks in the pipe and into the soil surrounding the pipe. This is a thermal process wherein the molten material which is forced into the cracks and soil, cools and solidifies. The remaining liquid circulates through the isolated section of pipe and stays in a liquid state, because of retained internal heat, until it is removed from the pipe for storage and reuse. With this process, a novel bottom plug is used which allows the sealant to be applied to all cracks, crevices and even openings found where the smaller pipe connects to the larger pipe.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1992Date of Patent: March 16, 1993Inventors: Edward G. Patent number: 5190705Abstract: A method of repairing an underground large-diameter pipe having an inner surface includes first supporting with props inside the pipe spaced inward from its inner surface a lining having a shape conforming to that of the inner surface and then injecting a hardenable mass into the space between the inner surface and the lining and substantially completely filling this space with the mass. The mass is then cured and the props are removed. Then the cycle can be repeated for the next lining section. The lining is made of a durable synthetic resin, polyvinylchloride or high-density polyethylene.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Inventor: Leo Corazza

Patent number: 5190611Abstract: Material is removed from a panel (10) in the region surrounding an undesired opening (12) caused by damage or incorrect forming or wear of a fastener hole. The resulting prepared opening (21) has a bearing load transmitting sidewall surface that is substantially perpendicular to the outer surface (11) of the panel (10) and tapers slightly in an inward direction relative to the surface (11). The prepared opening (21) may extend all the way through the panel (10) or only part way through. A prefabricated insert (22) is positioned in the prepared opening (21) and bonded to the load transmitting surface. The bonding may be accomplished by applying an adhesive or using a fusing procedure. The insert (22) may have a constant angle of taper, preferably about two degrees, or may be concavely curved in the direction of taper. The insert (22) may be trimmed prior to and/or following the bonding procedure. A new fastener hole may be drilled through the bonded insert (22).Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1991Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Rudy L. Cologna, Everett A. Patent number: 5186949Abstract: The present invention relates to a filler injector for applying a filler to crevices in concrete surfaces. The injector has a transparent outer tube having scale markings thereon to indicate the pressure of any filler backing up from the surface and an adaptor connectable to a pressurized source of filler and screwed onto the outer tube. The injector also includes a check valve mounted in the adapter, an inner tube mounted inside a closed top of the outer tube and having a bore therein which can convey the filler from the adaptor to the surface, and a piston slidably mounted inside the outer tube and on the inner tube. The filler injector thus will not result in unwanted explosion, implosion, or skipping of a seam joint because of the pressure of the filler, and will provide a reading of the filling pressure on the concrete surface as the filler is being applied.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1991Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Inventor: Mei H.
