Liquid Patents (Class 16/51)
  • Patent number: 4287639
Abstract: Door closer of the type which holds the door open until an associated electric circuit is opened or closed. Provides means for free swinging of the door when the door closer is "cocked". This is achieved by a drive plate interposed between the closer shaft and its operator arm. The plate provides a pair of apertures which may selectively retain a pin adapted to work against the closer arm.

  • Patent number: 4139182
Abstract: A spring device including a piston slidably disposed in an inner cylinder of a dual inner and outer cylinder with a piston rod secured thereto and extending to the outside of the cylinder through a rod guide closing one end of the inner cylinder, an oil passage formed in the rod guide and connecting an annular chamber between the inner and outer cylinders with the interior of the inner cylinder, and a device for supplying a force on the piston to project the piston rod outwardly, in which a guide member is supported on the piston rod with a coil spring interposed between the guide member and the piston, and the guide member is adapted to contact the rod guide to control the oil flowing through the oil passage when the piston rod moves outward by a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 4115897
Abstract: A door closer for moving a door connected thereto from an open position to a closed position includes a housing, a chamber located within the housing, a piston movable in the chamber in response to movement of the door and a linkage assembly connected to the door for transmitting door movement from the door to the piston. A fluid chamber is disposed on one side of the piston and the piston moves through the fluid chamber upon closing movement of the door. Valve means is provided for controlling the rate of fluid flow from the fluid chamber as the piston moves therethrough to thereby control the rate of movement of the piston and the damping force acting on the door. A spring is disposed in the chamber and acts on the piston to provide a force to move the door toward the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4104761
Abstract: Mounting means for a door-check for a hatchway door hinged to swing between an elevated open position and a closed position and having torsion bars which serve not only as springs for counterbalancing the weight of the door, but also as the hinge pins for the door. Each torsion bar has a terminal portion which is bent backwardly into parallel relation with a straight portion, the terminal portion extending through the hinge and forming the hinge pin. The straight portion is secured at its other end to the hatchway frame and is twisted about the terminal portion by the hinge as the door is closed. The door-check member is mounted on the hatchway frame and is connected to a bracket mounted across the crook formed in the torsion bar where the terminal portion bends backward. The bracket therefore pivots about the hinge pin with the main portion of the torsion bar when the door is closed and provides a crank arm for actuating the door-check.

  • Patent number: 4102006
Abstract: A door closer with integral check action comprising a rigid rod movable inwardly and outwardly of a tubular housing which is adapted to be mounted on a door. The rigid rod is pivotally connected to a rigid link plate itself pivotally connected to a fixing plate for mounting on the door frame. A spring within the housing urges the rod inwardly to close the door. On one side of a transverse wall, through which the rod extends, is a fluid filled chamber in which moves a piston, carried by the rigid rod. Valve means on the piston act to resist only inward movement of the piston as the door is closed by the force of said spring and the rate of closure of the door is thereby controlled without substantially restricting outward movement of the piston in response to opening of the door.

  • Patent number: 4080687
Abstract: A door closer includes a cylinder-and-piston arrangement in which the piston is received in the cylinder for displacement between a rest position corresponding to a closed position of the door, and an end position corresponding to the fully open position of the door, through an intermediate position corresponding to a partly opened position of the door. The piston subdivides the interior of the cylinder into at least two compartments which are in communication with one another via at least two passages one of which is closable in any position of the piston by means of an electromagnetically operated valve, the other passage being open when the piston is between the rest and the intermediate position and closed when the piston is between the intermediate and the end position.

  • Patent number: 4067084
Abstract: An automatic door closer includes a closer shaft to which the door to be closed is connected for turning movement therewith about the axis thereof, and spring means biasing said closure shaft to a position in which the door is closed. The door closer includes further means for releasably holding the closer shaft and the door connected thereto in any adjusted position when the door is opened beyond a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 4050114
Abstract: A door closer hold open assembly connectable to a door for closing a held open door in response to a control signal includes a housing, a linkage assembly connectable to the door, biasing means providing a restoring force to move the door to the closed position and a main piston assembly disposed in the housing and actuatable by the linkage to move the main piston against the force of the biasing means. A fluid chamber is disposed in the housing for exerting a force on the main piston to balance the force of the biasing means in a desired door position to maintain the main piston and the door in the position it was last moved to by the linkage assembly. First and second independently operable valve means are disposed in a parallel circuit and are operable to control the flow of fluid from the chamber. The first valve means is electrically controlled from a closed position to an open position and the second valve means is resiliently biased toward a closed position.
