    Abstract: A gear driven dial indicator is used to indicate the door closer size for a door closer having an adjustable closing force. A drive gear is attached to the door closer adjustment screw. In the preferred embodiment, this drive gear engages a ring gear which is formed as part of the dial indicator. As the door closer adjustment screw is turned to change the door closer size, the drive gear turns with the adjustment screw. The drive gear then turns the planetary gear which turns the dial indicator, thereby changing the indicated size of the door closer.

    Abstract: A control mechanism includes a set of permanent magnets located within a cylindrical housing, the magnets being carried on a shaft which extends within the housing and is movable axially relative to the housing. The magnets are arranged in repulsion configuration and are coupled to the shaft and moved together as the shaft is moved relative to the housing manually from a stationary or retracted position to an extended position. Upon release of the shaft, repulsion forces produced by the magnets cause the magnets to move apart, moving the shaft relative to the housing from the extended position to the retracted position. In one embodiment, the control mechanism is coupled between a door and a door frame and operates as a door closer. In other embodiments, the control mechanism operates as an opening mechanism for opening the cover of a container, the opening mechanism also acting as a closer as the cover is being closed, to assist in closing the cover.

    Abstract: A cover device for a door closure mechanism includes a detachably mounted shell which has a generally C-shaped cross section and is formed by an elongated wall. The wall has an inside surface which terminates laterally in opposing side edges. An elongated trough extends adjacent the inside surface of the wall and is adapted to receive the door closure housing. A pair of opposing jaw members protrude from the inside surface of the wall adjacent each of the side edges respectively. The opposing jaw members define a lateral opening, the lateral opening is smaller than the diameter of trough. The jaw members are resiliently or elastically deflectable in an outward direction to enlarge the throat opening so as to permit the door closure housing to be inserted laterally into the trough. Once the jaw members have been deflected over the full diameter of the housing, the jaw members spring inwardly to frictionally retain the cover on the door closure housing of the door closure mechanism.

Structural members at the ends of the washer space in the cylinder maintain the washer in an essentially perpendicular orientation on the rod so that it may slide through the washer freely as the door is opened or closed. A positionable support, longitudinally buttressed from the cylinder, is introducible into the washer space so that the support may contact the washer on initiation of retraction of the rod into the cylinder causing the washer to cant, arrest the piston rod, and hold the door open. To unlatch the door, the positionable support is withdrawn to avoid canting contact with the washer.

A seal prevents hydraulic fluid from passing around the piston head between the distal chamber and the proximal chamber. A snap ring, partially housed within the single groove, engages the inclined outer surface of the piston head.

    Abstract: A gate latch is described for maintaining a wire gate in a closed position between a pair of gate posts embedded in the ground. The gate latch comprises a support which is nailed to the upper end of one of the gate posts and which has one end of a lever pivotally secured thereto. A U-shaped connector is pivotally secured to the lever and is adapted to be extended over the upper end of the end post member of the gate. The lower end of the end post member is inserted into the U-shaped connector secured to the lower end of the associated gate post. Pivotal movement of the lever causes the upper end of the end post member to be drawn or pulled towards the gate post. When the lever is in its locked position, an "over-center" condition is achieved to maintain the gate in its closed position.

    Abstract: A door closing apparatus is described which embraces a unit for generating a closing force, a lever attached thereto via a releasable clutch for actuating the door and a controllable blocking device. The releasable clutch consists of a threaded connection which permits relative rotation between the actuating lever and the drive axle over a predetermined stroke. An abutment for frictionally locking the actuating lever is provided, with the frictional locking abutment becoming effective relative to the actuating lever at at least one end of the stroke. The holding force which sets in between the actuating lever and the frictional locking abutment is smaller than the holding force of the blocking device which blocks the unit for generating the closing force in the closing direction.

The second section can be cut to the desired length in the plane of one of the grooves.     Abstract: An automatic door closer comprises a closer shaft connected to a door for turning therewith and being turnably mounted in the region of one end of an elongated fluid-filled housing. A cam disk fixed to the closer shaft cooperates over rollers carried by a slide to move the latter and a piston rod fixed thereto during opening movement of the door in a first direction. A first piston arranged in the housing divides the latter into a first and a second pressure space and is connected to the piston rod passing through a bore in the first piston for moving therewith in the first direction to thereby reduce the volume of the first pressure space while increasing the volume of the second pressure space. A coiled compression spring arranged about the piston rod biases the first piston to move in a second direction opposite said first direction. A second piston fixed to the free end of the piston rod projects beyond the first piston into a cylinder space formed in a plug closing the other end of the housing.
