    Abstract: The present invention discloses a paper coated with a new coating formulation. The coating formulation comprises a stable pigment slurry prepared without an acid-based dispersant. The coating formulation may be applied to the paper using a variety of methods: In general, an aqueous cationic pigment slurry is prepared comprising an alumina pigment slurry, a nonionic wetting agent, and a cationic interfacial modifier (dispersant). The aqueous cationic pigment slurry is then added to one or more additional conventional coating ingredients, such as binders, pigments, and additives to form a coating formulation. The coating formulation is then applied to at least one side of a paper and the coating is mechanically treated.

In accordance with the present invention, a first bonding material is applied to a first side of the web and optionally a second bonding material is applied to a second side of the paper web. The bonding materials are applied according to preselected patterns. At least one side of the paper web is creped after one of the bonding materials is applied. The bonding material applied to the creped side of the web can be an adhesive selected that allows the web to be creped at relatively low temperatures.

    Abstract: Cationically modified white pigments (W) in particulate form, essentially consisting of a particulate inorganic white pigment (M) of a particle size in the range of 0,1 to 40 ?m and an applied water soluble, cationic, crosslinked polymer (PA) containing quaternary ammonium groups in salt form, obtainable by reaction of epichlorohydrin or of epichlorohydrin derivatives or precursors with amines, under conditions leading to at least partial crosslinking, optionally in combination with an anionic optical brightener (B) and where the molar ratio of (B) to (PA) is such that the number of cationic charges of the total polymer (PA) is higher than the number of anionic charges of the total anionic optical brightener (B), are surprisingly useful as cationic white pigments in various fields of technique, especially in papermaking.

The method of the invention applies a transparentizing material to a preselected application site of the paper substrate, and exposes the transparentizing material to heat for a predetermined period of time to help facilitate penetration of the transparentizing material into the paper substrate and prevent migration of the transparentizing material from the application site. The rate of penetration of the transparentizing material into the paper substrate reduces the time and increases the efficiency of the transparentizing process. The invention also provides a paper substrate and a one-piece paper assembly in which a translucent area or “window” is formed according to the method of the invention.

The patterns are positioned on the paper product such that untreated areas on one surface are in correspondence with the treated areas on the other surface of the sheet.
