  • Publication number: 20080308247
Abstract: A paper machine having a forming fabric with a paper side plurality of weft and warp yarns interwoven to form a layer contacting a paper web. A plurality of weft and warp yarns are interwoven to form a machine side layer for the forming fabric. A plurality of warp binder yarns are interlaced with the paper side and machine side yarns to form a multiple layered forming fabric. The weft yarns in the machine side layer are greater in diameter than the warp yarns for maintaining width stability of the fabric. The fabric is characterized by high permeability, high void volume and a high Beran's Fiber Support Index.

  • Patent number: 7455078
Abstract: A method of making a seam for an endless woven multilayer papermakers fabric such as a press felt base fabric, comprises selecting a repeating weave pattern so as to provide during weaving a body portion woven as a double layer, and a shed change for the warp yarns adjacent to the warp yarns of the body portion to provide a first and second seaming portion. In each seaming portion the warp yarns are separated into an upper group and a lower group such that the weft yarn interweaves separately with each group to form a distinct upper and lower layer. A forming wire is provided at the vertically aligned lateral edges of the fabric, and the weft yarn in sequence interweaves with the upper group of warp yarns to provide the upper layer, forms a seaming loop about the forming wire and interweaves with the lower group of warp yarns to provide the lower layer. The method and a fabric made by the method provide improved uniformity of the seaming loops and reduced sheet marking in the seam area.

  • Publication number: 20080110589
Abstract: Methods for dewatering a fiber suspension in a twin-wire press, having a lower wire and an upper wire, and a first and a second dewatering table, which supports the wires such that a dewatering space is defined by the wires, are disclosed. The wires transport the fiber suspension under compression of the wires by the dewatering tables, such that the fiber suspension is dewatered and forms a fiber web between the wires. A separate pressing force is applied against one of the wires, such that this wire presses the formed fiber web via the second wire against one of the dewatering tables and further dewaters the fiber web. The separate pressing force is adjusted such that a desired dryness of the fiber web leaving the dewatering tables is achieved. A twin-wire press is also disclosed.

Abstract: A press felt for use in the press section of a papermaking machine. The felt is comprised of at least one base fabric to which at least one batt layer is attached by needling or another suitable method. At least one of the base fabric, the at least one layer of batt material, or the fabric scrim is comprised of polymeric fibers which are blended with fibers whose modulus of elasticity is substantially less than the modulus of elasticity of the polymeric fibers. Press felts manufactured in accordance with the teachings of the invention provide a retarded elastic spring-back in the vertical (or Z) direction of the felt following the mid-nip point in the press section. This retarded elastic spring-back advances the post nip separation position of the felt and the paper web towards the mid-nip point, thus reducing rewetting of the paper sheet.

  • Patent number: 6821391
Abstract: A former for producing a tissue web and a process of making a tissue web using the former. The former includes a forming element, an inner dewatering belt, and an outer dewatering belt. The inner and outer belts converge to form a stock inlet nip. The inner and outer belts are guided over the forming element and thereafter separating from one another in the area of a separation point. At least one suction element is positioned adjacent the inner belt on a side which is opposite the outer belt. Alternatively, a conditioning device is positioned adjacent the outer belt. The process includes forming the tissue web in the area of the forming element, guiding the inner and outer belts around the forming element, and separating the inner and outer belts in the area of the separation point. Alternatively, the process includes conditioning the outer belt.

Abstract: An air press for use in a paper machine removes liquid from a fiber web. The air press includes a plurality of rolls, with each roll having a peripheral surface. The plurality of rolls include at least one pair of adjacent rolls defining a nip therebetween. Each roll in the at least one roll pair has longitudinally opposite replaceable ends. The replaceable ends define a portion of the peripheral surface with the nip therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20040173332
Abstract: Water draining device for a paper machine or the like, in particular for a felted press of such a paper machine, including a receiving tank extending at least essentially over the machine width. The receiving tank includes a first chamber that receives arriving water and is under ambient pressure, and a second chamber that is connected to the first chamber and is under vacuum, into which the water collecting in the first chamber is aspirated and from which the water is eventually drained. A water receiving device of improved efficiency is also provided by forming a water receiving device by at least one suction channel projecting into the wedge-shaped area between the upper press roll and the dewatering belt, and extending transverse to the pulp web, which suction channel is connected to a source of reduced pressure.

Abstract: A flexible press cover which has an additional strengthening element in at least one of its two end regions. As a result, in the end region, the tensile strength and the tensile rigidity in the circumferential direction are increased with respect to that hitherto known in such a way that it is no longer necessary to clamp the press cover end region in between two components. Instead, the press cover according to the present invention is suitable to be fixed to the outer circumferential surface of a rotatable supporting element belonging to the cover carrying disk without the aid of an outer ring, a clamping band, clamping filament or the like. In the most beneficial case, the arrangement for fixing the press cover to the aforementioned supporting element is completely free of any kind of fixing elements which would be associated with the cover outer surface.

  • Publication number: 20040173333
Abstract: A tissue sheet is made using a modified wet pressing process employing an integrally sealed air press. After initial formation and conventional vacuum dewatering, the wet web may be conformed to the surface contour of a relatively coarse fabric to give the web a textured surface. By creating a pressure differential across the web, the air press noncompressively dewaters the wet web to a consistency of about 30 to about 40 percent prior to a heated drying cylinder. The web may be dried to substantially preserve its three-dimensional, throughdried-like-texture. The process provides a web having an exceptionally high degree of bulk and absorbency not expected in wet-pressed products.

  • Publication number: 20040154776
Abstract: In a wet paper web transfer belt, the wet paper web side layer is formed by a high molecular weight elastic section containing porous bodies which are exposed at, or protrude from the web-contacting surface. The porous bodies are anchored in the resin and wear at about the same rate way as the surrounding resin. Therefore, the distribution of the porous bodies does not vary significantly as a result of abrasion. This transfer belt can transport an attached wet paper web, and release the web smoothly to a next stage in the papermaking process, over a long period of use.

  • Patent number: 6764578
Abstract: A vibration-minimizing suspension mechanism for a press roll is provided. The press roll and an opposing roll each having a rotational axis and cooperate to form a press nip adapted to impart a linear load on a fiber web passing therethrough. The linear load is oriented through the rotational axes of the press roll and the opposing roll. As such, the suspension mechanism comprises a suspension arm having opposed ends and a medially-disposed pivot, wherein the press roll is rotatably engaged at the rotational axis thereof with one of the opposed ends of the suspension arm. The suspension arm is further pivotably and adjustably mounted at the pivot so as to allow the pivot to be adjusted in substantially parallel relation to the linear load.
