Abstract: A vibration-minimizing suspension mechanism for a press roll is provided. The press roll and an opposing roll each having a rotational axis and cooperate to form a press nip adapted to impart a linear load on a fiber web passing therethrough. The linear load is oriented through the rotational axes of the press roll and the opposing roll. As such, the suspension mechanism comprises a suspension arm having opposed ends and a medially-disposed pivot, wherein the press roll is rotatably engaged at the rotational axis thereof with one of the opposed ends of the suspension arm. The suspension arm is further pivotably and adjustably mounted at the pivot so as to allow the pivot to be adjusted in substantially parallel relation to the linear load.

Abstract: An on-machine-seamable papermaker's fabric includes a base fabric having seaming loops at its widthwise edges for joining the papermaker's fabric into endless form on a paper machine. The seam formed when the seaming loops are interdigitated and joined to one another with a pintle is covered with a strip of flow-resistant material, or, where the base fabric is a laminated structure having a top layer and a bottom layer, strips of flow-resistant material are placed between the top and bottom layers adjacent to the seam. The flow-resistant material provides the seam region with permeabilities to air and water substantially identical to those of the rest of the papermaker's fabric. At least one layer of staple fiber batt is entangled through the base fabric and flow-resistant material.

  • Patent number: 6432273
Abstract: The invention relates to a former-press section (100, 110) of a paper machine and to a method of transferring a web from a former to a press section. Between the former section (100) and the press section (110) there is a pre-press zone (PP) which removes water from the web (W) and through which the web (W) is passed as a closed draw from the former section (100) to the press section (110). The upper wet wire (10) or the equivalent transfer wire (10A) of the former section (100) is passed through the pre-press zone (PP), the web (W) being passed on the lower face of said wire into and through the pre-press zone (PP). Inside the loop of the upper wet wire (10) or of the equivalent transfer wire (10A) and/or inside the loop of the lower wet wire (20) there are transfer devices (15, 15a, 16, 26) based on the use of a pressure difference.

  • Patent number: 6231723
Abstract: A web of tissue is formed in a crescent former, followed by an air press for water removal in the pressing section, passing onto a Yankee dryer. A headbox injects stock between upper and lower dryer fabrics brought together on a breast roll. The fabrics move over vacuum boxes, and the web is heated with steam and passed between an upper pressure box and a lower vacuum box forming an air press which dewaters the web. A sheet transfer pickup vacuum box holds the sheet to the upper fabric as the lower fabric diverges from the upper fabric. A pressure roller transfers the web onto a Yankee dryer. The fabrics are cleaned on vertical runs before returning to the breast roll. A second upper fabric or transfer fabric operating at a lower speed then the first can be used to form a rush transfer between the forming fabrics and the Yankee dryer which increases web bulk and absorbency. Instead of a second fabric, a vacuum pressure roll may perform the rush transfer between the lower forming fabric and the Yankee dryer.
