  • Patent number: 11858036
Abstract: A system and method for filling a mold with molten aluminum includes a molten metal pump, a vessel configured to contain molten metal, a mold for receiving molten metal, and a conduit between the vessel and the mold. Molten metal is pumped in the vessel until it reaches a level at which it flows through the conduit and into the mold. The flow of molten metal into the mold is stabilized to maintain a level of molten metal in the mold. A skin of solid metal forms between the mold and the conduit, at which time the pumping of molten metal can cease. The mold with solid metal in it can be moved.

  • Patent number: 10933464
Abstract: A casting method includes preparing a thin shell mold which is sintered and placed in a box. Sands are buried in the box to encompass the thin shell mold. The pressure chamber is depressurized. The casting material is filled into the thin shell mold, such that the thin shell mold is disposed at a vacuum state. Then, the negative pressure of the pressure chamber is released. Then, the pressure chamber is pressurized, to form a pressure difference which presses the casting material to flow into the thin shell mold, thereby finishing the casting work. The temperature of the casting material is reduced, and the pressure in the pressure chamber is increased. Then, the casting material is cooled to form a casting product. Then, the thin shell mold is broken, and the casting product is removed.

  • Patent number: 10884184
Abstract: Bromine doping of silica glass is demonstrated. Bromine doping can be achieved with SiBr4 as a precursor. Bromine doping can occur during heating, consolidation or sintering of a porous silica glass body. Doping concentrations of bromine increase with increasing pressure of the doping precursor and can be modeled with a power law equation in which doping concentration is proportional to the square root of the pressure of the doping precursor. Bromine is an updopant in silica and the relative refractive index of silica increases approximately linearly with doping concentration. Bromine can be used as a dopant for optical fibers and can be incorporated in the core and/or cladding regions. Core doping concentrations of bromine are sufficient to permit use of undoped silica as an inner cladding material in fibers having a trench in the refractive index profile. Co-doping of silica glass with bromine and chlorine is also demonstrated.

Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus and methods for molding battery group straps. Molding apparatus, generally indicated at (10), includes a centrally cooled mold block (11) which defines two laterally displaced sets (12, 13) of longitudinal spaced mold cavity (14) and respective lead feed block (15) and (16) having appropriate feed channels. A sensor, in the form of an electrically conducting rod (25), is disposed so that its tip forms one part of the bottom of the mold cavity (14). This can detect as soon as lead enters into the cavity and that detection is used to control the pour time for the lead to a predetermined period, so that the lead entering the cavities is of a constant quantity on each cycle.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for pumping molten metal from a reservoir into a preferably bottom-filled mold includes a pair of graphite pump crucibles partially submerged in a reservoir of molten metal. Check valves in the bottom of each crucible enable them to be filled to the same level as the reservoir. A high pressure inert gas supply operating through a pressure regulator, forces the molten metal from one of the crucibles up a riser tube to a horizontally extending runner and through a fill port into the mold. The pressure supply is then connected to the other crucible while the first refills.

Abstract: Techniques for forming cast parts for medical devices suitable for contact with internal regions of patients are described herein. Such parts can be small in scale (e.g., having a major axis less than 0.3 inches, and/or a minor axis less than about 0.08 inches), and can be formed from metals that have a high melting point and high reactivity with environmental components or mold surfaces, such as stainless steel and titanium alloys. Such techniques can include injecting molten metal into the sprue of a mold tree such that the side runners are backfilled after the molten metal impacts a closed end of the sprue. Side runners can be oriented in particular directions and positions to promote backfilling. As well, flask temperatures and the use of surfactants can also promote cast part formation, hindering the formation of surface defects.

Abstract: A die-casting machine using an electric servo motor as a driving source for injecting/filling molten metal into a cavity of a mold through an injection sleeve. The molten metal in the injection sleeve is injected/filled into the cavity by an injection member. During the course between the stage when the molten metal has not reached a gate of the mold yet and the stage when the molten metal begins to pass the gate of the mold, the speed of the injection member is controlled to be accelerated in a smooth speed characteristic curve which does not have a broken-line characteristic. Thus, rising to a high injection speed can be attained rapidly and smoothly.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for casting NF metal baths, particularly copper or copper alloys, to produce flat products at least 20 mm thick, ensure melt introduction into a pool while preventing gas pockets or impurities flushing into the melt of a casting mould. The melt continuously flows along a flow-off element from a tundish to a bath level of the mould, at a casting angle of up to 15° and a constant or decreasing rate, and is conducted below a pool surface of the mould without influencing flow rate. Vortexes generated by melt hitting the bath surface are prevented from extending within the mould by a cover surrounding a top surface of the flow-off element. Gaseous components produced when the melt flows, escape via a free space above the flow. Gravity determines a flow rate of the free melt flowing from tundish to molten bath of a revolving strip-casting mould.
