With Work Engaging Means Supporting Drive Patents (Class 173/31)
  • Patent number: 4989677
Abstract: A pile 13 is driven into the ground 5 by a ram 8 driven by a hydraulic cylinder 37. The pile 13 is guided through a guide 2 having a detachable end portion 4 which is embedded in the ground. The guide 2 and cylinder 37 are vertically slideable on a rail 3 and can be raised and lowered by a further hydraulic ram 39 located at the upper end of the rail 3. Further piles are loaded through a door 11 in the side of the guide 2 and each pile is driven in a single stroke. The apparatus is transportable on a tracked vehicle 41. By supporting the pile 13 in a tubular guide 2 during driving it is possible to use pile sections of small diameter which are light and easy to handle. Pile sections are connected using a tubular metal joint member.

  • Patent number: 4986370
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting a pneumatic hammer from the hammer's work surface. A pneumatic lift attachment is provided having a support housing. Attached to the support housing is a lift plate, containing a guide hole and an adjustable chain, for securing a pneumatic hammer to the lift plate. Defined within the housing is an air cylinder containing a piston having a piston rod. The piston is responsive to air supplied to the air cylinder, which drives the piston and piston rod downward. Attached to the bottom of the piston rod is a foot. As the foot meets the ground's surface, the support housing is lifted, freeing the attached hammer from the work surface.

  • Patent number: 4823887
Abstract: A device for applying a working or assembling process to an article at an appropriately selected position as temporarily mounted to a supporting plate through a hole formed therein, having a housing of a generally twofold tubular structure, an annular piston disposed in an annular space in said housing and adapted to be axially reciprocated by selective supply or exhaust of pressure fluid, and a plurality of cotter members arranged in the tubular housing so as to be selectively driven out of the tubular housing radially outwardly as driven by the annular piston by way of a wedging engagement with the annular piston, so that the cotter members are driven against the inner peripheral wall surface of the hole of the supporting plate with very high force available by the wedging engagement.

  • Patent number: 4703698
Abstract: A welding head base to facilitate the mounting of a welding head assembly thereon for the purpose of welding a joint between abutted ends of a pipe. The base is mounted on the edges of a thin, sheet material, continuous band track and is capable of low frictional movement, through a series of wheel assemblies, relative to the track. Each wheel assembly includes a wheel with each wheel including an enlarged flange to facilitate the mounting of the welding head base onto the track. Mounted on the fixed section of the base is a sprocket assembly with a sprocket wheel that is to be rotatably driven by a motor. The sprocket is to engage with a series of gear teeth formed within the track. The sprocket assembly is to be movable from an operating position (in engagement with the track) to a retracted position (spacing the sprocket wheel from the track). Movement of the sprocket assembly is caused through the use of a manually operated cam assembly.

  • Patent number: 4601352
Abstract: An automatic compaction assembly for compacting samples of asphaltic or bituminous materials is disclosed. A slide hammer is carried for vertical motion along a guide rod which has a compaction foot at a lower end. A drive chain is driven along a generally triangular path by a suitable drive motor and has weight engaging and raising lugs. An upper chain sprocket shuttle and a lower chain sprocket shuttle are slideably carried in a main frame of the compactor and cooperate with a drive sprocket on the drive motor to define the triangular path of chain travel. A horizontal overarm is formed as a portion of the upper shuttle and receives the upper end of the guide rod. As the guide rod moves downwardly, the release point defined by the upper shuttle also moves down thereby maintaining a constant weight drop distance during sample compaction. The slide weight, after being released from the drive chain continues to move upwardly along the guide rod until its upward travel is halted by gravity.

  • Patent number: 4448338
Abstract: In a pneumatic nail driver, compressed air drives a working piston in the driving direction within a working cylinder. An inlet valve controls the flow of compressed air into the working cylinder. A sensing element mounted on the front end of the driver moves opposite to the driving direction when it is pressed against the receiving material for the nail. The sensing element pivots a shift lever which in turn moves a safety valve for controlling in one position the flow of compressed air to the control space associated with the inlet valve and in another position to connect the control space to the ambient atmosphere.
