The junction box has a resilient tail-like member that extending away from the rear face of the junction box. The tail-like member has first and second ends with at least one bend or curvature along an intermediate portion and a length such that, in a compressed state, the second end bears against a first inside wall of the hollow core and at least portions of the junction box front face bear against an opposing second inside wall of the hollow core.

Abstract: A safety shutter for a power receptacle includes two identical sliding blocks engaged with each other and two biasing members. Each sliding block has a base and a platform extending from the base with a slanted surface. The slanted surfaces are disposed below the holes of the receptacle. The biasing members are helical torsion springs disposed at the end of the sliding blocks. The platform of each sliding block is disposed above the base of the other sliding block so the shutter normally blocks access to the conductors inside the receptacle. When two prongs of a plug are inserted into both holes, the prongs push on both slanted surfaces, causing the shutter to open. When a foreign object is inserted into only one hole, only one sliding block is moved by the foreign object and the base of the other sliding block still blocks access to the conductors.

Abstract: An electrical box mountable within a wall and installable from outside the wall. The box has a pan that includes a front flange for contacting an outer wall surface that extends outwardly from a sidewall. A back bracket is positioned opposite the front flange and adjacent to the back wall and a fastener having a shaft extends through the back wall to movably secure the back bracket to the back wall. No portion of the shaft extends behind the back bracket. The back bracket is movable relative to the pan between a first position adjacent to the back wall and a second position spaced farther from the back wall. The bracket and front flange are adapted for clamping a portion of a wall located between the front flange and back bracket when the back bracket is in its first position.

  • Patent number: 8168887
Abstract: A bracket and junction box assembly and method allows simplified wiring at a prefab production facility and at a construction site. A junction box including a detachable and reattachable rear cover plate is pre-assembled with a plaster ring, electrical device, and leads attached to the switch or outlet, at a prefab facility. A Metal Clad (MC) cable may be attached to the junction box and wires carried in the MC Cable may be connected to the leads. A mounting bracket is generally sandwiched between the junction box and the plaster ring for mounting to framing members at the construction site. Following assembly at the prefab facility, the prefab junction box is shipped to the construction site where the bracket and junction box assembly is mounted to framing members. Connections to wires carried by MC Cables are then facilitated by removing the rear cover plate to access the interior of the junction box.
