Abstract: A safety device comprising a body portion secured to the torso of a swimmer and having support straps and a handle to permit an instructor to provide support for the swimmer is disclosed. The safety device may be used for a variety of purposes, such as teaching individuals how to swim. During use, an instructor or other individual may provide support and/or guidance for the swimmer by lifting or pulling on the handle. The device may be constructed to provide both freedom of movement for the swimmer and direct contact with the instructor, thereby allowing for a safe, yet challenging, learning experience.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a multi-layered design for an article of apparel such as swimwear. In particular, at least one layer may include a stretch resistant matrix made of a thermoplastic polymer, a silicone or other similar material to provide additional support and modesty to certain areas of the apparel, such as the bust area. Further, a method of manufacturing the article of apparel is also disclosed. According to aspects described herein, the layers may be integrated using techniques to increase the overall integrity of the apparel.

The retention device is configured to mate and demate with a handle of a paddle to retain the paddle to the clothing element. The back end extends down to cover the neck, providing greater coverage for hair around the neckline. In profile, the bottom line of the swimmer's headband includes downwardly extending ear cover extensions between the front and back ends. The ear extensions cover the user's ears to protect the same from water exposure. The swimmer's headband is constructed from water-impermeable material.

Each friction locking adjustment terminal end may be secured to an end of one of a pair of neck cords of the swim top. The friction locking adjustment terminal ends may be slidably affixed to the opposing neck cord of the swim top to permit the fit of the top to be adjusted. The friction locking adjustment terminal ends may be comprised of adjustment buckles or slidable knots. Adjustment buckles may include two or more silicone coated pads having holes for threading the cords of the swim top. A friction enhancing pattern may be proximate to the holes of the adjustment buckles. The friction enhancing pattern may engage the cord passing through that hole when the swim top is worn to enhance the secure fit of the swim top.

The inflatable bag can be manually inflated via the mouthpiece or automatically inflated via the automatic inflator to serve as a buoy, which is helpful in learning swimming and in case of emergency in water.
