Abstract: A method [and apparatus] for refurbishing eroded portions in coke oven doorjambs including refurbishing apparatus having a framework attached to the coke oven structure adjacent the doorjamb. The framework supports a carriage that is simultaneously moveable in an "X" axis direction and a "Y" axis direction within the boundary so that a machine[-cutting] tool, attached to the carriage, can be moved from one position directly to another position within the framework boundary. [The machine-cutting tool is positioned to make cutting] The machine tool is moved directly to selected positions within the boundary to make machining passes along new metal that is fused into the eroded portions of the coke oven doorjamb.

Abstract: This invention relates to a reactor 1 for the continuous production of linear or cyclic acetals, in particular trioxane, dioxolane, tetroxane, dimethoxymethane, diethoxymethane, diethoxyethane and dibutoxyethane. This reactor has internal adjacently arranged evaporator elements 2, which allow for flow-through of a heat transport medium, and which are at least two meters high so as to generate a thermosiphon flow. The clear cross section between the evaporator elements is 20 to 80% of the overall cross section. Using the reactor, circulation ratios of up to 250 can be achieved. Thus, the reliability and availability of a production plant is increased while the susceptibility to breakdown decreases.

Abstract: A liquid distributor in an evaporator, intended in particular for the evaporation treatment of liquid suspensions which contain fibers or other such solid ingredients. The distributor comprises, located at the upper end of the heat exchange surface, a transverse frame, liquid conduits disposed therein distributing the liquid over the entire width of the heat exchange surface. According to the invention the liquid conduits are made up of feed conduits slanted obliquely downwards and of distribution conduits branching out therefrom and leading to the heat exchange surface. At the branching points of the conduits their wall surfaces on the downstream side with respect to the feed flow are rounded into curved dividing surfaces by means of which the dividing of the flow is carried out.

Abstract: A liquid redistribution system for redistributing liquid descending in a packed distillation column in which liquid is distributed from one side of the column to the other side of the column and vice-versa. To this end, a plurality of parallel, spaced apart liquid distributor elements provide inlet openings for receiving the liquid as it descends and outlet openings located on the underside of the distributor elements for discharging the liquid from the inlet openings. Channels provide flow communication between the inlet and outlet openings.
Abstract: A coke oven door for placement against a door jamb of a coke oven comprises a segmented door body and plurality of toggle mechanisms coupled to the door at the juncture of each segment. The toggle mechanisms include inner and outer toggle links pivotally connected by an intermediate pivot shaft and the links are pivotable between an extended length and a shortened length. Inner ends of the toggle mechanism are coupled to the segmented door body and outer ends of the toggle mechanisms are coupled to a flexible latch tension bar. The latch tension bar engages latch hooks connected to the door jamb and vertical movement of a latch actuator rod coupled to the intermediate pivot shaft moves the toggle mechanisms to an extended position to flex the latch tension bars and force the door body against the door jamb to seal the coke oven.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for raising, moving and lowering a massive coker chute cover are provided. One embodiment of the invention comprises engaging the cover with a lift plate, raising the lift plate, and, moving the lift plate, the course of the movement being in the arc of a circle, lowering the lift plate, and releasing the cover from the plate.
Abstract: Compacting rod retainers are disposed on both sides of a web of the compacting rods and consist each of a bushing mounted on a drive shaft eccentrically, on which a carrier is slidably engaged, and cooperating with an associated clamping wedge. The opposite side of the clamping wedge cooperates correspondingly with the web of the compacting rod, so that upon an appropriate rotary motion of the shaft the carrier is moved translating the clamping wedge pressing against the web of the compacting rod, or releasing it. Thereby area pressure is attained, which makes possible the utilization of very heavy compacting rods.
Abstract: An injector for a high temperature gas distribution means comprising a distribution manifold having a heat-resistant lining with a central passage therethrough, and a refractory-lined injector communicating with the distribution manifold. The injector includes a nozzle disposed external to the manifold having a central opening and an inlet extending from the nozzle to the central passage. The cross-sectional area of the central opening in the nozzle in the direction of flow is smaller at least at one point than that of the inlet such that a major portion of the pressure drop in the gas flowing from the central passage through the inlet and the nozzle is created by the nozzle. By disposing the nozzle external to the distribution manifold, the flow rate of gas through cracks in the heat resistant manifold lining is minimized.
Abstract: An arrangement for filling at least one coke oven chamber has a transport device arranged to transport coal, a chute member located under the transport device to guide coal to a filling opening of the coke oven chamber, at least one closing member arranged between the chute member and the filling opening of the coke oven chamber, and a sliding plate moveable in a housing above the chute member between open and closed positions, wherein the sliding plate and the housing in its region in which the sliding plate is in its open position are inclined toward a horizontal.
Abstract: A device for adjusting the position of a track mounted car from a first position where the car is initially spotted by conventional braking means to a second predetermined position on the track which must be reached within close tolerances. An arm which may be pivoted in a vertical arc parallel to the track is pivotally attached to the car at its one end and at its other end it has preferably cone-shaped feeler means which engages a protrusion fixed adjacent to the track. A preferably vertical gravity based reference position is selected for the arm, and a sensing means for producting a direct current output signal proportional in magnitude to angular displacement of the arm from this position and corresponding in polarity to direction of displacement is provided.
Abstract: A carbonizing chamber is charged with powdered coal, and then the powdered coal is loaded down with a predetermined load from above with vibration to control the packing density of the powdered coal by means either of a pressing and vibrating member provided on a leveling beam body or a beam body arranged to act also as a pressing and vibrating member.
Abstract: A projectable device for aligning rail mounted equipment with track side structures, and, in particular, for aligning a coke oven door extractor, pusher ram, or jamb cleaner with a coke oven door. In one embodiment, a rod having an attached terminal fork is extended horizontally toward the door so as to indicate alignment when an attached aligning plate is engaged by the fork. The rod projects from a piston and cylinder combination, and it is automatically withdrawn if alignment is correct. In a second embodiment, an arm having an attached terminal fork is swung downwardly in a vertical arc to engage the aligning plate and thereafter automatically returned to its initial, vertical position, if alignment is correct.
Abstract: A regulating device for the flue housing of a coke oven for alternately opening and closing channels of the flue housing including a rotatable shaft, frames mounted on the shaft, preferably, 90.degree. relative to each other, in alternating sequence along the shaft, peripheral seals about the frames for sealing a channel when the frame is disposed across it. The seals are arcuate in configuration and lie on a circle having its center at the center axis of the shaft. Rotation of the shaft selectively opens and closes alternate channels of the flue housing.
