Abstract: A chemically activated lighting system is provided which serves to clearly mark an exit door or hatch as an emergency escape route. The system utilizes two chemical agents which when mixed together form a compound which radiates light. The agents are stored in a container which defines separate chambers for each agent. When the system is activated, the volume of each chamber is reduced, thereby forcing each agent into a mixing chamber where they are combined. The compound is then passed through a transparent conduit which is formed around the escape exit.

Abstract: A storage, admixing, and dispensing system is shown. The storage, admixing, and dispensing system has a first vessel for retaining a first substance. A support structure is coupled to and seals the first vessel, and a second vessel is coupled to the support structure for containing a second substance. A release mechanism is coupled to the support structure for releasing the second vessel from the support structure for combining the first substance with the second substance. The second vessel is internal to and retained within the first vessel. The release mechanism comprises a resilient material pushbutton which also seals the second vessel. The second vessel is also an agitator for combining the first substance and the second substance. Additionally, the first vessel is a dispensing apparatus for dispensing the admixture. Further included is a safety mechanism coupled to the resilient material pushbutton for preventing accidental operation of the release mechanism.

Abstract: A vial comprises a tubular syringe barrel (1) closed at one end (2) and open at the other, a stopper in the open barrel end formed by a piston head (4) of a syringe, and valve means (10) in the barrel between the stopper and the closed barrel end. The valve means (1) is normally closed and actuatable to an open condition by movement of the stopper into the barrel, and is slidable with the piston head (4) to the closed barrel end (2).

Abstract: The instant invention is directed to an improved package for securing a chemiluminescent lighting device in a storage condition. In particular, the packaging consists of a heat-shrinkable opaque jacket which protects the chemiluminescent chemicals from degradation by light while simultaneously providing rigidity to the device by use of a PVC film or the like thermo-wrap-plastic capable of blocking light and adhering to the outer shape of the chemiluminescent lighting device. Due to the extremely tight fit of the material around the lighting device coupled with the presence of a score line included in the wrap material, a fracture zone is created such that any impact or flexing sufficient to cause admixture of the chemiluminescent components will, in turn, cause the wrapping material to break at the score line and be instantaneously shed.

The other end of the inner tube is closed by a displaceable plug which may be displaced therefrom upon exertion of a predetermined compressive force caused, for example, by simultaneously squeezing the outer and inner containers. Displacement of the closure plug from the inner container enables the first and second materials to be mixed together.

(N-1) intermediate obturators (14) separate each compartment in a detachable manner from the compartment or compartments which are adjacent thereto when the N compartments are placed on one another. An actuator (18) is provided for ejecting the (N-1) intermediate obturators (14) for effecting the mixing of N constituents, and first end obturators (8) and second end obturators (9) are provided for obturating the end openings of the first compartment (22a) and of the N.sup.th compartment (24b). One of the first or second end obturators has an opening (26) for the dispensing of the mixture. The first and second ends of any of the N compartments can receive any of the said obturators.

Abstract: A container comprises a flexible main chamber and a mixing chamber positioned above the main chamber and including a passage way into the main chamber. A removable plug selectively seals the passage way so that after the main chamber is filled with a first material, the plug can be inserted into the passage way and the mixing chamber filled with a second material. A cap closes the mixing chamber and selectively engages the plug so that after the cap has been placed on the mixing chamber, removal of the cap will also unseal the passageway causing the tow materials to be mixed in the main chamber. A dispensing chamber having an outlet spout is also provided in the container. A filling tube within the container connects the main chamber to the dispensing chamber.

A movable, bottom end closure is provided for releasably closing the chamber bottom end opening. A deformable cover is mounted to the body to accommodate deformation from an undeformed condition at which the bottom end closure closes the chamber bottom end opening to a deformed condition at which the bottom end closure is engaged and moved by the cover to a position that opens the chamber bottom end opening.

The second vessel is internal to and retained within the first vessel. The release mechanism comprises a resilient material pushbutton which also seals the second vessel. The second vessel is also an agitator for combining the first substance and the second substance. Additionally, the first vessel is a dispensing apparatus for dispensing the admixture. Further included is a safety mechanism coupled to the resilient material pushbutton for preventing accidental operation of the release mechanism.

A dough preparation and baking station (24) having a slit (37, 41) at the top and bottom portions. Kneading devices (22, 24, 39, 43, 56) for mechanically working the ingredients in the mixbag. Devices for creating relative reciprocating movement between the mixbag and the slit openings and heating means (18, 20) in at least a portion of the dough preparation and baking station 25 so as to bake the kneaded ingredients. The kneading devices situated in the top and bottom portions of the apparatus, the top and bottom slits (37, 41) are each formed by a set of two adjacent members (22, 24, 39, 43, 56). Each member has a kneading surface (36, 38, 40, 42) defining the slit between each set and through which slit the mixbag passes.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for separate packaging of two components to be mixed on first use and for dispensing the resulting mixture, the device comprising two superposed containers capable of turning one relative to the other and suitable for communicating with each other, the components being separated during storage by a shutter having a plug connected to a holding member by at least one hinge-forming bridge of material, the device further including drive means for transforming relative rotation of the two containers into displacement of the plug causing the components to be mixed together. The two containers include sealing means independent of the shutter to provide sealing between them. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a device.

The container incorporates multiple compartments, separated by peelable seals, in which the diluents and medicaments are stored. The container is constructed of thermoplastic materials having high oxygen and moisture barrier properties which allows the container to be stored for extended periods of time without degrading the contents. The seals are ruptured by manipulation of the container to thereby mix the contents together for delivery through standard IV arrangement to a patient. The seals are constructed to provide a non-linear resistance characteristic to hydraulic pressure, which causes the seal to peel open completely along its length. The container is folded-over along the line of one of the seals and also includes a locking tab and retaining slot to secure the bag in a folded-over condition.

Abstract: A fluid mixing system is provided to permit rapid mixing of a prestored powdered substance such as powdered milk with a liquid in which, in one embodiment, baby bottles are stacked one atop the other in fluid communication, with an internally carried stemmed disk preventing powdered contents of the upper bottle from entering the liquid carried by the lower bottle until the stemmed disk is dislodged from the aperture between the bottles, the stemmed disk falling into the lower bottle such that the mixing can occur without opening or separating the two bottles. The invention thus allows the separate storage of two pre-measured fluent materials within the same container, and to facilitate the mixing and dispensing of those materials at a later time without opening the container. The benefits of this are that the user can prepare in advance mixtures of materials which, if stored in a combined state, will sour, harden, or otherwise become unusable without mixing the two ingredients until the time of use.

Abstract: A reusable insert designed for off-the-shelf covered containers, and more specifically for baby bottles. The insert forms a storage compartment and which keeps the ingredients separated in the container. It is designed to allow the ingredients to be mixed in the same container and dispensed without removing the cover from the container. The insert generally includes a dry chamber housing 30, a chamber seal 40, and a means to release the chamber seal such as a push rod 20. When used with a baby bottle, the insert slides into the bottle portion 50. A flange at the top of the dry chamber housing 30 prevents it from moving too far into the bottle and still allows the nipple assembly 10 to be attached directly to the bottle portion 50. When the nipple assembly 10 is screwed in place, the flange is pinched between the nipple assembly 10 and bottle portion 50, forming a leak-proof seal.

Abstract: A fluid sample receptacle provides a means of assuring uncontaminated, multiple samples of a fluid specimen. An upper or isolated sample chamber and a lower or primary sample chamber provide redundant test samples. A cover or lid with a downwardly extending column includes a stopper with a removable plug attached to automatically seal the lower sample chamber when the cover is sealed across the top of the upper chamber. This feature guarantees that the sample chambers are sealed or isolated simultaneously and that the test samples are therefore identical when taken. Tamper evident seals prove that either sample has not been contaminated. A preferred embodiment provides a bellows assembly to accommodate variations in ambient pressure and to provide a positive means of expelling a precise quantity of fluid from the receptacle for testing.

The package is characterized particularly in that the capsule (4) comprises two separate portions (5, 6) which are joined to each other along a continuous joining line by means of the temperature dependent bonding agent (10) and which are so arranged and disposed in the container (1) that they become mutually displaced and separated entirely, as the bonding agent has been made inactive by heating.

Abstract: A package for containing two automatic toilet bowl cleaners, one containing a bleaching cleaner and the other containing a detergent cleaner and a fragrance or dye susceptible to degradation by the bleaching agent, has separate pouches to separate the solids. The pouches open in concert to allow simultaneous dispensing of the solids. In operation, the water in the toilet cistern and bowl is cleaned both by the detergent and the bleaching agent, and the fragrance or dye is not affected by the bleaching agent.

Abstract: A dental amalgam mixing capsule including an inner capsule housed in an outer capsule. The inner capsule includes an elongated pestle telescopically extended into an open ended cap including a resilient, annular skirt formed with an annular sealing lip sized for frictional, gripping engagement with the pestle to define a storage chamber therebetween for storing a liquid component of the amalgam. The inner capsule may be made by subjecting the cap to a partial vacuum, inserting a charge of such liquid component therein, and registering one end of such pestle in sealing engagement with such sealing lip. Thus, when the assembly is returned to atmospheric pressure, the partial vacuum trapped in the cap will provide for a pressure differential across the pestle drawing it into the cap to fill the space therein.

Abstract: A dispersion apparatus for microgravity experiments comprises two blocks in face to face relationships, each having an array of wells for containing liquids and being relatively slidable so that the wells in one of the blocks can be brought into communication with corresponding wells in the other block. The blocks are held together by a retention mechanism which imparts a substantially constant pressure at the interface between the blocks. The retention mechanism comprises rails situated in grooves in the outside surfaces of the blocks and a series of coiled tension springs connected to the rails. The springs, acting through the rails, apply pressure to the blocks, but impart almost no force tending to cause the blocks to slide relative to each other. The blocks are guided by guide plates which cooperate with grooves in the mating faces of the blocks. An embodiment in which one of the blocks has a row of wells with optical windows, utilizes a guided camera to observe the interior of the wells.

Abstract: A flexible and dual-chambered container includes a first frontal sheet fusion bonded to a first rear sheet to define a first chamber for containing, for example, a medical liquid. The first frontal sheet is a flexible and transparent sheet for intercepting water, moisture, and oxygen gas. The first rear sheet is a flexible composite sheet composed of aluminum foil and a water-absorbing stratum. A second frontal sheet is fusion bonded to a second rear sheet to define a second chamber for containing, for example, a medical liquid. The second frontal and rear sheets are joined to the first frontal and rear sheets so that the first and second chambers are isolated by a breakable or weak seal. An opaque and flexible cover sheet composed of aluminum foil is removably disposed on the first frontal sheet. When the weak seal is broken by manually compressing the second chamber, the first and second chambers are brought into liquid communication.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a container for storing a quantity of cereal and milk, the container including an upper section, a lower section, a partition separating the upper and lower sections, and a spoon. The upper section has a vent hole therein. The lower section defines a second cavity dimensioned to contain a quantity of cereal therein. The lower section has two channels formed therein, the channels having a wide end and a narrow end. The partition is secured to the upper section forming a milk cavity for holding a quantity of milk therein. The partition is provided with a pair of ports therethrough which are adapted to permit the flow of milk out from the milk cavity. The partition is equipped with a pair of post members formed thereon. The post members have bulb shaped post heads at one end which are adapted to be received in the wide end of the channels in the lower section to releasably secure the two sections together.

Abstract: A syringe outer cylinder is split into a front chamber outer cylinder and a rear chamber outer cylinder. Powdered medicine is sealed in a sterilized state in the front chamber outer cylinder. Liquid medicine is sealed in a sterilized state in the rear chamber outer cylinder. Thereafter, the front chamber outer cylinder is coupled to the rear chamber outer cylinder with a coupling component, and the dual chamber prefillable syringe is assembled. Therefore, sealing of powdered medicine and liquid medicine can occur in parallel.

Abstract: An extension assembly fits between a tubular container of a baby bottle and a nipple end cap. The assembly includes a container body attached to the nipple end cap and having an internal chamber and a lower attaching structure connected to an upper open end of the tubular container and a release mechanism to control access by water in the tubular container to food material in the container body. The mechanism has a lower annular funnel sloping from an annular outer edge to an annular inner edge which defines a central opening aligned with the upper end of the tubular container. A central stopper structure supported by a lower open end of the container body is movable toward and away from the annular funnel structure as the container body moves within a sleeve extending upwards from the annular funnel structure. This movement prevents and permits access by water in the tubular container to the food material in the container body.

The top edge of the bag defines an open end and includes a reciprocally shaped edge to the bottom edge so that the bags can be cut from a continuous tube of material. The bag is filled with ingredients to be mixed through the open end and the ingredients are mixed by kneading the bag with the hands. The bag is closed prior to mixing. Once the ingredients are sufficiently mixed, the converging tip of the bag is removed and the contents are squeezed out from the bag. Prior to mixing, a closure device, or a twist applied to the bag, closes off the open end of the bag. Particular materials to be mixed are dental alginates and stones for making dental impressions. Other ingredients besides dental products can be mixed in the bag.

Abstract: A unit dose package has two chambers separated by a frangible seal. A liquid or solvent is provided in one of the chambers. An absorptive pad and powder are provided in the other chamber. The liquid and powder are stored separately, to avoid decomposition of the unstable mixture. In use, the first chamber is squeezed or rolled, bursting the seal, and driving the liquid into the second chamber, where it dissolves the powder and is absorbed by the pad. The package is peeled or torn open, and the pad is removed and applied to the skin.

Abstract: A two-chamber container for accommodating flowable substances separately from one another has an upper chamber and a lower chamber, a reduced diameter bottle which separates the chambers from one another and is provided with a plug in a plane of the reduced diameter, a rotary cap provided with a plunger and turnable so that the plunger is pressed from the plane of the reduced diameter into the lower chamber so as to bring both substances together. The rotary cap has a thread in the upper chamber, while the plunger has a threaded portion engaged in the thread of the rotary cap. The plunger is formed as a tubular plunger which has a first end and a second end formed so that in a base position the first end of the plunger is connected with the threaded portion of the plunger in fluid-tight manner and the second end of the plunger extends through the plug into the lower chamber, and the plunger is connected with the plug in fluid-tight manner.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical storage, mixing and dispensing vial (2, 3, 202, 250) is used to store first and second pharmaceuticals (58, 60), mix the pharmaceuticals, and then provide access to the mixed pharmaceutical (102) via a needle canula. The vial includes a container (12, 112) having an open end (14) covered by a convex septum (44, 140). A barrier (37, 204) within the container interior divides the interior into first and second interior regions (54, 56) housing the pharmaceuticals. The barrier has a plug (34, 206, 252) sealing a hole (30, 264), the plug having an extension (36, 208/210) extending to the septum. The plug is driven from the opening by the plug extension when the septum is deflected into the container interior. The septum then naturally returns to its undeflected state to eliminate pressurization of the container interior.

Abstract: A device for keeping two products in respective containers separate from one another, and for mixing them when desired for use. A seal including a sealing plate is connected to one of the containers, and a closure partition equipped with a seat is connected to the other of the containers. In a closed position, the sealing plate seals against the seat, but a relative translational displacement of the two containers moves the plate away from the seat, opens the seal, increases an internal volume of the assembly of the two containers, and allows the products to mix.

Abstract: A cartridge assembly for use in a pen-type medicament injector includes a cartridge for holding a medicament suspension with an open end and an opposite capped end configured to receive a needle therethrough to permit the exit of the medicament suspension, and includes a plunger sized to be received and to seal the open end and to be telescopically movable therein, and the plunger defining a top surface and including at least one monolithic mixing vane formed therefrom and extending from the top surface and inwardly of the cartridge when the plunger is sealingly engaged with the open end.

Abstract: The bottle (1) comprises a body (5) closed by a capsule (8). Within the capsule (8) there is a separator element (9) which closes its concavity to prevent mixing of the substances contained in the capsule (8) and in the body (5) respectively. To mix the substances the separator element (9) is removed by deforming the capsule (8).To prevent the bottle (1) being able to be opened without mixing of the substances having taken place, the outer surface (15) of the capsule (8) and the inner surface (6) of the container mouth (4) carry respectively an annular projection (14) and an undercut ledge (7) which mutually engage only by the effect of the radial expansion of the capsule (8) when the separator (9) is closed.

Abstract: Two-component packages for storing two components which are to be isolated from each other during storage and mixed when the package is opened. The packages comprise an outer container (2) for a first component having a threaded neck (3). A closure cap (5) is provided to close the threaded neck (3). A capsule (6) for a second component is located inside the outer container (2) and extends into the threaded neck (3) of the outer container (2). A first ratchet means extends downwardly from the base of the closure cap (5) and engages with a second ratchet means on the top part (7) of the capsule (6), whereby the closure cap (5) can be screwed down without rotating the said top part (7) of the capsule (6), but cannot readily be unscrewed without also rotating the said top part (7). A rotation block (13,14) prevents rotation of a lower part (11) of the capsule (6). As a result, unscrewing the closure cap (5) exerts a torsional force on the capsule (6).

The top container has a neck portion extending axially remote from the bottom wall. The neck has a helical thread to receive the cap. The neck includes a plurality of radially extending toothed projections about its perimeter. A tubular sleeve is disposed within the top container. The tubular sleeve is axially moveable with respect to the top container. The tubular sleeve has a first end and a second end.

Abstract: A bottle closure cap for two-component packings having a collar which extends into the bottleneck and bears a beaker via a thread of opposite direction to the bottle screw-on thread. For ease in manufacture and use, the invention proposes that the collar (9) which extends into the bottleneck continue on top in a collar wall (11) with internal thread (14) in order to receive and hold a lid (28).
