Patent number: 5085318Abstract: A folder for holding, displaying and securing a compact disc made from a single sheet of card stock. The rectangular sheet is folded into three equal rectangular sections and a semicircular section is cut out of one of the two end sections of the sheet leaving a semicircular tab at the center of the cut out section. The diameter of the semicircular cut out section is sized slightly larger than the diameter of the compact disc. Glue is applied to the end section of the sheet containing the cut out and that section is folded over and glued to the center section of the sheet, thus forming a pocket sized to receive one half of a compact disc. The semicircular tab is sized to cover that portion of the compact disc surrounding the hole in its center so that a plastic rivet passing through the semicircular tab, the hole in the disc and the center section of the sheet of card stock will secure the disc within the folder.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1990Date of Patent: February 4, 1992Inventor: Kathy L. Patent number: 5052564Abstract: Since they should not be stacked, display racks are generally used to hold such objects as compact discs, video discs, records and the like. In display racks compact discs can be displayed for sale, and for showing them at home. Because of their generally planar structures, originally discs and records were stored in bins or troughs. But the most desirable display racks are those which display and advertise the articles as well as store them. In view of the art work which is customarily utilized on envelopes or jackets in which such objects are sold it is beneficial to aesthetically exhibit them. This is done by disposing them adjacent each other in registered relationship relative to each other in an aesthetically desirable display so that they are arranged side-by-side in picture fashion. The disadvantage of such displays is that in such arrangements individual discs are quite difficult to remove because of their proximity to each other and to the shelves which hold them.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1989Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Inventor: John D. Zuzack

A pivotal retaining member defined by and hingedly connected to the bottom wall of the base section may be pivoted upwardly to engage the lid member and divide the compartment region into a pair of subcompartments each having different lengths.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1988Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: Liberty Diversified IndustriesInventors: Joseph R. Patent number: 4798284Abstract: A box for storing thin slightly compressible objects, in particular floppy disks, has an inner part and an outer part. In an open position of the box, the inner part is substantially upright for support of the disks in a position for selection of one of them. The inner part has a foot member beneath the disks and a stem member behind the disks. A movable member is pivoted at pins to the inner part at a position spaced above the foot. This member has a lower portion beneath the pivot pins and an upper portion thereabove. On movement of the upper portion away from the stem member, the lower portion moves crosswise of the foot and compresses the disks locally between itself and the stem which acts as a reaction member. This action causes the disks to fan out above the pivot pins for selection among them. The upper portion of the movable member restrains the disks from falling forwards out of the box.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1987Date of Patent: January 17, 1989Inventor: Thomas C. V. Wakelin

Patent number: 4796755Abstract: A system for protecting magnetic or optical media stored therein includes a disposable holder that is sized and arranged to accommodate the magnetic or optical media receptacles used with a particular data and record storage system. The holder can be changed to accommodate various sizes and shapes of such receptacles. The holder is removably received in a container which is also removably received in a shield. The shield protects the media from x-rays, magnetic fields, etc, and is received in a carrying case. The carrying case, the container and the shield are sized according to the longest magnetic or optical media receptacle to be contained in the system, and the holder is changed as necessary. A method of storing and protecting business records and data is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1987Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Inventor: Angelo M. Ardenti

Patent number: 4793479Abstract: The holder tray for compact disc of the invention has a disc-engagement structure capable of holding a disc mounted thereon very reliably still with little resistance against demounting of the disc therefrom. The disc-engagement structure has a center pushing part raised above the center opening and connected with a plurality of radially arranged connecting pieces each in a cranked confuguration connecting the central pushing part and the periphery of the center opening, the riser parts collectively forming a cylindrical surface to contact with the inner periphery of the center hole of a compact disc mounted thereon. Further, a plurality of radially arranged flap pieces extend from the center pushing part each in a cantilever-like manner and each between two connecting pieces and, when the pushing part is pushed down, the free ends of the flap pieces are raised so as to push up the disc facilitating demounting thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1988Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Shin-Estu Polymer Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chusaburo Otsuka, Toshitsugu Yajima

Patent number: 4790926Abstract: A storage tray has opposed first sets of spaced ribs forming parallel compartments and a second set of shorter ribs transversely disposed between the first sets of ribs with the spacing being one first rib and one adjacent second rib being sized to slidably receive one single compact audio disc box, so that two single compact audio disc boxes fit every compartment. The shorter ribs are formed with guide flanges. Two adjacent single boxes may be removed, and then one dual audio disc box is received in the compartment between adjacent first ribs, and with the second rib being slidably and guidingly received in the back recess of a conventional dual audio disc box. The storage tray is self-interlocking with another storage tray so as to form a self-contructing cabinet.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1987Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: Patrick MastronardoInventors: Patrick Mastronardo, Fu-Jung Liu

Patent number: RE33361Abstract: A carrier for substrate and media disk members is disclosed having a base member with upstanding side and end walls and a top surface having a media supporting recess projecting downwardly and including a plurality of continuous semi-circular V-shaped grooves each subtending an angle of less than 180 degrees. Locating means are provided along one side of the carrier for locating the carrier with respect to disk handling equipment. The carrier is provided with a transparent lid having side and end walls respectively telescopically enclosing side and end walls of the base member. The base member has elongate indentations for engaging the top surface of the lid member on which the base member is stacked, and the lid member is provided with elongate upwardly projecting support ridges which contact the underside of the base member stacked thereon.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1988Date of Patent: October 2, 1990Inventor: Thomas U.
