Abstract: Apparatus capable of storing or displaying a plurality of compact discs, cassettes or other similar objects is disclosed. The apparatus includes a housing and a plurality of pivotable members rotatably positioned therein. Each pivotable member may hold one or more objects, each object being positioned within a compartment in the pivotable member. In one embodiment, each pivotable member includes a base plate, a rear wall, a pair of side walls, and a pair of members which together form a front wall. The front wall members cooperate with the rear wall, which may include clamping ribs, to provide a clamping force which substantially fixedly positions the compact discs within the pivotable member so that the display rack may be positioned throughout a range extending from substantially horizontal to substantially vertical. The clamping force may be adjusted by varying the dimensions and geometry of a slot associated with the clamping means.

Abstract: The cartridge comprises a shutter for closing the openings (18) for access to the disk on the two faces thereof. The shutter is formed by a hollow bar (24) carrying two closure plates (21) and slidable in both directions along a guide (26) adjacent to an edge 19 of the cartridge. A tension spring (28) which passes through the hollow bar 24 is connected to two blocks 30 which are slidable in the guide (26) and which are arranged to be entrained by the bar (24). The trailing block cannot follow the bar because a tongue (31) on the block abuts the end of an elongated lug (32) extending along the central part of the guide (26).The reading device comprises a case for receiving the cartridge and a lever which is rotated when the cartridge is inserted and carries an element for pushing the shutter aside. Abstract: The subject invention provides an improved structure for a laser disc storage container (10) which allows for laser discs contained within container (10) to be easily displayed, removed and inserted with a minimum of effort, while simultaneously maintaining a minimum volume for the container (10). The overall concept is directed to disc envelopes (30) being fixedly secured to spring member appendages (22) of spring mechanisms (20). The spring member appendages (22) are biased at individual angles to a spring base portion (24) to allow individual disc envelopes (30) to be rotated to individual display angles when the container (10) is opened.

Abstract: A tray is constructed for storing a plurality of diskette holders, each holder having different identifying indicia thereon, and the tray bottom being stepped so that each identifying indicia is viewable from the front of the tray. The diskette holders are in the form of a book with inside pouches to protect and store a plurality of diskettes. Both the diskette holder and tray combination is formed essentially entirely of transparent thermoplastic material.

Abstract: An insertable drawer member configured and dimensioned for receiving and storing digitally coded discs within an outer housing in a manner which ensures that information bearing areas of said discs are not damaged during insertion or removal therefrom, the insertable drawer member comprising: a base at least partially defined by a pair of opposed side walls, having upon its surface a semicircular groove configured for the insertion of a portion of the digitally coded disc by pressure contact, wherein only a non-information-bearing surface portion of the disc is ever contacted by the drawer member. The drawer member further comprises a lid integrally formed with the base and provided upon at least a portion of a front face thereof with a serrated gripping area to facilitate grasping and moving the drawer member to access the disc. Abstract: A retainer for holding and protecting an optical disk is molded from plastic, to form a thin, flat, rectangular base member having a shallow rectangular cavity in the front surface thereof. A shallow circular cavity is centrally located within the rectangular cavity. The disk is resiliently held within the circular cavity, and can be removed by finger lifting. The retainer's top edge includes a hook recessed into its flat top edge. This hook allows the retainer to be vertically hung from, and perpendicular to, a horizontal storage rod. The retainer includes short, spaced posts located within the top portion of the rectangular cavity. A flat storage envelope mounts on these posts, to overlay the disk's exposed surface. The two external, vertically extending side walls of the base each include a flat, protruding, label surface located at the center of the side wall. Two flat box shaped containers are provided. One container holds a single retainer.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a carrier for a data storage disk. Such carrier comprises means for releasably capturing a disk so that it may be removed by a suitable disk release mechanism and used at a location spaced from the carrier, thereby avoiding any potential for disk damage due to contact with the carrier during disk rotation, and avoiding the need to precisely locate the carrier with a disk drive unit. Preferably, the carrier features enabling disk release are located so the disk release can be effected by the same disk-releasing mechanism no matter which of four different orientations the disk carrier has when inserted into the disk drive unit.

Abstract: In a multisectional storage container, especially a storage box for the storage of plate- or disk-shaped items, such as compact disks or diskettes, for example, it is proposed that individual storage sleeves be interconnected one with the other in an articulated manner by means of interconnecting means in such a manner that the sequence of sleeves can be opened in the nature of a parallelogram mechanism or in an accordian-like manner, thus enabling all of the items that are contained therein to immediately be visually inspected and identified and/or manually removed. By subsequently collapsing the individual storage sleeves of the storage box, it is possible to house them in a minimum of space, without any clearance one between the other, and, if desired, to store them in a dust-tight manner by means of an enveloping enclosure.

Abstract: Disclosed is a guard and carrying system for compact discs. The system includes a collapsible enclosure having a mouth portion, extensible side portions, a V-shaped vertex portion, and a secureable fold-over cover. Also included is an accordion-like integral series of V-shaped storage elements. These elements include an elongated, substantially rigid, yet foldable substrate. They further include an integral sleeve having a longitudinal axis and enveloping the substrate, trapping air in a planar geometry, and several outer sleeve segments disc-proportioned and disposed about the integral sleeve holding air between these segments and the integral sleeve. A plurality of linear heat seals are disposed transversely to the longitudinal axis of the integral sleeve. The heat seals bond the outer segments to the integral sleeve to define a pattern of pockets adapted for the holding of discs and disc-related documentation.

Abstract: A one-piece retail container removably secures a substantially rigid item, such as a compact disc jewel box, in a securing well. The retail container includes a vertically elongated frame forming sides, top and bottom of the retail container and a front plate, integrally formed with the frame, having front and rear surfaces. The vertically elongated frame forms side and bottom walls of a securing well into which a first aperture of the front plate opens. The front plate forms securing well ledges for restraining the substantially rigid item from passing through the front plate from the securing well. Securing well tabs are integrally formed with the frame at the side and bottom walls of the securing well for restraining the substantially rigid item from moving in a rearward direction, while a center rib is integrally formed on the rear surface, of the front plate at the top of the securing well.

Abstract: The disclosure herein sets forth a closed electronic media container having a hinged top portion and a bottom portion with a partially removable frontal wall. The hinged top portion is hinged to the bottom portion along a truncated interface sloping from the back to the front to expose electronic media therein. The top portion rests on the bottom portion when it is canted backwardly on an interfacing surface. The frontal wall breaks away from the angular corners of the side walls on the bottom portion of the container on a flexed resilient basis to expose electronic media therein and is retained by two ledges on either side of the bottom portion of the container in tightened juxtaposition thereto, after cooling of the unit when it is injection molded and the frontal wall is inserted therein for frictional engagement.

From a cardboard blank is initially produced a book cover with a round back part, followed by the production of a foil-lined print covering, which is provided with a system impression and is then connected to the book cover. Abstract: The invention discloses a system for the organized storage of a large number of sheet- or disk-like record carriers, particularly of diskettes or microfiches. A container for holding the record carriers has a printed form that has line markings corresponding to a number of record carriers which have additional line markings on their outside edges. The line markings located on the edge of the record carrier are aligned with matching line markings on a printed form on the container. Several containers can be stacked or arranged side-by-side by attachments on the outside surfaces of the containers in order to combine the system simply and easily with other systems of this type into appropriate blocks. A locking plate also can be provided.

Abstract: A storage case and holder combination has an ejection spring which urges an inserted holder outward. The holder is retained by a resilient latching arm having a pin which engages in a latching groove that deflects the pin in two orthogonal directions during insertion and latching. To keep the pin from resiliently moving out of the groove in response to a pull on the holder, a stop on the storage case prevents movement of the pin in the undesired direction while the holder is in the latched position. Abstract: A storage device for storing a plurality of disc-shaped articles, or discs includes a support having a support surface for supporting the discs. The support includes bias means to bias the discs towards rolling along the support. The device further includes releasable restraining means to restrain the discs against rolling under the effect of the bias means. In one embodiment of the invention, the support surface of the support includes a sloping portion which provides the bias means in the form of a gravity bias. In another embodiment of the invention, the support includes a hinged portion pivotally mounted on a floor of the device, and the bias means is a spring bias acting between the floor and the hinged portion.

Abstract: A recording disc enclosure is disclosed, having semi-rigid top and bottom portions, with adjoining sides forming an enclosed space therebetween. An aperature sized to pass a recording disc therethrough is disposed through one side of the enclosure. A closure strip is disposed to cover the aperature in the closed position, and to be manually biased along a top and bottom guide path to extend substantially beyond the profile of the enclosure in the open position. The closure strip, when in the open position may be biased to rotate approximately 90 degrees to an open position in alignment with one of the sides adjoining the aperture side. Top or bottom portions of the enclosure may be transparent to provide a visual indication of the contents of the enclosure. Alternately visual symbols may be disposed upon the top or bottom portion of the enclosure, and preferably upon at least one side, to provide identification of the contents of the enclosure.

The first and second recesses receive the cassette's thicker portion in combination when the case is closed by the first and second cover. With the inventive case, the space required for storing the cases is smaller than that required for storing the same number of conventional ones.

Abstract: A digital audio disk enclosure is disclosed, having a semi-rigid generally rectangular top and bottom portions, with sided disposed about the periphery of the top and bottom portions to form an enclosed space therebetween. An elongated aperature is disposed through one side, of a size sufficient to pass a digital audio disk therethrough. Guide means are disposed within the enclosed space in aligned spaced relation substantially along the aperature side and one adjoining side. A flexible closure strip is disposed within the guide means, with a tab disposed near one end of the closure strip, suitable to be manually biased between open and closed positions. Ribs, inclined ramps, or guide means extending above top portion and below bottom portion are disclosed for ease of removing the digital audio disk from the enclosure. The digital audio disk enclosure is preferably sized to receive a pamphlet and a digital audio disk within the enclosed space.

Abstract: A disc reproducing apparatus for reproducing a disc which is received in a disc case, and on which optical information data are recorded. The disc case can be set into the reproducing apparatus with the disc received in the disc case. When set into the reproducing apparatus, while the disc case is fixed in position within the reproducing apparatus, the disc is driven in rotation and thus the optical information data are reproduced by the reproducing apparatus.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for in-process storage of a stack of molded discs which is comprised of a rigid base member and inflatable tubular member attached to the base member which can be inflated so as to hold the stack of discs placed on the base member securely in position and protected from physical damage during storage.
