  • Patent number: 4813174
Abstract: A lure container for holding a scented lure in an insect trap includes a basket formed by spaced apart webs defining a volume of space for enclosing the lure. The volume is a truncated conical section and the basket has a wide opening at one end of the section. Attached to a top peripheral edge of the basket is a lid that is hinged along one section of the edge. The opposite edge has a tab that extends outwardly for mounting the basket in the trap. The basket and lid are both formed by spaced apart webs and ends of the webs of the lid extend into space in the webs of the basket, to block the opening and confine the lure. The lure container or basket is placed in the housing of an insect trap wherein the basket is spaced away from all of the interior walls of the trap by the tab extending from the peripheral edge of the basket.

  • Patent number: 4806369
Abstract: A device for brewing a beverage comprises a chamber for containing a beverage-making substance, which prevents compaction of substance, wherein the chamber extends a substantial distance above the beverage-making substance. The beverage-making substance, such as ground roasted coffee beans, is retained within the brewer by filters installed in openings at the base and upper ends of the chamber. Seals are secured over the base and upper end openings to preserve the freshness of the beverage-making substance. A user prepares a beverage by removing the seals and moving the device with an up and down motion through water in a cup. The upper end of the brewer is open to the atmosphere, and a pressure head develops between the upper and lower portions of the brewer which greatly increases water flow through the substance.

  • Patent number: 4806261
Abstract: A detersive article, useful for charging an automatic washing machine with particulate built synthetic organic detergent composition, includes a detersive charge of such particulate composition in a closed container or packet which is formed by sealing about such composition a sheet or sheets of readily water dispersible water soluble cellulose compound and cellulose fibers, which is coated and/or covered or laminated with water soluble polyvinyl alcohol on interior surfaces thereof. The packet material dissolves or disperses rapidly when the packet is added to wash water in an automatic washing machine, and thereby releases contained detergent composition to the wash water earlier in the washing process than do other "dissolvable packets" which are made of polyvinyl alcohol.

  • Patent number: 4602557
Abstract: The improved cup comprises a closed bottom and connected closed sidewall defining a central brewing liquid-retaining space and an open top. The liquid may be, for example, tea, herb tea, etc. The upper end of the sidewall defines an exposed rim having a brew bag string-retaining notch extending down therein. The notch prevents the entire length of the bag string and the bag string end tab from being inadvertently drawn down into the cup liquid during and after brewing of the liquid. Thus, there is no occasion to fish a wet bag string and tab from the liquid. Instead, the tab remains dry and accessible outside the cup, thus readily available for withdrawing the bag from the cup when desired. The notch can also serve as a vent hole for the cup when the cup is inverted after washing. The notch can be of any suitable string- and tab-retaining configuration.

  • Patent number: 4588080
Abstract: A unitary package for use in the washing and in the conditioning treatment of fabrics in a laundering operation. There is provided a packet in which a multi-layer plug-like laminate is contained in and is bonded within a cup-like water-insoluble and water-impermeable receptacle having an open top. The laminate presents an exposed upper surface to the wash water in the tub of a washing machine. Only after the materials (for example, detergents) in the top layer of the laminate have dissolved and dispersed does the washing water reach to solubilize the second layer containing the fabric conditioner (for example, a fabric softener). Thus, the article of the invention ensures the simple and highly reliable manner time-spaced sequential incorporation of two different functional agents into a fabric washing system, even though the agents are added simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4572360
Abstract: The herb package described is made of a synthetic foil having therein plural perforations for allowing fluids, but not solids, to exit and/or enter the package. The perforations are formed by needling, created inward or outward deformation of the foil at each puncture point, whereby each perforation tends to act as a one-way valve in a direction corresponding to the direction of needle penetration. Some of the perforations are formed by inward needling, some by outward needling, so that pressure cycling pumps water through the package contents.

  • Patent number: 4567675
Abstract: A device for conditioning fabrics in the tumble-dryer comprises a powdered conditioning agent inside a permeable container, for example a sachet of paper, nonwoven fabric or plastics film, which in turn is inside an outer, substantially form-retaining, apertured container. The outer container is of a shape, for example, spherical, which allows ready movement among the tumbled fabrics. As it moves, the article gives more uniform and efficient conditioning than articles in the form of a sheet substrate impregnated with a solid conditioning agent.

  • Patent number: 4558781
Abstract: An anchoring cartridge for use in anchor bolting in a rock substrate such as an underground mine roof comprises a frangible casing formed from a liquid-impermeable material, the casing containing a particulate liquid-settable solid component, such as a hydraulic cement, which is in contact with a longitudinally extending absorbent material preferably both ends of which communicate with, or are adapted to communicate with, the exterior of the cartridge so that when the cartridge is immersed in an activating liquid for the solid component, such as water, the liquid is drawn into the cartridge by the absorbent material and thereby comes into contact with the solid component over its whole length within the casing. This helps to assist in the formation of a self-setting grouting composition of substantially uniform strength when the cartridge is used in a borehole drilled in the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4555019
Abstract: The present invention comprises apparatus and process for laundering textiles based upon utilizing quantities of an aqueous liquid wash liquor in the wash step ranging from, at least, just enough to be substantially evenly and completely distributed onto all portions of the textiles to, at most, about 5 times the dry weight of the textiles to be laundered. This results in an extremely efficient use of the detergent composition. The present invention also comprises novel wash liquor and detergent compositions for use in said apparatus and process.

  • Patent number: 4555354
Abstract: A detergent-containing water-insoluble closed bag is so constructed as to open and discharge its contents under mechanical action in a washing machine in use. The seams of the bag may be heat-sealed or cold pressure sealed such that at least one seam will burst open in use. The bag material may be porous with a pore size selected to minimize dusting of the detergent. The bag material may include a thermoplastic component to enable heat-sealing. The bag may contain conventional detergent compositions and/or other fabric treatment materials. These products give consumer benefits both by way of improved efficiency in the use of the detergent compositions and in greater convenience in use.

  • Patent number: 4552752
Abstract: An improved article of a membrane permeable to water and impermeable to microbiocidal compounds containing therein a solid particulate microbiocidal composition which is useful in aqueous systems, wherein the composition is produced from aqueous solutions of a water-soluble microbiocidal compound absorbed in an inert, finely-divided water-insoluble solid carrier. Especially useful are microbiocidal 3-isothiazolones and 2-substituted-1,2-benzisothiazolones, and metal salt stabilized derivatives thereof, absorbed into a silicaceous diatomaceous earth in a sealed, perforated membrane, for example, a perforated bag, produced from polyethylene. These articles afford a form, which is safer for handling.

  • Patent number: 4551336
Abstract: An improved infusion bag for preparing an infusion of tea or other infusible substances, comprising a sachet member of liquid-permeable sheet material and a pull string. The pull string is joined at the upper apex of the sachet. At least one ventilative slit is provided below the joint point of the string and the upper apex of the sachet. The sachet can be folded into a generally tetragonal shape. After steeping, and by the action of withdrawing and submerging, the infusible substance swells and sinks to the lower apex of the sachet. The improved infusion bag makes the infusible substance less compacted and overcomes the constraint due to the capillarity of the liquid-permeable sheet material itself and the interface capillarity of the mass of the infusible substance. This gives a higher quantity and higher concentration of infusion liquor.
