Patent number: 6858131Abstract: Feed oil is subject to atmospheric distillation, to thereby be separated into light oil or light distillate and atmospheric residue oil. The light distillate is catalytically contacted with pressurized hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, resulting in a first hydrotreating step being executed. In this instance, various fractions of the light distillate produced in the atmospheric distillation are subject to hydrotreating in a lump. The atmospheric residue oil is then separated into a light matter and a heavy matter. The light matter is subject to second hydrotreating in the presence of a catalyst to produce refined oil (light matter), which is mixed with refined oil produced in the first hydrotreating to prepare a mixture. The mixture is used as gas turbine fuel oil.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1999Date of Patent: February 22, 2005Assignee: JGC CorporationInventors: Tsuyoshi Okada, Yoshinori Mashiko, Shinichi Tokuda, Tomoyoshi Sasaki, Kozo Imura, Makoto Inomata, Toshio Tanuma

Publication number: 20040000506Abstract: A light cracked naphtha is treated to convert mercaptans to sulfides and saturate dienes and then subjected to destructive hydrodesulfurization (HDS) to convert the organic sulfur compounds to hydrogen sulfide. The recombinant mercaptans formed by reaction of hydrogen sulfide and olefins at the outlet of the HDS are generally heavier than the light cracked naphtha is fractionated in admixture with a heavy cracked naphtha. A low sulfur content light cracked naphtha is produced as an overheads and the major portion of the mercaptans leave with heavy cracked naphtha as bottoms. It also advantageous to pass the heavy cracked naphtha through the HDS in admixture with the light cracked naphtha, since the recombinant mercaptans formed with the heavy cracked naphtha olefins (which displace some of the lower mercaptans which would form the light cracked naphtha olefins) will be even higher boiling and easier to separate by fractionation.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2002Publication date: January 1, 2004Applicant: CATALYTIC DISTILLATION TECHNOLOGIESInventors: Gary G. The feedstock is contacted with an olefin-modification catalyst in a reaction zone under conditions which are effective to produce an intermediate product which has a reduced amount of olefinic unsaturation relative to that of the feedstock as measured by bromine number. The intermediate product is then separated into fractions of different volatility, and the lowest boiling fraction is contacted with a hydrodesulfurization catalyst in the presence of hydrogen under conditions which are effective to convert at least a portion of its sulfur-containing impurities to hydrogen sulfide.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2000Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Assignee: BP Corporation North America Inc.Inventors: Vivek R. Patent number: 6596157Abstract: The invention relates to a method and dual reactor system for hydrotreating a wide cut cat naphtha stream comprising heavy cat naphtha (HCN) and intermediate cat naphtha (ICN). Accordingly, a HCN fraction is hydrotreated under non-selective hydrotreating conditions and an ICN fraction is hydrotreated under selective hydrotreating conditions. The hydrotreated HCN and ICN effluents may be conducted to heat exchangers to pre-heat the ICN feed, obviating the need for a furnace.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2001Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Brij Gupta, John P. Patent number: 6596914Abstract: A multi-step process for desulfurizing liquid petroleum fuels that also removes nitrogen-containing compounds and aromatics. The process steps are: thiophene extraction; thiophene oxidation; thiophene-oxide and -dioxide extraction; raffinate solvent recovery and polishing; extract solvent recovery; and recycle-solvent purification. The thiophene oxidation is accomplished with hydrogen peroxide and the extraction solvent is acetic acid in combination with secondary solvents. The operating conditions in the process are relatively mild at near ambient pressure and less than 145° C. throughout the process, and the only chemical consumed in the process is hydrogen peroxide. The process design can be modified to accommodate a variety of liquid hydrocarbon feeds.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2001Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Inventors: Walter Gore, Steve Bonde, Geoffrey E. Publication number: 20030116474Abstract: Savings in the processing of a naphtha boiling range feed containing a thiophene are achieved by fractionating the feed stream in a single dividing wall column to yield a C6-minus overhead stream, a side-draw containing the majority of the C6 and C7 paraffins and olefins, and a bottoms stream comprising C7 and heavier hydrocarbons. A dividing wall column provides better control of the concentration of both thiophene and toluene in the side-draw. Less of the valuable naphtha is lost and the amount of thiophene in the overhead product is minimized.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2002Publication date: June 26, 2003Inventors: Gavin P. Patent number: 6554993Abstract: A membrane process for the removal of sulfur species from a naphtha feed, in particular, a FCC light cat naphtha, without a substantial loss of olefin yield is disclosed. The process involves contacting a naphtha feed stream with a membrane having sufficient flux and selectivity to separate a sulfur deficient retentate fraction from a sulfur enriched permeate fraction, preferably, under pervaporation conditions. Sulfur deficient retentate fractions are useful directly into the gasoline pool. Sulfur-enriched permeate fractions are rich in sulfur containing aromatic and nonaromatic hydrocarbons and are further treated with conventional sulfur removal technologies, e.g. hydrotreating, to reduce sulfur content. The process of the invention provides high quality naphtha products having a reduced sulfur content and a high content of olefin compounds.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: W.R.
