    Abstract: A dewatering device comprised of a multiple drum and conveyor system, the device has two or more roller drums about which an endless supporting belt is located to provide a movable supporting area between the rollers. The belt supports a filter medium which also passes about the rollers. The belt has a number of apertures allowing passage of liquid through the filter medium and below the belt. The belt is also formed with a series of transverse troughs which help guide the mixture toward the apertures situated in the troughs. A vacuum chamber (i.e. a “suction box”) is placed under the belt between the rollers and forms a pressure gradient through the cloth and belt to suck the liquid from the mixture via the cloth and apertures.

    Abstract: A pressure filtration system for cleaning residual quenching water of a gasifying device that gasifies carbon-containing fuels under elevated pressure is provided. The soot water from the quencher is passed to a filter system, which has pressure filter chambers operating alternately in filtering mode under gasifying pressure or in cleaning mode. The filtrate from these chambers is passed to a quenching water reservoir, from which the quencher is fed with quenching water. Only small temperature and pressure losses with respect to the residual quenching water leaving, and only a small additional amount of energy has to be expended to overcome the remaining pressure difference to bring the filtrate that is to be returned back to the gasifying pressure. The residual quenching water is cleaned substantially under gasifying pressure in a pressure filter, avoids flash evaporation of the residual quenching water into the vacuum area, with vapour cooling and a subsequent increase in pressure and reheating.

If oil or bitumen is mixed with water due to tar sands processing, then the material can extract the oil or the water depending on a balance of oleophilic or hydrophilic properties of the material. The extracted matter and the medium can proceed to further processing such as water purification and/or petroleum refining. This invention collects matter in an economically and environmentally viable manner.
