Drum Type Patents (Class 210/402)
  • Patent number: 6655531
Abstract: An assembly for separating solid phase material from a slurry that comprises a pressurized filtration unit including a vessel and filter media. A slurry is fed to the filtration unit where it is separated into a solid phase material and a liquid phase material. The filtration unit has a solid outlet for discharging the solid phase material to a material transport. The material transport moves the solid phase material to a depressurizing chamber that has a lower pressure than the filtration unit. As the solid phase material enters the depressurizing chamber it is exposed to the lower pressure of that chamber. The material transport maintains the pressure difference between the filtration unit and the chamber. Subsequently, the depressurized solid phase material can be conveyed to other equipment for drying or other processing.

  • Patent number: 6631810
Abstract: The arrangement is for washing and dewatering a fiber pulp suspension. The arrangement comprises two hollow, circular-cylindrical screen members that have evacuation chambers arranged inside the screen members for leading off liquid. The screen members rotate counter to each other to form a nip. At least one of the screen members is arranged in a trough that partially encloses the jacket of the screen member and, in the direction of rotation of the screen member, converges towards the jacket of the screen member. A sealing arrangement for a pulp head box distributes the pulp onto the jacket surface of the screen members. By forming a progressively decreasing gap B-A at the pulp head box counter to the rotation of the screen member, a simple self-sealing of the pulp suspension can be obtained which allows fiber residues to be returned to the dewatering zone.

The debris is collected in a holding bin located under the brush. The system uses a collector to remove debris from the holding bin when it is filled. In this way, debris is removed completely from the intake, rather than merely brushing it from the drum into the water flow, where it is immediately sucked onto the drum again. The brush rotates the drum as it turns on the surface. This action flicks the debris from the drum into the holding bin. This action automatically removes debris as the drum is working. Other features of the device include a framework for placing and operating the drum and the collection system.

  • Patent number: 6267889
Abstract: The invention relates to a filter assembly for producing a paste-like filter cake and a substantially solids free filtrate or permeate. The filter assembly includes a substantially cylindrical member having an exterior foraminous surface, the cylindrical member being mounted on an elongate shaft for rotating the surface about an axis defined by the shaft. The exterior foraminous surface is covered by a microporous filter media. A stationary housing is positioned adjacent a portion of the exterior surface of the cylindrical member. The stationary housing includes a filter feed inlet and a sealing device and is spaced from the exterior surface a distance sufficient to enable cross flow relative to the filter media. Unique filter seal members promote retention of fluid to be filtered in a filtration area defined by the housing and cylindrical member. As the cylindrical member is rotated about the axis, a cake removal or membrane cleaning device removes filter cake from the filter media.

  • Patent number: 6227379
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently separating solids from liquid/solid slurries are disclosed. The slurry to be separated is retainably placed within a container having one or more lift paddles secured within its inner cavity. The container is supported for rotation about an axis and has drive means for slowly rotating the container. As the container rotates, the lift paddles lift a portion of the retained slurry, allowing the liquid portion to fall back into the primary slurry pool to be separated, and lifting coarse solids toward the top of the rotation path of the paddles. The separated solids slide by gravity from the lift paddles as they approach the top of their rotation paths and into a collection tray. A filter that rotates with the container filters fine solids from the liquid portion of the slurry and also deposits the fine solids on the collection tray. The filtered liquids can be readily pumped from or recirculated to the separator.

  • Patent number: 6183653
Abstract: An apparatus for removing sludge is applied to a generally cylindrical filter for use in an electric discharge machine. The filter removes sludge in a process solution used in the electric discharge machine by flowing the process solution from an inner periphery surface to an outer periphery surface and/or the outer periphery surface to the inner periphery surface of the filter. A filter support device holds the filter rotatively with the central axis thereof as the central figure and inclining the central axis by a predetermined angle to the horizontal direction. The filter support device also includes cams for providing rotational driving force and successive impactive force to the filter. A motor provides rotational driving force to the cams. Sludge storage may receive the sludge falling from the filter. The filter support device may further alternate the inclined direction of the filter in a predetermined cycle by rotating with an axis perpendicular to the central axis as the central figure.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for clearing product, e.g., sugar, from the inside of a centrifuge basket of a discontinues centrifuge. A scraper blade, which is attached to a clearing rod, is pivoted toward the spun-off layer of product. The scraper blade scrapes off the product with a cutting edge, which is directed in a direction that is opposite to the direction of rotation of the basket. To optimize the product removal, it is preferable if the scraper blade, after it has been pivoted inward, contacts the product over virtually the entire height of the basket and at the same time scrapes off the product from the layer of product which is rotating at the clearing rotational speed in layers over the entire height of the basket. Once the product has been substantially completely removed from the basket, the scraper blade is pivoted back away from the basket wall.

Abstract: A self-cleaning fuel oil strainer, coupled to a continuous fuel flow, that includes a pair of canisters, each having a cylindrical wedge wire fuel oil filter screen. An elongated brush running the length of the screen is disposed between two confining walls also running the length of the screen to form a chamber. A elongated partition, including two sets of apertures, is used, along with the elongated brush, to divide the chamber into two particulate dislodge chambers and a drain subchamber. A drain is in fluid communication with the drain subchamber. During cleaning, the drain is opened and the screen is rotated against the brush for liberating the particulate contaminants and a limited amount of fuel oil into the two dislodge subchambers. The particulate contaminants and the limited amount of fuel oil then pass through the apertures at a high velocity and into the drain subchamber which exits through the drain.

  • Patent number: 6136202
Abstract: A system for filtering fluids uses the pressure differential across a filter element between an internal filter volume and an external filter volume to control the rate of fluid flow through the filter element. The internal filter volume communicates with a backwash volume contained in the external filter volume. The backwash volume may be movable relative to the filter element to clean accumulated filtrate from the filter element through backwashing. By increasing the pressure in the internal filter volume, the rate of backwashing can be increased while the rate of fluid flow into the internal filter volume is decreased. Particularly when the filter element becomes clogged, damage to a filter caused by an excessive pressure differential across the filter element may be decreased.
