    Abstract: In prior pressure washer drums, the filter deck was supported on the central shaft by spokes welded to the central hub which was in turn welded to the shaft. The extreme forces caused premature failure of the welded joints. The present invention provides a pressure washer drum in which sandwiched parallel plates having an array of apertures replace the spokes and central pipe and journals are supported on the hub by a bolting system rather than by welding.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving the operation of a vacuum drum filter. A hollow and perforated shower roll is located at the top of a vacuum drum apparatus for drying and cleaning paper pulp. The interior of the shower roll is provided with a liquid distribution pipe having a plurality of spaced openings therealong, the pipe also having a substantially vertically extending dam which extends radially to adjacent the lower interior surface of the shower roll. In operation, rotation of the vacuum drum in a vat of paper pulp to be dewatered results in the continuous formation of layer of pulp on its exterior surface, the layer being compressed by the shower roll at the nip between the vacuum roll and the shower roll. Concurrently, the shower roll discharges or exudes water onto and into the pulp layer at the nip.

A water nozzle supplies a stream of water to the resilient filter screen to remove particulate therefrom not previously removed by the vacuum cleaning device.     Abstract: A backwashable fluid filter formed with a filter element which is disposed so that it can be rotated about its axis inside the filter housing by a drive mechanism and through which a radial flow passes. A backwashing device is provided which includes a dirt removal channel which extends parallel to the axis of the filter element. When the filter element is backwashed, clean fluid flows back through the filter element, removes dirt particles adhering to the filter element and carries them into the dirt removal channel. In order to pre-clean the filter element, a resiliently mounted stripping device is arranged in front of the backwashing device to remove coarse dirt from the surface of the filter element before it reaches the backwashing device. The filter element is provided with slit-like openings, each of which has a substantially U-shaped configuration and defines a resilient tongue.

The filtered material penetrates openings (18) of the filter element (3) and flows into a central hollow space (17) thereof wherefrom it is carried off through a discharge opening (18). The impurities cannot pass the opening (16), gather on the outer periphery (15) of the filter element (3) and are carried by the stillstanding scraper element (20) towards an exit (24). Thereby a reliable construction is achieved which requires less effort (FIG. 1).

    Abstract: An anti rewet deck is provided for press rolls used to increase consistency of fibrous pulp slurry from approximately 4 percent up to about 30 to 50 percent. This is accomplished by biasing the location of the drainage holes in the roll shell to the forward edge of the drainage compartments within the roll shell. To avoid the necessity for handing of the rolls, a mechanism is provided for accomplishing the purposes of minimizing rewet at practical production rates by providing baffle plates which effectively orient the draining pattern in the desired direction. Such baffles can be permanently or removably installed once the desired handing of the rolls is determined.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing solids from the porous surface of a rotating vacuum drum. Such drums are used to separate the solid and liquid phases of a slurry, such as a calcium carbonate containing mud slurry. Doctor blades are often used to scrape the drum exterior surface of excess mud to minimize the build up of solids thereon. Nonetheless a cake eventually forms on the drum and clogs the porous surface and stops the vacuum action. The drum is stopped and the drum backwashed by water to dislodge the cake. According to this invention, a jet of water from a nozzle is substantially tangentially directed against the drum surface to thereby eliminate stopping the drum for cake dislodgement. The nozzle is located beneath and moves with a reciprocating secondary doctor blade, the secondary doctor blade being of a length less than the width of the drum. A stationary, main doctor blade spans the entire width of the drum.

Various disrupters are shown, including a rotating non-circular bar, a doctor blade, a foil, a fluid jet, a brush, and a triangular protuberance. A plurality of such disrupters are positioned in peripherally spaced relation to cause repeated disruption and reformation of a fiber mat to increase the throughflow and washing or thickening efficiency of the apparatus.

The method is characterized in that the operation phase of the filter cylinder is divided into five separate stages. In the first stage, when the cylinder descends on to the vessel, air and the initial filtrate are discharged from the filtrate components and the formation of the pulp web on the wire surface begins. In the second stage, filtrate is discharged with vacuum and the formation of the pulp web continues.

A blend pump receives the soiled solution with oxidizing agent to promote the flow of the soiled solution through the system and a more uniformed disposal of the oxidizing agent throughout the solution. A six stage filter section selectively removes particulate matter. A biologic stage promotes a sterile reclaimed solution and a solution accumulator accumulates and stores the solution. Repeated injections of oxidizing agents occur before filter stage sections and pumps. The reclaimed solution can be reused or discharged without penalty.
