  • Patent number: 6044980
Abstract: An apparatus for extracting liquids from a slurry formed of liquids and fibers, like diluted manure or paper mills residue. The apparatus has a rotatable drum covered with a resilient layer. The apparatus also has two draining rolls which are pressed against the drum so that the slurry passing in between is squeezed. Each roll has a hollow cylindrical shell with a uniform distribution of openings. Each roll also has a perforated filter screen fixed to is. The screen has perforations evenly distributed so that only some perforations lie over the openings in the shell. The perforations are smaller in size than the openings. The apparatus also has a pair of wipers in order to wipe the fibers out of the draining rolls and guide the liquids collected in the shells towards a liquids outlet. A reservoir can be mounted above the drum and upper draining roll for receiving the slurry, storing it to build-up a constant pressure, and supplying it in a continuous manner.

  • Patent number: 6004468
Abstract: An apparatus for processing a solid-liquid material comprises a housing formed with a series of interconnected chambers defined by chamber walls with at least two drums mounted in series within the chambers. Each chamber receives one of the at least two drums for rotatable movement therein. Each chamber and the associated drum are dimensioned to define a region therebetween to retain the solid-liquid material. In the self-cleaning liquid filter, a rotating hollow drum covered with a filter element is mounted in a filter housing and turned by a waste liquid that contains debris or dirt. Filtered or cleaned liquid enters into the hollow drum and is pumped away at one end of the drum while debris or dirt in the waste liquid are trapped on the filter. A spray nozzle is mounted inside the rotating drum and clean water is sprayed out to wash away the debris and dirt carried by the filter element into a debris collector equipped with a second filter. The debris and dirt are trapped by the second filter while a filtered, or clean liquid is drained back into the filter housing. The shower water forms a pond or film on the pulp mat. The amount of entrapped air is minimized through a downleg of a filter drum which results in maximum filtrate flow, an increased drainage rate, higher efficiency washing and a requirement for less shower water per pound of pulp. In addition, with less entrapped air in the filtrate, the length of the downleg can be reduced enabling lower building heights, smaller filtrate tanks and foam handling systems. The sealed shower system also forms part of a combined shower/hood structure that greatly reduces exhaust emissions.

The slurry to be separated is retainably placed within a container having one or more lift paddles secured within its inner cavity. As the container rotates, the lift paddles lift a portion of the retained slurry, allowing the liquid portion to fall back into the primary slurry pool to be separated, and lifting the solids toward the top of the rotation path of the paddles. The separated solids slide by gravity off of the lift paddles as they approach the top of their rotation paths and into a collection hopper and transport means that carry them away from the container. Abstract: The present invention relates to a gully emptier comprising a container which has connected thereto a water jet or vacuum/pressure pump for conveying slurry and in which a discharge pipe which is provided with a filter at a liftable and lowerable end is arranged upstream of the connection to the suction side of a low-pressure pump, wherein a float is connected to the filter. Thanks to the float which floats on the water surface, the filter is automatically held at a predetermined depth below the water surface even when the water level changes. A manual adjustment by the operating staff is no longer required. The distance of the filter from the water surface can be accurately adjusted by using a floodable or inflatable float.

Abstract: Filter apparatus for filtering contaminants from a fluid, such as machine tool coolant, are disclosed. One filter apparatus includes a filter drum unit having a generally cylindrical open perforated support sheet with a cylindrical screen element mounted thereabout. Circumference varying mechanisms, such as turnbuckles, are connected relative to the support plate to vary the circumference of the support plate and the tautness of the screen element. A disc filter assembly having a mandrel and fluidly attached annular disc filter elements is also described. Each annular disc filter element has an inner structure with concentric ribs forming concentric grooves therebetween which are connected to radially extending grooves. A screen element is supported by the ribs so that the microscreen will not tear while allowing filtering of fluid into the grooves which are in fluid communication with the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 5628912
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently separating solids from liquid/solid slurries are disclosed. The slurry to be separated is retainably placed within a container having one or more lift paddles secured within its inner cavity. The container is supported for rotation about an axis and has drive means for slowly rotating the container. The liquids returned to the primary retained slurry within the container assist in washing the slurry for facilitating solids separation without required increase in the retained slurry volume.
